Someone should really find a better nomenclature replacement for social justice warrior though. It's a pretty poo poo term that means nothing and everything while tying the user to one extreme or the other in it's use. Most of it is a review of what looks like both a weird and fun game though. From the SJWs doxxing random Gamergate supporters (They even sent death threats to one female Youtuber  ) to the Gamegaters whining about CORRUPTION,  I've gotten really tired of "video game culture" I play games because they're fun. That's why I got into video games. However, gamers seem to be getting insufferable in the last few years. I don't know if it's because of the Nintendo Wii and gamers crying buckets over  Muh hobby is becoming mainstream or I'm finding out the unpleasant truth that people are insufferable in general, but I'm fed up.Which brings me to Zoe Quinn. First off, if a man cheated on his girlfriend for gaming reviews, the reaction would not have been as big as this. This already added fuel to the misogynists' fire. They already had Anita as their punching bag, (that awful beat up Anita game. Wow.) now another woman entered the fray. There have been legitimate criticisms of both women, but they've been drowned out by the vocal minority. I don't agree with both Zoe and Anita on some things. But I respect them for not giving up and letting their voice be heard.

The online access together with the voice chat and the abundance of young men without any real oversight, also helped to create this atmosphere were personal attacks are a perfectly valid form of discussion.

I think there's some merit with the beef they have with the enthusiast press since a lot of them seem to talk down to their audience when they should be representing their interests. Obviously they're as varied as the gamers themselves and not all of them do that but when you have some blatant examples of dumb/bad stuff going on with the press then having no one really wanting to upset the status quo and take a stance against it because they don't want to confront or upset industry friends or cohorts, so you can understand some people will get frustrated. The whole argument is nothing more than an internet 24 hour news cycle pandering to both sides of the argument to get clicks and views. I'm not saying the discussion isn't important, its just a not a new one, I've been reading about the depiction of women in games as far back as the days of the PS1 (and I'm sure it's older than that). The only difference is we have these giant social media playgrounds now to argue in. If you want to change the depiction and roles of women in video games then you do it with your wallet, if the way females are shown in a game bothers you enough not to buy it like my example would be Dragon's Crown (I heard it was a good game but I'd be embarrassed to play it around other people) then you don't buy the game and you let the developers/publishers know exactly why. They are businesses before artists after all, if they are told clearly why people aren't buying their games then things will start to change. I don't blame the games industry for not immediately changing either, until recently women were considered a distant secondary audience for games and I understand why the people who make the decisions are nervous about changing because they could be betting their livelihoods and many peoples jobs on shifting the demographic they focus on. All it takes is a big game to flop to kill a studio after all. It's a shame that this idea gets washed away between the two extremes on either side. While I have no problem with Anita Sarkeesian she is too easy of a target for the opposition to attack, between those clips of her from a few years back saying she doesn't play games and stealing clips from lets plays and someones art for her banner. It's easy to make argument that she doesn't care about games or the industry. Then you have the other side who immediately invalidate any discussion by giving death threats and bomb warnings. As long as the discussion stays this public and this angry then nothing will get accomplished.

I think I can reach a compromise that'll make everyone happy in that situation! "Gamer" will be removed from the industry forever if "journalist" is removed as well. As far as I can see the people who flaunt each of those are usually part of the worst aspects of each side of the debate. There, everyone's happy. Glorified opinion makers are can be called as such instead of claiming to be journalists and misogynistic creeps who use "industry corruption" as a platform to attack women in the industry won't call themselves gamers. Everyone who doesn't care or is a moderate in the whole thing will rejoice and move on with their lives. Thank you thank you. I saved the industry.
