When I was in primary school ~20 years ago, we would play with a set of three stumps on a stand, a single stump ~10 yards away, a single bat, and a ball. There was one batsman, one bowler, everyone else (about 5-10 people) fielding. The bowler could bowl (which was almost always a throw) whenever they had the ball in their hand. The batsman could only be out caught or bowled. You scored a run by running around the single stump and back, and you had to run if you hit the ball. This obviously encouraged slogging like a champ. I don't think we ever bothered playing proper cricket until I was in secondary school. edit - Holy poo poo, I missed Jordan bowling an 11 ball over. goatface fucked around with this message at 16:07 on Aug 27, 2014 |

Ben Stokes has nearly got his thirty (the ODIest milestone), India are even worse than England

Stokes is a crap player who only gets picked because he wasn't completely poo poo in Australia last year.

He's not bowling well, he's not batting well. Give him a couple more years in county and see if he recovers from crippling himself.

I wondered why they decided to play Jimmy since he's bowled a huge amount but if they're at the point of playing Stokes AND Woakes then they probably need him... Woakes actually did well though, which is actually quite surprising... Who else do England have though? Broad is getting his nose fixed, I don't know how good Plunkett is in limited overs and he's probably still injured which probably limits you to that Gurney guy who played against Sri Lanka, or Finn who will most probably be worse than Stokes...

There's that young wicket keeper Foakes, perhaps they could teach him spin?

They really want to pick Finn but they're worried India's highly specialised spackerball wasters will give him an immediate twatting and it'll be try again next year son, SOS Brezza big tits.

This is in Norway, where, as you might have guessed, cricket is not widely practiced. The first time I got into cricket was down to a combination of being sick, free to air test matches on tv, and a couch. The first time I played cricket, was Kiwi Cricket at primary school, which is a cross between backyard cricket and 80's fairplay every-one-gets-a-go mentality. It's played with a yellow plastic bat, tennis ball(s), and 4 stumps - 3 for the wickets and one for the non-strikers end. Here are some basic rules, but feel free to adapt them to suit your kids.

I don't think I've ever played a full game of cricket. When we were at school, we'd just mess around at recess. One batsman, one bowler, everyone else fielding, no scoring. Everyone takes turns bowling for an over. You get the batsman out, you get to bat. When we got older, we just took it to the nets. It's the lazy-mans way of playing cricket. And in Australia, international cricket is on during the 3 month school holidays. So that's how I got into it as a kid - I'd often be at home and it would be too stinking hot to move, so I'd just watch cricket. It'll probably be a lot harder to get kids into it in Norway where they don't have a team to follow.

See if you can import a few Kanga Cricket sets. My best primary school memories were made around these hideous plastic lumps.

You have to beat my best of 9 wickets for 7 runs. That was admittedly close to the console release when career spin bowling was piss easy to the point where you could have an average of less than 5 without really trying...
