Yes. People use it as a sort of bonus harassment tool sometimes, as you can see.

For examples, see Charlie Crist and Chris Christie and how the GOP turned on them for meeting with Obama. Christie got away with it in Jersey because Jersey tilts blue for Prez elections, but Crist lost in the GOP Senate primary that year to Rubio.
And now Crist is running for Florida Governor as a Democrat, and he's (hopefully/probably) going to squeak out a super tight win in Florida.

Funny how things work out.

Semi-related, a flier (I think that's what it is) from Florida, from the 2014 elections thread:
Given that I could easily see Ramirez/Branco/Hope'n'Change making a Cartoon that's literally this but animated (there's even a caption for them!:downs:) I thought it was appropriate.

Also, "Chameleon" isn't exactly an insult if you like what Crist's new positions are.:v:

Yeah, the vote split between him (as an Independent) and Meek. Had he ran as a Dem that year it would have been Senator Crist, but it was Meek's turn. And we would have missed out on Senator Agua Bottle.

Normally it's something that people get called, rather than call themselves. The only people I can think of who would self-appoint as an elitist are the Dark Enlightenment neocameralist bloggers, who believe in a return to pre-enlightenment feudalism and that they wouldn't be stuck as a serf if one were to come about.

Worse. An-caps and right-libertarians at least either believe or hold up the veneer of believing that they want to move society in the direction of more liberty, even if they do so in ways that would eventually just collapse to a type of feudalism.

Neocameralists and neoreactionaries drop all pretense of that completely. http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Neoreactionary_movement

Depends on how elite you appoint yourself to be. Personally I never appoint myself anything less than maximum-dumb-and-goddamn-crazy-ivory-tower-dragon-king, but that's just because I'm such a self-hating realty obliviator.

Ordinarily, though, you do need to take it up with someone on the lieberal-elite-clowns list, at the very least.

Nuclear war was loving terrifying to people in the 50's and 60's, just because it was so new and the memory of WW2 was fresh in everyone's mind. On the bright side, we got a ton of great post-apocalyptic fiction! Z is for Zachariah, A Boy and His Dog, etc.
