After the tragic passing of Adwen, Ser Arrouse will now be looking for a new wife. Three possibilities spring to mind. Lady Ellen, regent of Salisbury 1000 Glory, special skill Stewardship, no manors She's in a vulnerable position with her husband dead and the heir being so young. If Arrouse swears an oath not to claim the Earldom from her, that marriage would secure her position from internal challenge and having to make a dangerous alliance marriage while also cementing the position of the privy council (ie the party). It could be potentially beneficial for both sides. Lady Gwendolyn, daughter of the 500 Glory, special skill Siege, two manors King Cedric should be pleased to further cement his Totally British status by having his daughter marry a well-renown British knight. This would also tie our regions closer together and might finally get him off our backs about tribute. However, this entanglement might get us dragged into his wars. (If he has an actual daughter substitute her name.) Lady Elaine of Cornwall, daughter of Important Cornwall Guy 700 Glory, special skill Chiurgery, one manor This would form a duality along with one of them marrying Jenna (the Earl's daughter) to cement an alliance between the two regions so we could band together against the Saxons. Just some suggestions based on the player's handbook and what we were doing.

Sorry Its been a little quiet here, but I've had a busy few weeks. Then last night we were left with too few players for Only War. So we decided on one last job instead. This is a game where you play as a group of over the hill action heroes brought back for one last job. The twist is that there is no character generation - everything is created on the fly via insults and anecdotes. One Last Job - Last Salvation Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

Yeah, this is more a case of "any end is better than no end" OW Didn't really gel for me - the theme is low powered grunts trying to stay alive in a hellish environment where supermen wander the battlefield - the actual power level quickly turns the players into supermen themselves, while thematically having them confinded by a power structure. Maybe I'm just better at "open world" games where the players are free agents, or maybe its just the fact that after two years of playing 40K I need a break. but this game always felt a little forced. Me lining up some baddied for you guys to take a shot at. While there will be something of this in Shadowrun, I'm sure that after a few runs you lot will have your own missions and aims that I can't predict. For Only War, there are certain things I think would help the game - some from me, some from the game. 1) A massive restriction on gear - after a few sessions, most players had good armour and amazing weapons - there should never be a part of the game where a enemy guardsman cannot hurt a PC, while the PC can mow down entire squads in a turn. 2) Ogyrns/techpriests need less tank. - Having to bring heavy weapons to hurt certain team members means that the less tanky ones can get squashed (This is a general 40K thing I know) 3) I gave out to many FP's - this is probably an overreaction to not giving any out last game, and a tough start to the game here. 4) More Xenos - I was running a chaos based game, which unfortunately means either squishy cultists or Chaos Space Marines/Demons. There was not much in the middle ground. At least I know where Shadowrun is broken.

I agree with you Grey. In theory it could be a fun game... low power setting where you and a bunch of other grunts face the enemies of the Imperium and through luck, will, and LOTS of firepower, you win in the end. But that's certainly with a LOT of bodies along the way, so one shouldn't get too connected to your individual character. But..... the ways the rules work, you control an elite squad, one that's one of the best and it only goes up from there. The amount of support specialists probably should be reduced dramatically (especially the really strong ones). Tech-priests, Ogryns, hell... Ratlings. All of these are really strong just out of the box. What I think might work better is if the players ran the regiment as a whole... and when it came to combat, they played as the grunts, maybe a few specialists dedicated to that mission at the time. FPs were kinda given a bit too frequently.... I understand why you did it, pretty much after we had encounters that pretty much murdered people. We earned the first one at the baneblade takedown. But I kinda felt like the second one was due to some of us being murdered by the really tough combats on the ice planet.

The other problem with OW is the Aptitude system. It lets you ramp up in power ridiculously quickly. Combine it with the 2500 Class Switch ability to swap into something to get access to stuff you didn't already take, and it can kinda homogenize PCs and make them ridiculous.

Hmm. Do you guys feel that in general OW and RT can generate overpowered player characters too quickly? Is it too easy to acquire the best gear in both systems?
