I run to Vegas to play blackjack until I break the bank at the Atomic Wrangler.. get an intelligence implant, then run to Novac (both ways making sure I get involved in as few fights as possible, and find as few landmarks as possible) and pick up a book in the Motel lobby. Then I'll have 10 INT and do whatever. Usually I head back to Vegas and start the Freeside quests though. And pick up Arcade Gannon.

Get the Stealth Boy from the school, hoof it past the quarry, get the waypoint for REPCONN HQ, and reach Freeside. Buy the Naughty Nightwear for +1 Luck, clean out the Wrangler, pass the credit check, and buy a Luck implant. Get banned from all the casinos in vegas, buy every implant but the regeneration one, and count my mad stacks of caps still left over.

For a proper "This is Courier Six in New Vegas going on a journey of self-discovery and fighting Ulysses and solving the fate of the Mojave Wasteland" roleplay, I finish all the Goodsprings starter quests first and then head off along the main quest. DLCs are done in the release order: hit Dead Money on the way to Vegas, Honest Hearts before working for any of the factions, Old World Blues when heading down south, and then straight into Lonesome Road since I'm in the area. It feels like the DLCs work better as a consistent storyline if you go through them in that order, or at least leave Lonesome Road for the finale.

Murder joe cobb and take his gun and armor and then murder his friends and take their guns and armor and explosives Continue murdering my way across the wasteland, taking people's guns, armor and explosives If I'm on a pacifist character I grab the stealthboy in the schoolhouse and beeline to Novac and recruit Boone

From talking about it with my wife, I think the best order is Dead Money or Old World Blues first, with Honest Hearts between them. DM and OWB are both long and dense, with a bunch of grueling combat, and it's exhausting to do one right after the other. Honest Hearts is a lot lighter (and prettier) and serves as a palate cleanser. Both DM and OWB give you rewards throughout the game as well, but DM's don't really kick in until you're done, while with OWB you can bring in half a ton of coffee mugs and cameras and start reading your rewards right away.

Completed Dead Money, all in all it was pretty amazing. This was my first time, and I didn't think it was really that brutal as usually made out to be, but I was going in with a lot of fore knowledge of what to expect. I was anticipating it to be a lot harder to get everyone out of there alive but the only hook was Dean it turned out and knowing how to handle him aside, the other companions were pretty intuitive (don't be a dick, basically). I missed some stuff going through it because I tried to rely as little on guides as possible but it never felt too hopeless, though I went in at 21. I wonder how well it would go at earlier levels. Light step was a must getting to/from the bell tower though, without that perk I probably would have burned out after awhile. I only took one bar of gold, mostly as a keepsake. I'm rich enough from getting kicked out of the Strip that I can afford to let go. Maybe I'll go repay Doc.

Light step was a must getting to/from the bell tower though, without that perk I probably would have burned out after awhile. I mentioned this several pages back, but the problems with Dead Money didn't really have much to do with difficulty for me. It was mostly that the Villa parts had a lot of little annoying problems that combined into one big mess. It was ugly to look at, easy to get lost in, and full of enemies that quickly got repetitive. The parts where your mostly outside working with Dean Domino were particularly annoying as they had me walking around in circles wishing he would just shut the gently caress up for two seconds as my health slowly whittled away, and oops guess you got to close to that radio, now your head is gone ![]() DM holds up better after the first playthrough I have to admit though. The characters are the most well written of all the DLCs (even better than most of the main game even) and once you know how to rush through the Villa as fast as possible you can get to the Casino parts which are much nicer than the Villa parts.

My only huge problem with DM was the constant "Air smells like copper, or old world gold" or other companion quotes that Dog/God/Dean spout off every couple of steps you take, which is the main reason why Christine is my favorite companion of the 4 by far.

Yep, it's just the Barter check where you point out that if you die, he dies. If he's referring to you as his partner, you're good. If you're his "ball and chain", you might want to try that dialogue again.

Domino is a complete control freak with delusions of grandeur who MUST be in command at all times (just think about the ...circumstances when you first talk to him). It's not hard to see how that Barter check might tip him off. This petty egomania is what makes him so vile in my eyes; there's never any greater purpose to the evil thing he does, never any ideals he defends in a twisted way, it's all just to prop up his broken sense of self-esteem.

Outside of one playthrough, I've always killed Domino just because I think he is such a vile character. Also, make sure to play with the blackmail holo fix. Always was confused by "Pretty as a picture." On the topic of DM characters, I was always a little disappointed that you could gain God's trust by not playing the tape, end the conversation, and then immediately bring out Dog and God just doesn't give a gently caress. Doesn't say a drat thing about it later on.

It's the only one that matters, and if you do it he will try to kill you know matter what. I was always confused why so many people said he constantly tried to kill them. Turns out it was because I almost never put any points in Barter.

IMO it is a bit unfair that the dialog option that pisses him off so badly is like the first one you have with him. He monologs a bit beforehand, I suppose, but you've barely met the guy, and there's no way to walk it back in later interactions with him (IIRC, I never take it.)

The opening Barter check doesn't necessarily make it clear that you're being adversarial, and there's no way to back out once you're in it. I certainly don't mind killing Dean but I think that check could have been done better.

It's the only skill check I can think of that has negative consequences, though I could really be wrong. I mean, negative in a relative sense, Dean is kind of a scum bag even if he likes you. I don't think he's the most vile character in the game though, but he is one of the better ones. Sinclair was kind of a nutjob too, to be fair. edit: And to be clear I don't mind that its in there, it fits his character perfectly. I guess if you must 100% everything in one run then yeah you might get pissed.

It comes across as the player being a bit of a tough guy rear end in a top hat, but Dean did just have you sit on a chair rigged to explode so it's not exactly unreasonable for a person to say something like that. It's definitely a bit unfair that there is no way to reconcile the situation after that. Berke Negri posted:I mean, negative in a relative sense, Dean is kind of a scum bag even if he likes you. I said this earlier in the thread, but it's funny that so many of the same people who hate Dean Domino think House is the best answer to the Mojave situation. When they both have basically the same personality.

Honestly, if I were in the Courier's position (and I could back up my bullshit) I would have probably said that same thing to Dean. The guy's a sleaze whose first interaction with you is forcing you to sit on a live bomb purely so he can put himself in a position of power over you. From that moment forward, I've decided that he's an untrustworthy sociopath who's best kept at arm's length and told (even if harshly) that he is not, in fact, the boss.
