In the Muirverse, Star Wars quotes make women smile seductively, possibly even turn them on. This is not true in the real world, in my experience, but it is clearly how Muir imagines his ideal world would work. Also, for a grizzled outdoorsy 70-something, Zed's dad sure acts like a nerd from a younger generation. Wonder why that is. It's almost like Muir is incapable of forming distinct characters. Ethnical and religious tensions played its part in Russian Revolution and the sudden willingness to send hundreds of thousands of jews and muslims to die for Tsar and Country in WWI after a good century of treating non-Orthodox people like poo poo was not met with much celebration. It is as if the desegregation is instrumental in disarming the ethnical tensions in the army and the modernisation in general.

Hey I just got back from Istanbul, where I found these things in a coffeeshop that look like they might be political cartoons (at least the Erdogan shirt seems like it must be a dead giveaway). Can anyone provide any insight? Google Translate is really not cutting it here.  They seem to be Turkish sort of alt-humor magazines (a la Mad perhaps?) but I'm not totally sure.
