They pulled the trigger on Seth. He is the top heel on the company right now.

Iunno, maybe it's just because I was watching on-and-off, but it felt like the top heels were HHH and Stephanie and here is their wrestling proxy, Seth Rollins.

He definitely just kind of fell into the position of "top heel" rather than launching above others and being hated a hell of a lot more. Brock & HHH are both a step higher - but they're not around.

They've protected Rollins quite a bit - though I also feel like not to the extent they would have gone to protect Orton when he was becoming a top heel.

Zack Ryder hit his ceiling the very moment Punk invited him into the ring to celebrate winning the US title and he had nothing new to say.

I always wondered about that. He came off as being really unready for that spot. The point of the promo with Punk and Bryan was to show off the 'new guard', and he just smiled and waved while Punk gave him a red carpet.

I wonder if Vince and/or HHH watched him, and just decided it wasn't a fit.

I enjoyed the Daniel Wyatt stuff as that could have been a interesting storyline. But they killed that off early because Daniel Bryan was over as gently caress as a face.

Something about that storyline felt so 80s - and I mean that in a good way.

It's odd, though - if Bryan had been the brainwashed drone who destroyed people with submission moves for months, people would buy him as a killer, but he'd lose more sympathy the longer he went without attacking Bray in retribution.

Vince referred to all millennials as useless lazy scumbags (in his own way), so no, not directly, but Bryan's part of that group, so expect him to be buried.

Either way, failing to do anything with a moment like that is a big reason Ryder isn't a "guy" right now. Ryder managed to get some popularity and get noticed all on his own. He was given some chances because of this and did NOTHING with them.

Bugs me when Ryder gets brought up with the names of the legit top-level talents that WWE completely wasted because he is not even close.

GOAT
From as best we can tell, Bryan has the attitude of "he'll take what comes to him" good or bad, which is a fine attitude to have when the company books you like poo poo. He'd be fine working the opening match forever, as long as he got the opportunity to have a good match.

Of course, he'll take the top spot if it's given to him. But he won't go out of his way, step on people, or break down the door to reach for it.

In a way, he's kind of exactly what Vince wants.

But Vince also wants you to reach for it.

It's hard to really judge because there's no consistency in the way things are handled.

If there was heat backstage on that segment, it would've been on Ryder for saying something he shouldn't have, rather than on Punk for starting it. That's just how WWE is.

Everything about the situation is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Basically, WWE is creating this situation where nobody wants to speak up so that when their wishes get criticized, they can blame it on the talent. They're actively driving people to be passive so that they can use that passivity to deflect criticism for their poor decisions.

They didn't want Ryder at the top so they were either going to bury him for reaching for the brass ring or bury him as being unmotivated if he didn't. There were two straws and they were equally short. There's nothing he was going to be able to do.

'Millennials' is shorthand for 'people younger than me that aren't exactly what I want' with a dash of 'can't deal with the situation other people have put them in and yet are blamed for all of it' so yeah it's a perfect thing to call them

I'm completely willing to believe Punk's story that he was set to be the Slim Jim guy and they were enthusiastically prepared for basically another Macho Man-esque run, and then WWE told them to use Big Show/Eve/Mysterio instead. To which Slim Jim then probably made some minor ad and moved on.

Check out TLC 2012, Shield vs. Ryback and Team Hell No which was just a pin or submissions like match with crazy TLC spots for an ideal of what will happened with Bray vs. Ambrose.

I thought Vince's logic behind calling Brock Lesnar a "special attraction" was pretty sound - but if it should apply to anyone else, it should apply to Bray Wyatt. I don't think giving a promo every week helps him at all. Who knows, maybe there are a lot of kids who love seeing it.
