I should have never invested all that money these past 9 months... Was it worth the risk? It feels like I've done a complete failure... I forget what the price is anymore... I wake up each morning, check the price and laugh at myself literally. Dam it hurts...

What is worse is knowing that I believe in bitcoin and the viability it can provide one day. Yet it seems like adoption will never catch on.

Every time bitcoin crashes, all I get is phone calls telling me "What's happening with Bitcoin?!?!". I am put down by my peers constantly, and it affects my mental health - especially since I spend 20-30 hours per week writing, speaking and evangelising bitcoin.

Seriously, something has to give. This thing either needs to be killed and go to zero - or - it has to succeed for the people like myself who have been "buying-the-dips" for the past 10 months, only to still be in the red after all this time. You think you've done well by buying a $700-dip from $1000, then it goes to $600. You think you've done well by buying a $600 dip from $700, then it goes to $450. You think you've done well by buying the dip at $450, then it goes to $330. At this current moment in time, bitcoin is 100% a Ponzi Scheme - with "early adopters" slowly bleeding new hopefuls of all of their money. I still believe in the idea of bitcoin as a tool to save humanity, and how desperately we as a human race need something like bitcoin to succeed and save us from rotten legacy systems, but this is just straight-up Ponzi territory now.

Where's the thanks for our shows of support? Is there really no big money out there that believes in this humanity-transforming technology? We spend a lot of our time (i.e. money), energy (i.e. money), and physical money supporting this bullshit, and all we get is red.

Condescending/patronizing "lucky-ones" who were in the right place/time a few years ago, please spare me your bullshit - you cannot empathize with the majority of people who joined this ecosystem in 2014 hoping to make a positive difference to the world.

[–]Bit_By_BitLong-term Holder [score hidden] 32 minutes ago

You're right about the social circle - that is the most painful and humiliating part.

With regards to "focus on other things" - I have a 7am-5pm job that earns me money which basically goes into Bitcoin and pays bills. To become a valuable member of this ecosystem if it ever moves on from being a Ponzi Scheme benefiting early adopters and criminals/frauds who hold BTC in the millions, I need to make a name for myself by writing, researching, preaching, spending thousands of dollars on flights and accommodation to attend and speak at conferences - else - when the time comes - I won't even get an interview at a start-up due to the intense competition with ex-Google and ex-McKinsey types who are in it for a get-rich-quick share of equity.

Its not easy, its not easy at all.

just lol at this mindset. even in the vanishingly unlikely scenario where bitcoin became the world currency it'd still be better to have an actual useful skillset which will get you a job where people pay you to work, but with bitcoin, rather than having made a name for yourself as a weirdo who's really intense about money for some reason

from skimming this it looks like his point is that when someone artificially increases the value of bitcoin and then it drops back down while he makes a profit and everyone else gets screwed we should not use the phrase "pump and dump" to describe this because it's mean and makes bitcoin look broken and easily manipulable or something

Please remember that Bitcoin is still a wild ride, regardless of how smooth the terrain can get. The price may indeed rise again! Remember that Bitcoin is, by design and nature, a long-term investment, and any short-term investment strategy has the potential of failing completely.

Do not bank on Bitcoin if you can not afford to ride the waves...high or low!

Be safe, be secure, and most importantly, be free.

How far is the price going to slide here, before it bounces back? (I'm assuming if you're on this reddit you do assume its going to rise longer term!)

I'm going to buy more Bitcoins and I'm going to do it as soon as the bank wire I sent on friday clears. I'm not going to try and buy in at whatever I think it might slide to, I'm just going to do it immediately.

So I'm more curious than anything else, how low does it go here?

Bitcoin Price is Record Low: The Best Time to Buy Bitcoins?

In the last week we have witnessed sell orders of more than 1000 bitcoins at a time pushing the Bitcoin price downwards. The Bitcoin price has fallen from a stable 590 USD per Bitcoin (August 10th) to now 450 USD per Bitcoin. There have been no recent negative news or happenings that could explain the big sell offs, and one might start to wonder. I’ve recently written a few theories of why the Bitcoin price has crumbled while Venzen wrote about BitFinex’ “shorting” function. The Bitcoin price has still been falling today with more than 50 USD per Bitcoin. Is this Tim Draper getting cold feet or some inside information circulating?

You may as well have said the tea leaves gave you a positive impression.

Yesterday $500 was looking really cheap. I bet the log charts certainly didn't see that cheap coin as a $100+ dollar loss today.

I tried to convince my boss to accept Bitcoin and it failed. Here is why.. (self.Bitcoin)

submitted 15 minutes ago by JeromeWhatElse

Hello, I work for a language school and we have students from all over the world. When I saw how much money banks were taxing us + the student for international transfer, I decided to explain my boss that bitcoin could solve this problem. I am nowhere near to be a bitcoin expert, I just bought a few two year ago. Basically, I ve made a bitpay account and managed to create a product. I wanted to demonstrate how easy it was so I created a product of 1€ and paid for it with my personal wallet..

My problems are: I sent 1€ and paid 1,04€. So 4% gone. The transaction took longer than 15 minutes to get confirmed. I had to send mail to bitpay support to ask for a refund and I got refunded 0.97€.

Our language courses can be up to 1000€ so I don't know what to do anymore after this epic fail...

TL;DR: tried to show the power of bitcoin to CEO. Paid with my bitcoin and nothing went as expected. What do?

i love these stories because it's clear that the evangelist has never actually gone through or practiced their "let me show you" pitch so they just parrot the talking points and then when it's time to actually prove their poo poo it all falls apart and they're surprised because they've never actually had to do real transactions before
