the price has gotten low enough that people are starting to liquidate and get out - which makes the price fall even lower and sets off a spiral. its a classic run-for-the-exits panic

even if you can't get cash it might be quicker to buy electronics from newegg or dell and then ebay those, assuming your transaction doesn't get mysteriously killed by bitpay

coinbase does a 1week hold on unauthenticated accounts, you need a CC # to authenticate. so you place a buy order at whatever market price is and then a week later you get the coins. why anyone would do that is beyond me

Newsflash! Miners are hosed (duh! and in denial)

a miners opinion (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 5 hours ago * by mpluss

Hi all, just want to share my opinion as a relative small miner. I maintain a hashrate with 18,5 TH/s. thats maybe more than the usual homeminer, but nothing compared to the bigger mine's out there.

First of all, i do not and have never sold my income in bitcoin as maybe much of the bigger miners do. i only do cash out what i need to pay hosting costs. the rest i spare for when bitcoin become much more matured and maybe much more worth each.

i do also think that most of the miners out there do it the same way, but maybe some comments will enlight us how you out there are managing your mining operation.

i have monthly expenses of $1300 for hosting and electricity. with a current difficulty at 34661425923 and bitcoin at $300 i get bitcoin per day worth aproximately $ 80.

i can say that bitcoin can go as low as $ 170 not calculating the difficulty go higher to recoup my monthly expenses. If it gets lower i have to power down my miners. not talking about the initial investment for buying those machines.

Looking in the past it would be wiser to sell all the coins immediately instead of hodling, but i think i have learned something about myself. i do not mine for the short profit instead i always believed in the future of our beloved decentralised technology.

Then a shitload of people reply that he's losing money because he's not taking into account hardware (and labor) costs.

mining and reinvesting is a repeating circle. if i have to calculate the fiat money i invested i would really loose every single day. but because i do only calculate BTC which i ve earned before this is a factor i do not count. thanks god. :-)

i still think its hillarious that at least one dude thought the best way to get his mt gox money back was to fly out to japan and get a hotel in tokyo for an extended amount of time, just so he could protest in front of the building. he might as well have dumped all of the money he spent on that into a fire.
