Newegg is offering $150 off $500 purchases when paying with bitcoin. most bitcoiners seem to think this is going to last forever and are talking about maxing out their credit cards to buy bitcoin to buy stuff to resell on ebay

I don't get it. Why offer a discount. They aren't keeping the bitcoin they're just accepting dollars through pitpay.

With no personal stake on betting bitcoin is going to skyrocket, the only thing I can think of, is they want a bunch of un-charge-backable purchases by people who have proven they don't think things through. Hopefully they buy a bunch of video cards and leave the not jacked-up items alone.

Even the butthavers are getting bored about the whole thing. The most discussed thread in reddit right now is them bickering about using "bits" instead of "bitcoins". (second place goes to the rainbow graph)

quote:

[–]Ilogy 17 points 12 hours ago

Just speaking for me, $100000 is much harder to read than $100,000. If an actual transaction were involved, with the former I would have to actually count the zeros before I felt satisfied, with the latter it is immediately obvious to me that that reads "one hundred thousand dollars".

Unfortunately, commas are only used (at least in English) to clarify large numbers, not really small numbers. So if the number is .0000001 I have to count the zeros. Now, if the number read .000,000,1 I could live with that. But it seems likely harder to change the rules of the English language than the standard denomination in Bitcoin.

Quite simply, if we get to a point where things like cups of coffee really do cost a few bits . . . then pricing like 0.000003 BTC is going to require that people get glasses just to not get ripped off.

[–]iwantathink 6 points 10 hours ago

About a year ago I started a thread on bitcointalk about this issue. I proposed post-decimal commas, but someone rightly pointed out that there could be too much ambiguity decimal point and decimal comma users. Then the discussion moved on to using post-decimal semi-colons (1.543;938;45), then finally someone suggested apostrophes: 1.543'938'45. I like the last one the best.

[–]BTCfish 1 point 14 minutes ago

something like this is pretty clever, and desperately needed, with the decimal point marking whole bitcoins, with various markers representing other denominations

All this bit poo poo is pathetic. People think it will help them pump bitcoin if we move a decimal place and appropriate another well-defined unit which already has a completely different meaning...

Toll Free Bitcoin - Proof of Concept - I need agents! (tollfreebitcoin.com)

submitted 1 day ago by kiisfm

[–]kiisfm[S] 1 point 1 day ago

I need agents! Right now when someone calls, they'll be forwarded to an agent. Both your number and theirs is private. I can't currently control when calls come in so you have to manually tell me when to add you or remove you.

Then I need people to call in needing help! I have many features for the future. Eg. For both agents and callers to call and take calls in their browser. i need programmers and donations for more twilio minutes!

I'd like to pass out cards, get grants, develop premium support for companies looking to outsource support using our best agents.

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.

so basically the bitcoin big names (jesuses) count amongst them, before their involvement with bitcoins:

1) a couple dudes who have judgements in multiple states on mortgage fraud (bruce wagner & partner)
2) mail fraud/wire fraud (bfl)
3) conviction for computer fraud (mtgox)
4) conviction shipping explosives through mail (roger ver)
5) literal pedophilia, then running a service that hacks mmo accounts and strips them for gold to sell for real money (brock)

libertarians, red flags

and then there's the flat out failures that have somehow parlayed serendipitous timing into actual financial success

then turned around and plowed that into big name bitcoiner status

and the all time winner place of honor for that is reserved for marc andreesen
