Ask me about being the best dad ever.

Last time, we bumped heads with the Emaan and Plants, meaning our group now has pretty much the entire world out to get us.
The Nirvash is deploying as an event this mission:
  • Rand, Rag, Dyke (Galapagos)
  • Gainer, Gain, Adette (Rushrod)
  • Baldios, Hilda, Roybea
  • Getter, Tekkouki, Michiru
  • Aquarion, Riea, Matthew
  • Garrod, Jamil, Witz
  • Kei, Maai, Holland
  • Jiron, Sara (Dobeck), Burume (Government)

Got another big prologue here, so let’s get on with it.

Location: North Ameria – New Earth Federation HQ – Sage Council

Seems like the Chiram have refused Jamitov’s offer/command to work together with the Feds to fix space-time – most likely because they assume their Project D will allow them to do so by themselves.
Should they succeed, that puts the Chiram in the drivers' seat for the new world order and Jamitov’s annoyed that their ambitions are the same as they were prior to the Break the World. They’re all aware of the fact that, while the Chiram were jumped to this world 20 years ahead of almost everyone, they were originally a nation part of the SEED world’s Earth Alliance (with an antagonistic record against the Atlantic Federation).
That 20-year head start has given them significant time to perfect their space-time research in comparison to this group and Djibril is quick to jump at Jamitov for his unsuccessful negotiation – the Chiram may try to use their Project D as a way to strong-arm the Federation into obedience.

Jamitov tells him to calm down, though, as it’s not like the Chiram have completed their control system for space-time just yet and, furthermore, it’s not certain it’ll work even when it’s done. Coda has been briefed by Dewey that, with the Singularity turning its back on Emaan, both them and the Chiram have been searching for it nonstop.
Braya wonders if they should also try to capture it as an insurance policy but Djibril thinks the Chiram and Emaanians could gain the upper hand if the Federation pulls their punches in a bid to seize the Singularity – so, they should just destroy the thing and eliminate that variable altogether.
Jamitov is considering that idea, figuring no one person, without a view of the “big picture”, ought to be allowed to remake the world by himself: the duty of deciding the path the world’ll take falls on this Sage Council.

Coda calls the cause of the upcoming dimensional collapse the “Limit of Questions” and says they must prevent it from happening, no matter the cost.
That’s exactly why they reinstated Dewey and Djibril asks what the Ageha Squad is doing as, from what he’s heard, the Singularity is traveling with the Gekkostate – best to just have them arrest the Gekkostate and deal with the Singularity.
Coda raises the point that dealing with the Gekkostate isn’t the sole purpose of the Ageha Squad but Jamitov says they can’t ignore the Singularity’s continued existence: he says Dewey will have to deal with his squad’s objectives while also capturing Kei (or, if that’s not possible, kill him outright).

Coda agrees to relay those orders to Dewey and, when Kuzemi asks, Jamitov says our people have fled to South Ameria in a bid to escape the Emaanians - Djibril smirks at us taking refuge in a lawless land, like rats.. Jamitov is annoyed at those bothersome, uncooperative Chiram and, considering South Ameria is their homeland, Djibril figures this is a good opportunity to send a certain mech over and kill two birds with one stone.

Edel protests, saying there’s nothing to be gained by invading the Chiram right now. It’s her understanding that they should work together, unify their plans and figure out the best way to stop the world’s destruction.
Jamitov tells her that the Singularity or the Ageha Squad have already been determined as the way to make that happen and, as such, he wants to focus on what comes afterwards. Edel tries to remind them of what’s at stake and wants to give this more thought but Jamitov quickly tells her to be silent.
Kuzemi and Coda agree with him, saying this council ALONE exists to oversee the world and they, while appreciative of her work with the UN, tell Edel to mind her place.

As she acquiesces, Djibril, inwardly, sneers that these old men, all backed by Logos, are mere ornaments and they’ll realize it soon enough.
Jamitov’s certain that the world will survive and it is their duty to guide it and the populace in the proper direction - they will not hand it over to the likes of Durandal.
Edel’s very dejected, thinking that these people, so focused on immediate gains, are unable to take the future into consideration and may well plunge the entire world in darkness…

We find our people, having just lost some Chiram pursuers. Shaia can’t help but sigh at our situation, on the run from the Feds yesterday, the Chiram today…it may even be Zaft coming after us tomorrow.
Elchi tells her not to jinx us, especially after the trouble it took to cross the Pacific Ocean, but Jamil says the good news is that South Ameria is a pretty rugged place, and should allow us to rest a bit if we can keep out of sight.
Elchi understands that but asks if we’re gonna have to keep living this life of hiding forever. Jamil doesn’t answer but Holland cuts in, telling her to either shush or run off a die by herself.

She, obviously, isn’t about to take his lip sitting down and it falls on Cotsett and Hap to remind them that this isn’t the time to fight amongst ourselves - the situation has everyone on edge.
Either way, Ken-goh says we need to repair our ships and the Freeden’s Sara detects a huge cave some 30 kilometers from our current position – should be a good enough place for us to hide for a while. When asked, Holland snarls that we don’t need to confirm everything with him and we’re off to the underground.

Location: Eastern South Ameria – Hacienda, Dig Site
Going by this map, it seems to be around the Brazilian northeastern region…the state of Maranhão by the looks of it.
We don’t speak Spanish down here, Japan! :argh:

Gidget quickly sees that this cave seems to be from the Gekkostates’s own world, with plenty of Scub Coral around the place.
Jobs confirms, figuring this place is probably a dig site for LFOs and Bello is quite surprised at the idea of those being just buried around here. Jobs corrects himself, saying it’s more like the “skeleton” of an LFO, Archetypes, which you can find them buried deep within the Scub.
They’re turned into the LFOs we use by taking the Archetypes and embedding them with the tech that allows people to pilot them – Woz adds that Eureka’s Nirvash was the very first Archetype to undergo that process (thus, the name of “Type Zero”).

Speaking of Eureka, she pulls Renton aside and asks if the Nirvash is feeling well. He’s not really sure how to answer and, on that matter, remembers that he wanted to ask her something: it seems like she hasn’t been deploying over the past few days and, in fact, it’s like she’s avoiding the Nirvash.
Eureka seems sad and Renton asks if she’s sick but she isn’t sure, either.

: Hey…if you’d like, I could pilot the Nirvash.
: Remember? I managed to fight with it back in Zonder Epta…
: …
: I was really surprised that I did that good by myself, ya know? But I pulled it off… Maybe I’ve a natural gift for it?
: Nah, that can’t be it!
: …
: Hey…maybe I’m just a good match to the Nirvash.
: Or, maybe, the Nirvash is just saying that he likes me better!

:cripes:

: …!
: …Yes…that might be it…
: Huh…?
: I'm useless right now... So, the Nirvash chose you instead…
: H-hold on! I was just kidding—
: But that would be for the best! That’s what that child wants, too!
: Eureka…
: I’ll go tell Holland… So, please, take care of it…

*Eureka walks off.*

: What…
: (I…I thought it was the Nirvash that was bothering her…but...)
: (She doesn’t understand me at all. My piloting the Nirvash at Zonder Epta…it was all for her…!)

Holland is nearby, asking Mischa if she’s seen Eureka and, while she hasn’t, she figures there’s something in this dig site that’s stressing the girl out. Holland wonders if it’s the Scub’s influence but Mischa also suspects the Nirvash – both could well be the cause.
That said, this might be the first time in her entire life that Eureka has willingly distanced herself from the Nirvash. Holland is deep in thought and Mischa asks if he’s ever wondered why the LFOs are humanoid.
Indeed, he always thinks about that while he’s Lifting and says that, maybe, Adroc could’ve answered that question…

Elsewhere in the cave, some people have different things in mind: like Jiron, busily digging around with Fatman.
When Apollo asks, Rand tell him about the LFO Archetypes that might be buried here so he and the Breakers figured, if we can find one, we can sell it for some big bucks. Ryouma doesn’t think we need to worry so much about our financial situation, seeing how Shaia and Mimsy took care of the issue before that mess in Emaan (by paying for our expenses out of their own pockets).
Still, that doesn’t mean Jiron is going to stop, especially with how his father was a blue stone miner – so long as there’s treasure underground, he wants to dig it up. That said, Sirius doesn’t think we’ll just find something so valuable that easily but Burume reminds him that his own Aquarion is an excavated mech.

Sirius can’t think of a comeback and Apollo, figuring they’re right, decides to also start digging some holes. he even asks Hayato to bring the Liger over to help speed things along but, sadly, he refuses (Getter isn’t construction equipment).
In that case, Rand wants to use the Gunleon and our Walker Machines but, once again, Hayato vetoes it lest he wants to incur the wrath of the leader – Ryouma says he’s not that uptight but Hayato was actually talking about Holland. Benkei agrees, saying the guy’s been looking pissed off ever since we left Japan but Hayato thinks he started acting like that after our run-in with the Coralian.

Jiron figures it’s best not to pry but, just to avoid inviting any sort of trouble, we’ll continue just with the pickaxes. Garrod has been thinking, though, and remembers how our own GX is also an excavated model – same as the Inglessa mechs.
It’s the same for King Gainer and the other Overmen, having been produced by some ancient civilization before the Cataclysm laid waste to their original world.

As luck would have it, the Gunleon is ALSO an excavated unit – dug up by Mel’s father and remodeled as a repair mech.
Ryouma finds it odd that Rand’s world has so many things buried and Gainer says they were likely products of the time of the Cataclysm – Gainer doesn’t know the details but Jiron remembers Arthur Rank speaking of that era, calling it Black History.
When Apollo asks, Jiron says Arthur is the former leader of the Innocents: a true sage, who taught much to Jiron and co. way back when. Garrod also remembers what Rena said once she joined us, her vision involving both the “butterfly’s wings and the dark history”, but we don’t really know what it all means.

Apollo suggests that we don’t think too much about it as, like Fudou, he never has any idea of what she’s talking about.
Nearby, Kei thinks we won’t be able to stay here for long and Jabby asks why, seeing how even the Feds and Chiram shouldn’t be able to find us in here that easily, but Kei reminds him that the Chiram have a sensor that detects Singularities – it’s likely they can find him no matter where he tries to hide.

Marin steps up right then, having seemingly heard it all, and Kei wonders if he wants to kick him out. Actually, no, his business here is with “the monster”, Jabby, who calls Marin mean.
He remembers hearing that Jabby can sense dimensional warps, so he’d like to ask what he thought about that Coralian thing from before – he asks because Baldios’ subspace sensor detected space-time being distorted around the thing. That, plus the warp that hit us when we were near it, makes him want to know what Jabby thinks.
Speaking frankly, Jabby admits that he’s quite scared of that Coralian and thinks that it could well be a gateway to another world or another dimension. As Marin thought, that cloud-thing’s very presence was causing the dimensional walls to decay and he can’t even guess what would happen if many of them, or a bigger one, were to show up.

Kei wonders if that Coralian could have something to do with the upcoming dimensional collapse of the world but Marin isn’t sure.
Back to the topic at hand, Jabby can’t quite explain what it was that scared him – there was something on the other side of those clouds that caused him to be filled him with dread. He doesn’t know what it is or why it scared him and Kei wonders if something that scared Jabby so would, then, be an enemy…

Eureka, Tifa and Rena are together in the Gekko’s living room and both girls feel that Eureka’s afraid of something.
Eureka’s surprised that they can tell but Tifa says it’s because they’re alike and Eureka asks for them to tell what she should do: both girls say she needs to accept that she’s changing. Change isn’t meant to be scary as people may lose something but they gain something in return.
Rena says this is something everything experiences, as an child changing into an adult, a caterpillar changing into a butterfly. Eureka worries, unfamiliar with what she’s become, and Tifa asks her to calm down as her unrest is also affecting her kids.

Indeed, Linck and Maeter are worried that she’s sick and Maurice quickly takes them outside.
As they leave, Tifa and Rena tells Eureka of her options: either she accepts the changes happening to her or she doesn’t. However, while refusing to change might mean that nothing’ll happen, it’ll also mean her slow obliteration in stasis.
That said, she needn’t face this alone and Tifa says we’ll all help her find her answer.
Sadly, this whole situation scares Eureka and she runs off.

Huh. Linking the Limit of Questions (is that what it's called? I seem to recall it had a spiffier name in the subs I watched) to the dimensional collapse would actually go a long way to explaining some of the more :moreevil: actions of Djibril and the Titans.

Aye, I really like how believable Renton is. Hell, I think E7 is my favorite series in Z (tied real close to Aquarion and Big O).

Subs went with Limit of Life but Questions was the official translation, so that's what I went with.

Djibril and the Titans don't really seem all that interested in doing anything about it, though, seeing how their main options to stop the Limit of Questions from causing a new collapse are either use a Singularity (which they have no idea how to use and would rather kill) or let Dewey do whatever he wants.

Their priority is still clearly to just annex/genocide everything and hope it all gets sorted out.

And then we have Edel caught in the middle, bashing her head against the wall just to, maybe, get them to be a bit less moronic.

Fun(?) fact: Djibril is Arabic. Not the person, but the name. In fact, it's the Arabic version of the name of the Archangel Gabriel.

Athrun's name is Arabic too. It's the Arabic rendering of a Greek word that means "red" which is a little on-the-nose for a Char clone.

I thought Athrun was just a SEEDized romanization of Aslan. :v:
Ancient jokes aside, I don't think the Titans or Djibril actually care about anything beyond power.

Mission 30 (Rand Route) – Acperience

The klaxons start blaring and Gidget quickly detects the incoming Chiram – they found us even faster than expected. Everyone deploys, with Oliver quite pissed that these stubborn folk won’t even give us a moment’s rest.
Kei knows that he’s the cause of this but Marin assures him that, nevertheless, no one here is going to kick him out. He and Jamil explain they were well aware of the Chiram’s Singularity sensors and Adette tells him not to worry as, just as we travel together, we also help each other out.
Apollo adds that none of us are rotten enough to think of kicking a friend to the curb and Mimsy says that, just as Kei said the Glomar is his home, everyone else sees him as a companion. Kei asks if she’s alright and, after apologizing, Mimsy says she can’t keep crying forever (inwardly, she asks Sley to watch over them).
Rand suggests Kei just take what he gets and, indeed, he’ll count on us - right on time, too, because Hap says the Chiram’s “Outcast”-hunting posse has arrived.

Talho’s quickly annoyed at how many mooks they sent down into this cramped cave but there’s a bigger concern: Ken-goh detects the hangar hatch opening and Eureka comes right out. She apologizes to her kids at how strange she’s become and figures everyone’ll end up hating her, just like the Nirvash.
Holland gets in touch and asks if she’ll be fighting and, when Renton tries calling out to her from the Gekko, Moondoggie asks why he’s not aboard the Nirvash. Seems like Eureka launched on her own and, ignoring everyone else, she asks why she had to end up like this.
Flying deep into the cave, Eureka wishes she had never changed if this was going to be the end result.

As she leaves, Holland immediately tries setting off after her but Talho reminds that the enemy’s right in front.
Maeter and Linck are in tears at the thought of her “mama” leaving them behind but Renton tells them to sit tight and promises to bring her back. Yes, there are enemies around but he'll find a way to get to her.
With no choice, Jamil tells everyone to intercept and hold the Chiram at bay until Eureka comes back. Holland’s fuming at being unable to do anything and, moving towards where Eureka ran to, Renton wonders what’s happening to her.

Mission Objective: All enemies shot down
Mission Failure: Any allied battleship shot down
Skill Point: Clear the map within 6 turns

Alright. Have a sit-down and listen because if you want to get both the Skill Point and the upcoming secret, you’ll need some prior planning.
As you can see from the time limit, we’re bound to have more enemies come in and, with this huge battleground to contend with, you NEED to move your people with that in mind or you won’t make it in six turns.
Going by the above picture’s compass, the reinforcements will arrive spread out across the entire northern edge of the map, so what I suggest is: send your people straight up on the first turn to deal with whatever gets close and then already start inching north as you want your people to be attacking the reinforcements in, at most, one turn after they arrive.
More so than usual, everyone needs Accelerate/Boost or they’ll be severely handicapped and post-movement TRI attacks are at a premium.

So, everyone dashes eastward and we brace for impact.

Enemy Phase!

Here they come.

Squeeze in as much damage as possible.

Kei will probably be our MVP for this one…

The Chiram battleship and it’s Nikick escorts are standing by.

Player Phase!

Apollo keeps moving on, trashing one of Jiron’s targets.

Rand’s one of our slower squads, so he’ll focus on what gets left behind as our speedier units dash ahead.

That’s one mook dead, two very injured.

Moving up, Marin misses an 85% shot (:argh:) but, at least, Roybea strikes a nice hit; Kei joins Apollo and tears through a leading Ishkick.

Gain will also be very useful.

No kills but it’s pretty close.

Talho and Sara dispatch the survivors of Rand’s target while Jamil makes up for Marin’s miss.

Well, everyone could use some cheap morale and it’s right on Ryouma’s path.

Tekkouki learns Spirit after those two kills.

Finally, Jiron joins up with Gain and deal some nice damage to this TRI-formatted group.

Enemy Phase!

Rand gets attacked from afar but has just enough range to hit back, grabbing a kill (every mission I think of taking away that range-boosting part and I find reasons to keep it).
Gain, meanwhile, gets jumped by a full HP group and cuts it down to size.

What can you do about these, Kei?

The leader gets wrecked and the squaddies are hanging by a thread. That’s not bad.
Jiron’s group also makes the supremely bad decision to attack him and, being in TRI formation, they all get blown away.

Apollo nabs an easy kill as he’s attacked by his previous enemies and this one group of Ishkicks, trying to be clever, eat some missiles from Talho.

Player Phase!

Shaia’s deep in thought, asking Mimsy if it doesn’t seem like the Chiram’s attacks have been getting more vicious recently. Mimsy figures they’re just in a rush to grab Kei but Captain disagrees, saying an attack like this isn’t made when trying to capture someone.
It seems they’re trying to kill Kei which strikes Mome as odd as they, supposedly, need him for the Dimensional Repair…unless, Shaia thinks, they plan on doing it with just their one Singularity. No time to think about it, though, as Papty detects more enemy troops incoming and, this time, it’s the Federation Army.

Matthew’s very annoyed at their insistence in chasing us all the way here and Stoner quickly singles out that black KLF from before. Anemone isn’t happy, though, as she can’t see The End’s “look-alike” around but Dominic tells her not to worry about the Nirvash and, instead, focus on their target.
She yells at him to back off and suggests he just worry about taking care of Gulliver – he does so, while wishing her to be safe out there.

Anemone is a bit confused/grossed out at Dominic’s agreeable attitude and, inwardly, he apologizes that he can’t do any more than just wishing her well.
Jürgens sends all units out to attack with an admonition not to interfere with the Chiram and, with enemies all around us, it seems we’ll have no choice but to deal with these two groups at the same time. Holland isn’t willing to get killed in a place like this and Jiron psyches himself to fight to the bitter end.

Yeah, this is a real dick move. The feds show up all over the northern corner of the map and you need to kill them all, Jürgens and Anemone included, if you want the skill point.
Needless to say, you want to start working on these guys ASAP (a good bunch of them are in wide formation) while also doing your best to draw them closer to our folks by playing their range.

Talho does some good damage, leaving these Chiram very weak. Perfect for Shaia to score some easy kills.

I always find myself feeding kills to the Glomar.

Speaking of feeding kills, Sara takes this one.

This batch is a bit far away but Marin is just in range to TRI them. He’ll be moving towards the Feds with Hit & Away.
Also, oddly enough, the Feds showing up is everyone’s cue to start talking before fights…no idea why they didn’t do this from the get-go.

: I’m part of this team, too…! If one of my friends is risking his life, then I’m also going to pull out all the stops!

The leader gets dropped while the squaddies barely hang on (one with only 9 HP…my enemies never had this much Windanium when I wasn’t recording…).

Gain finishes the job, with Adette leveling up and learning Prevail L4 ad Support Attack L3.

The radar detects something else entering the area but it’s not enemy reinforcements: it’s the Archangel crew, with Waltfeld saying that the Gekkostate’s seems to have a tough fight in their hands.
Hap nearly has a heart attack, thinking that even the Desert Tiger’s crew is gunning for them, but Waltfeld calms him down saying they’re here to help. Talho wonders if this is payback for our assist in Orb but he says we’re free think that, if we want.
Inwardly, Murrue knows that we’re caught right in the middle of some of the Feds’ more worrisome activities and, as such, she cannot allow us to die right now. Garrod is a bit curious, though, as the timing of their arrival seems a bit too perfect, to say nothing of the fact that we were hiding in here.
Waltfeld says they only found this place because they had a certain guide.

It’s Enil, glad to see Garrod after all this time.
Just as Garrod’s shocked to see her here, Tonya’s surprised that the two of them know each other but Rand tells them to leave the reunion for after we’ve dealt with our current mess. Garrod trusts Enil enough to fight alongside her and, if anything, she’s glad to see she made it in time to prevent things from getting broken beyond repair, as Rand said.
With that done, Waltfeld suggests we retreat while they keep the enemy from following but Holland says, in no uncertain terms, that he ain’t budging. Jamil echoes the sentiment and, in that case, Waltfeld says they’ll help us fight as best they can.

Kira’s ready to go, eager to do whatever he can before things reach their breaking point – no matter what foe stands in his way.
Matthew sees the Freedom’s pilot hasn’t changed at all but Garrod figures he's also a pariah, following his own path just like us. Anemone isn’t amused with him messing with her fight and, while he doesn't like it, Kira will fight her if there's no way around it.

OK, so we have the Archangel and a Kira/Waltfeld/Enil platoon showing up right next to the enemy. Should help us clear them out quickly, right?

WRONG! Because, on top of Kira’s “no-kills” gimmick, there’s another issue that also reduces what his buddies can do:

:siren: BIG Secret Alert! :siren:
  • Kira, Murrue, Waltfeld and Enil can't shoot down ANY enemy.
…Yeah, bait and switch.
You can only use these guys to weaken the mooks but that sure as hell won’t stop them from going after them - especially Murrue, as the AI likes to go for ships.
Since the feds are still at full HP, you can keep them around to do some damage but start moving Kira and the Archangel closer to our troops in order to draw the enemy (be also ready to move them behind our folks as too many enemies going after these two can screw with your Skill Point time).

FYI: Enil’s now piloting an Esperanza which is much more support-oriented than her Jenice Custom.
It carries a resupply module, flies and has better movement range but, in exchange, only its weakest attack is post-movement.
She does take upgrades off the GX, though, so she’s decently strong.

The Element System is running now, though, and that’ll really help against the bosses.

As they start moving towards our folks, Kira takes a shot at some nearby Asshimars.

: I swore that I wouldn’t kill anyone else…
: So I will only take away their means of attacking… That is how I’ll fight!
: (You swore not to kill…? Welp… Wonder how long that’ll last.)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbfNGzmgeH8
Yeah, sure. Whatever.
This attack does have a dynamic finish but I can’t show it while Kira’s being an rear end in a top hat…

Still have the remaining Chiram to deal with but at least they’re kind enough to be in Center formation.

Do your thing, Apollo.

: Lessee your guts, Renton! Show your boss how a kid CAN get the job done!

Riea falls 90 HP short of taking her target down…

Holland switches with Kei and dashes by Kira to, hopefully, give the mooks a tastier target to attack.

: Renton… If anything happens to Eureka, I’ll…
: Rrrrr, poo poo! Why did this have to happen?!

That’s one Asshimar dead, too.

Jamil takes out a weakened Ishkick and our remaining Supers start moving towards the Feds.

Enemy Phase!

Elchi and Gain both get jumped and easily down their attackers (but not before Gain eats a hit).
Elchi learns Spirit, too.

The second Nikick group attacks Jiron who, sadly, is out of TRI shots. Gonna have to make do with the Boomerang Idiom.

: UUOOOOOOH! Bring it on! I ain’t budging an inch until Renton and Eureka come back!

Not a whole lot of damage but it helps.

And the feds play ball, with three nearby groups going after Holland (who kills another Asshimar).

These Gadeels zoom across the battlefield and get just in range to attack Ryouma.

: Renton’s off bringing Eureka back. We’d be wasting his spirit if we lost here!
: Whatever it takes, I’ll hold this line until they return!

Not bad.

Everything else starts closing in on us. As before, Jürgens will prioritize the Gekko Go but, I believe, Anemone will focus on whichever group Kei’s on (as per her orders).

Player Phase!

Time to wrap up the Chiram front. Apollo punches their flying airplane carrier twice and off goes around 60% of its health.

Let’s see if Gainer can’t finish the job.

: Renton…! You say we're bros, so show me what you got!
: As your bro, I believe in you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d56va0ogr4
And there it goes.

On the other side, Ryouma’s group shreds one of the Gadeel squads while Shaia steals another kill.

The Government actually has a post-movement TRI and, seeing how Jiron’s out of shots, Burume takes the lead to clear out the last Nikick group.
I had Kira Hi-MAT them to make sure all of them die to this.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKAaJQMpxtM
Nice and easy.

Gainer gets his OverSkill going with that.

Talho takes out the leader of this group and Garrod swoops in to work on the squaddies.

: Hurry, Renton! I don't think we’re gonna be able to hold this for long!

Ah, well. We’ll take this one out when it attacks.

Murrue and Marin pick a healthy squad each and let loose. From Marin’s kill, Hilda learns Support Defense L3.

Rand will help clean it up.

: Even Renton’s going all out for Eureka – we can’t back down!
: Ya got it, Mel! I wouldn’t deserve to be “THE HEAT” if I screwed up now!

No problem – the last Hizack should die when it attacks.

: Isn’t that nice… giving your all for the girl you love.
: Hang in there, Renton! We’re gonna do whatever we can over here!

Kei moves after a pack of Mon-soonos and tears a hole through them.

Enemy Phase!

Kei gets jumped by two groups and dispatches all six of them while Rand gets attacked by that one Hizack and wrecks it.
Burume’s attacked by three groups and, while he eats a lot of damage, he manages to get three kills.

What about you, Marin?

Wide formation saves the squaddie…

Garrod weakens the other Gadeel squad once it attacks.

And Murrue’s jumped by two Mon-soono squads (one of which being Kei’s weakened one, who she’s forced to defend against).
Still, since we didn’t see it before, here’s the Archangel’s regular Lohengrin attack.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApkCZqktCqY

Actually had to restart this turn because of this...Anemone got a very lucky hit on Kei and oneshot him (and I need Kei to go through this quick enough).

Player Phase!

Sara shows how much experience can be gained by healing the nearly dead Burume and the other Sara.
This yields THREE levels, teaching her Support Attack L2 and Strike.

Gainer takes out an Asshimar while Apollo wrecks one of the weakened Mon-soono squads.
Kira, meanwhile, takes a Hi-MAT shot at the two surviving Asshimars to leave them near death.

Talho’s in position to MAP some people so, to get out of her way, Garrod sets off to work on Jürgens.

And there are three easy kills for her!

Ryouma and co. take away a big chunk of Jürgens’ HP and, as a reward, Michiru takes Prevail L4.

He’s got Prevail but I’m confident Rand can handle this…right?

Right. Good man.

Dyke learns Prevail L5 and Rand takes a new spirit command, Drive (気迫): this is a much more expensive version of Spirit which gives +30 morale to the caster.
I very rarely use it but it’s there.

Jürgens has to pull back but he expects all his remaining troops to fight with everything they have.

Shaia quickly dispatches a near-death Daughtress while Kei’s still doing his thing.

Might as well have Jiron deal with these Asshimars as they’re all he can reach.

We’re in the clear now.

Enemy Phase!

The last two mooks play ball and get dropped against Gainer and Garrod.
Anemone is still going after Kei, who’s busy dodging everything.

Player Phase!

Anemone has some choice words for Kira, mind.

: This thing’s more agile than it looks!
: I don’t want to fight but, if she’s coming after me, I—
: Urgh, you’re so annoying! If you’re not going to do this for real then get the hell out of my face!

Ah, excellent.

Alright, that’s enough out of you!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MI7s2yPbqp4
No wonder the Moon Race seemingly never runs out of resources. We’re punching all kinds of poo poo up there!

We get another Dustproof for our troubles.

Anemone’s bored that her look-alike still isn’t here and, besides, something about his place is creeping her out. With that, she goes back home.

:toot:
And not a single kill on the Archangel team!

As soon as all enemies are confirmed destroyed, even more Federation troops show up; holding the line is proving unlikely and we STILL haven’t heard from Renton.
Both Garrod and Tifa are worried about their respective buddies.

: EUREKAA! Where are you?! Please answer me!!
: I wanna apologize to you!!
: (I said I’d pilot the Nirvash because I wanted to help…but now it looks like I hurt you instead…)
: (When we first met, I told you that I knew that machines had feelings…)
: (You said that kind of stuff was obvious. I was really happy that we were alike but…I was wrong.)
: (I only felt like I could understand the feelings of machines… I might’ve convinced myself to think so.)
: (But it looks like you’re actually communicating your feelings with the Nirvash…)
: (I’ve been thinking… I’ve been with you all this time but I don’t understand you or your feelings at all…)
: (But I...I do want to understand. That’s why, I…!)
: EUREKA! Answer me, EUREKAAAAAAA!!

*Renton runs further into the cave*

: Is that the Nirvash?! Then, Eureka is—

: (That’s right…I was looking for a book. I have to find it…)
: (If I don’t hurry, the bus will leave. If I don’t hurry, the sun will set.)
: (I have to find my book quickly. If I don’t, the night will melt me away.)
: I’ve found it…

: (This is me… a book without words…a book with nothing written in it. That’s me…)

: (I am nothing… nothing at all. I couldn’t find myself…)

: (…Melting…I’m melting away…)
: (I’m…I’m scared…)
: (Somebody…help…please, anybody…help me…)
: (Help me…help me, Renton…!)
: EUREKAAAAAAA!!

Back at the edge of the battlefield.

: EUREKAAAAAAA!!

It's not clear from this sequence but, if you check the anime, Eureka's actually melting into all that Scub Coral that forms the cave.

: …Sorry…
: Huh?!
: This is the punishment I deserve...
: Eureka!!
: What’s…going to happen to me…?
: Let’s go back…! Let’s go back to everyone!
: I…I’m…sorry…
: It’s alright!! I…I promise, I’ll keep you safe!

*Renton takes her back to the Nirvash.*

: The Nirvash! Renton?!
: I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry… I’m the one who should be apologizing for being so selfish…
: …
: She was desperate… Eureka was reaching out when she said she leaving the Nirvash with me…!
: And, still, I…I…!

: Renton, run!!
: UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!

: What?!
: He’s…
: Please, Nirvash! Help me!
: Give me enough power to protect Eureka!!

: Not good! Everyone run!
: It’s just like in Bellforest…!
: We’ve got a Seven Swell incoming!!
: RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!!

Some time later, Enil thanks the Archangel team for all their help with Murrue saying she’s the one who should be thankful for all the handy intel Enil provided about the Feds and the Chiram.
Those two groups, like the Emaan, have all been chasing after ZEUTH nowadays and, speaking of, Murrue is also glad to have been able to clear up some rumors surrounding this group with her own eyes. When Enil asks, Murrue says there were a few worrisome stories about our people in the UN but, with today’s meeting, she sees they were wrong.
Enil figures our folk must be rather famous if we’re being talked about in places like that. Waltfeld thinks it’s a shame that our group was separated from the Archangel team while they ran from the Seven Swell but Enil isn’t worried, as she doesn’t think she’d be able to face Garrod and co. after all that’s happened.
Waltfeld believes no man could stay mad at such a beautiful woman and tells her to try and go meet with Garrod again – she thanks him for the words but figures his heart belongs to another girl.

Enil asks what they’re going to do now and, now that they know what the Feds are up to, Waltfeld says they’ll be going for Gibraltar, a large Zaft stronghold.
Also, on that subject, Enil heard that Murrue and co. fought against the other half of ZEUTH while in Galia but Murrue assures her they didn’t want to do so. Regardless, with the knowledge of what both the Plants and the Federation are doing, Waltfeld says the time for them to act has arrived and, when Enil asks, Kira says they’ll fight to stop the world from going down the wrong path.
Enil starts laughing which annoys Cagalli, who says they’re serious. Enil apologizes, merely amused at how pure Kira is. “Those kinda sound like the words of some saint, watching over everything from up high,” she quips.

That said, concerning Kira’s decision to avoid killing anyone in combat, she offers a piece of advice as someone who’s fought alongside him: only God can do good in this world without dirtying his hands.
With that, she takes her leave and wishes for their battles to go well and Waltfeld does the same.
Kira is deep in thought and Cagalli tells him not to worry as, regardless of what anyone says, he should stick to his own path. He agrees but, inwardly, he asks Athrun if said path really is just and wonders if he’ll find an answer if they meet up again.

Back at the Gekko, Holland asks what the hell happened to Eureka but Renton, of course, has no idea.
Holland doesn’t believe that, considering Renton was on-site but the kid insists that, even though he WAS there, he doesn’t know what happened. Holland wonders if he did something to her but Renton says she was already like then when he found her.
He says Eureka passed out when he brought her over to the Nirvash and Holland’s aghast that the kid caused that Seven Swell by himself. Renton says he did it because Eureka was like that but Holland tells him to shut up.
Mischa comes in right then, suggesting that they have to bring Eureka over to the infirmary (even though she has no idea of what they can do). Furthermore, she asks him to head to the bridge as they’ve just received a transmission from Löwen and this seems to give Holland an idea.

As Holland gets to the bridge, Hap relates how our folk are all safe and sound but he doesn’t care, instead asking for him to open the comm to Löwen. Talho protests about his attitude, saying everyone went through hell to escape that Seven Swell.
He tells her to shut up and orders Gidget to do as told, which she does. Löwen’s glad to see us safe but Holland tells him to leave the speech for later because he’s got something to ask of him.
Holland wants to borrow some of the Fed’s resources and imagines Löwen’s in the neighborhood – he’ll tell the details once they meet.

That’s actually good for Löwen because, as it turns out, Edel also wants to meet us in person.
Holland agrees on the chance that it’ll make his request easier to be granted and Löwen gives us directions to a place where we can meet. As the comm gets cut, Talho asks what the hell Holland is doing making a big decision like that by himself but he once again tells her to shut up and orders our destination forwarded to Jamil and the others.

Hap asks what he’ll do if the others refuse and Holland’s more than willing to have the Gekko go there alone - there’s no other way about this.
Ken-goh asks if this is because of Eureka and, once he confirms, Talho snaps that she’s VERY tired of how “Eureka this, Eureka that” is all he says whenever he opens his mouth. Hap tries to calm her down and Talho’s quite aware that Eureka isn’t some ordinary girl but Holland isn’t really listening.
Inwardly, he tells Eureka to wait as he’ll find a way to save her - he’ll use whatever means necessary to make that happen.

I’m not crying…I just have something in my eyes! :smith:

Speaking of Enil, isn't the Esperanza weaker than her old Jenice Custom?

Also people calling out Kira and Kira himself doubting, even if for a moment, is already a gigantic improvement over SEED Destiny and Jesus Yamato. I know it continues and it is glorious.

Renton's devotion to the woman he loves is just as endearing in Eureka Seven proper as it is here, and Holland is a prick. He'll grow. Eventually. I do want to see if his attitude annoys everyone though, not just his crew.

Yeah, that's support attack; dunno why I wrote it as defense but, either way, it's fixed.

And, yes, Renton is great in here...which only makes the transition to the movies all the more frustrating...

Huh, this part of E7 really doesn't translate to SRW cutscenes that well.

Also I was wondering what was going on with Enil when they dropped her part in getting the DX. Being the one sane person on the Archangel is pretty good I guess.

Rand mellowed out a lot of Enil's beef with Garrod, so she never got involved with the Zonder Epta mess like in the show.

As for Enil being in the Archangel, I've a feeling this is a small joke at Murrue and Tonya having the same VA - she won't join the Freeden but she'll hang out with the next best thing.

Well the whole part of E7 doesn't translate well, seeing as the whole (original) point is that the Gekko can't fly and the caves are supposed to be so small none of the LFOs can really do anything, but that really doesn't translate at all for SRW where it's all talking heads and stages featuring fights are kind of a necessity.

It's kind of like the part in Z2 which takes the Simon vs. Lordgenome fight from Gurren Lagann and turns it from what was a one-on-one knock down drag out fight to the finish to... a bunch of super robots fighting a real tough boss.

Probably replicas as it seems like an easier way to avoid clashing art styles.

Evangelion's Angels are the spawn of the ancient alien bioconstruct known as Adam, whereas humans and all eukaryotic terrestrial life are the spawn of the ancient alien bioconstruct Eve, but I have no idea if they kept that part in SRW. The Angels don't live on Earth though, so they're definitely an extraterrestrial invasion. :v:

If all works out I will eventually be topping that with 14! Which isn't counting M3 where the weird zombie metal stuff came from something that's ambiguously an alien anyway, Bushi Road where the only explanation ever given for the Shinobi is them being 'born from human despair' but they match well with a setting of 'earth is screwed forever and killer aliens are the new dominant species', and Betterman where uh...'see above' is the best summary explanation I can think of.

Z3's hardly a slouch on that count though. The Invaders, Gishin, Heterodyne, Vajra, and Anti-Spiral are still around, the Tetsujin space king dude shows up, and now there's the Angels and STMC. ELS are inbound any second too. There's also the Aquarion EVOL guys...sorta, if you really want to count them as aliens, and...would the Myceneans qualify? I'd say not but I don't know much about them, only ever watched Shin and they appear for like five seconds. If you want to count the stuff that happened in Z1 then that adds another 8 definite ones but eh.

Setsuko Route Chapter 30 Part 1

Last time on Super Robot Wars Z: Kira Yamato is a dick. Also, I have free time again so back to watching me go through the game without powerful New Game+ Units.

Current Top Aces:

1. Setsuko - 78 Kills
2. Amuro - 68 Kills
3. Shinn - 63 Kills
4. Quattro - 61 Kills
5. Talia - 61 Kills

Talia's probably going to lose her spot on the Top Aces list soon, mostly because with the last stage and this one she's not going to get many kills at all.

Meanwhile holy crap look at that. :signings: It's a FAITH Badge, which increases a pilots starting Will by 10. I buy it and the Strategy Manual.

Shinn gets the FAITH Badge, now he and Athrun are in the same group! :v: This is an upgrade over his old Tin-Plate Goldfish.

Kouji is handed said Goldfish.

Shinn's also given an Inertial Control System. Bright gets a Sensory Helmet. And finally, Tetsuya gets a Strategy Manual for this stage. I'll probably be swapping it between him and Kouji as they take turns leading the Double Burning Fire Squad.

Ray and Luna are Event deploys, so they get a bit of an upgrade.

I also give some of the more important Squadmate mechs (Read: units with Repair and Resupply modules) some extra upgrades as well.

Athrun gets Focused Attack. Might as well do more ALL Spamming.

So here's the Squads for this stage.

  • Setsuko, Roberto, Emma
  • Kamille, Joseph, Loran
  • Kouji, Tetsuya, Maria
  • Quattro, Katz, Sophie
  • Amuro, Apolly, Gavane
  • Kappei, Boss, Reccoa
  • Toga, Sayaka, Miashey
  • Toshiya, Jun

Kamille and Loran have swapped mechs today, and unfortunately I just don't have enough units to have all full squads. So Toshiya and Jun pair up because God Sigma needs a Resupply unit the least.

In western Galia, ORB army commander Todaka visits the Phantom Pain, along with Yuna himself, who is a bit disappointed at the Phantom Pain's difficulty considering they're supposed to be elite. Neo smoothly points out that they encountered some unexpected interference.
Ah yes, the Archangel - unforgivable that the former Representative is in their clutches, mugs Yuna (Ben tactfully refrains from pointing out that said kidnapping is ORB's own fault).
Anyway, with these two forces cooperating, Yuna is confident that nothing can stand in their way, be it ZEUTH or the Archangel.

A message comes in, and Ben passes it on to Neo: they've spotted ZEUTH activity. Not continuing to Gibraltar, though; a small team has broken off into Lodonia, and it looks like they're scouting for something.
Neo has a bad feeling about Lodonia...

Over there, ZEUTH has uncovered some kind of research lab. Luckily, they brought Prof. Kazami who suspected this might’ve been the case (Rey apologizes but Kazami doesn’t blame him, saying a scientist like him would be useful here).
The inside of the lab looks like an old battleground, and the explorers carefully advance, trying not to let the facility crumble beneath their feet...

Back in Port Tarkius, where the Minerva is docked, Kihel fills Loran in on the Ghingnham fleet - composed of the military arm of the Moon Race civilization the way the Diana Counter represents its citizens.
At their head is Gym Ghingnham himself, a man who does not seem to agree with the alliance with ZAFT.

Before she can elaborate on what she knows of Ghingnham, a soft-spoken young woman interrupts looking for guidance: she's lost and separated from her companions.
Kihel gladly offers her help, though she's not sure how much they'll be, since they're not from around here either.
Loran’s a bit suspicious of this pink-haired lady; he feels like he should know her, but can't quite put his finger on it...

And Teteth is still stalking Diana, of course. She doesn’t know why she’s traveling around incognito and away from the main group but it’ll be the end of her.
She tells the people of this area that, if they need to blame anyone for what’ll happen, to blame Diana.

In the meantime, Sting has dragged Four out on the town for a date. What? "Not with me, though."
It's a favor, in thanks; the Extended owe Four a lot, and in particular for how she's taken care of Stella, the child soldier in the awkward position of her "block word" being "death" - and having just seen Buran and Rosamia die before her eyes.
Besides, their lives aren't worth much - they'll either die in battle or be disposed of after the war - so it's a precious gift just for Four and Rosamia to have been Stella’s friends.
Four feels like she owes Stella just the same, and Rosamia too, but Sting's here to talk about the other person she's made a connection with; as it turns out, that ZEUTH boy’s in town and they set up a meeting between the two of them.
Auel snips that it was rather troublesome to bring him over but Sting shushes him and they both clear out quick.
They'll tell Neo she's scouting out the town, but she probably only has a couple hours...
After they leave, Kamille asks about those two and Four says they’re the same as Stella and Rosamia…her friends.
There seems to be a lot they need to talk about…

So naturally, we cut to Athrun, who's been contacted by Miriallia Haw (honestly) a full two years since they last saw each other (at the end of the great war).
But how did she know he was on the Minerva? Actually, she was asked to bring Athrun here on someone's behalf...

It's Kira and Cagalli! It seems like Miriallia contacted them for an interview (being a freelance photographer), but Kira asked her for a favor in return.
It's time for these two and Athrun to have a good long talk, starting with Cagalli, who was worried sick since the marriage and her being unable to contact Athrun; then, she has the unpleasant surprise that he’s back with ZAFT.
Athrun believes that's the best place for him to be right now, and that should be from ORB's point of view as well; on the other hand, what about Kira, who charged into a battle in progress, extended it for no reason, and was even responsible for the unnecessary loss of a life?

Kira has no answer, but Cagalli protests that our group was fighting against ORB’s troops and they were trying to stop it; that said, Athrun can't believe she ever thought the ORB forces would obediently pack up and leave.
Her going around sticking her nose into battlefields after ORB is already allied with the Federation is closing the door after the horses have charged out.

Now it's Kira's turn to question Athrun siding with ZAFT; Athrun is sticking by his view that all the problems are coming from the Federation, which is being steered by a few arrogant men who hate all from outside the planet, not just the Coordinators. And all this while aliens and angels besiege their world. The one with the most resources in trying to end all of this is Durandal.

"But is he?" asks Kira. Sure, ZEUTH has only the good of the world in mind, but does he really have that much faith in Durandal’s wish for peace? Athrun feels that he's proved that, but then what about the "Lacus" he has with him? And why did a Coordinator team try to assassinate the real Lacus?

This is actually news to Athrun - that Coordinators, in the guise of Federation soldiers, attacked them at ORB, forcing him to deploy in the Freedom to stop everyone from being killed.
PLANT may be trustworthy, but Kira can't assume that until he knows the truth behind those incidents. Athrun still won't pin that on the Chairman, and he intends to keep fighting as a member of FAITH and ZEUTH – not just against the Federation but against anyone else who does wrong.

Kira finally asks what's probably actually on his mind. "Including ORB, like before?"

Athrun can't afford to hesitate; if he has no choice, he'll fight ORB to stop the Titans and the Blue Cosmos. If they want to avoid battle with them, isn't the best course of action to cancel the treaty between ORB and the rest of the Federation? Then he'll have no reason to fight ORB, at least.

: But, Athrun...
: I mean, I know that, but... I don't want to fight against ORB either...
: Kira!
: Not just ORB, even. I don't want to have to kill anyone, ever again...
: !
: You think you're above the rest of us? Do you know how much blood you already have on your hands?
: That's why I... don't want to do it again...
: Kira...
: I don't want to kill. Don't make me...
: Fine. Then you should stop what you're doing and go back to ORB. Right?
: ...

Nearby, Joseph and Luna were ordered to tail Athrun, who snuck out of the Minerva without authorization, but never imagined they'd find him in contact with Rep. Athha and the Archangel crew.
Luna's confused; she and Joseph agree that they can't tell anyone in ZEUTH outside of ZAFT, but she might have to inform Captain Gladys.

But Joseph suddenly finds someone following them. She's a journalist, she claims - someone who finds the truth and brings it to light...

Kamille and Four had a good date, but their time is up.
Kamille urges her not to go, lest they have to fight again, but she still wants her memories above all. "I'm sure there'll be a lot of sad ones, but... I want to know that I lived.", she says.
He tries to stop her, but an explosion rocks the sky, and she runs.

The explosion was right by Loran and Kihel and he protects the girls as best he can.
But who set the bomb, and who was it for, wonders Loran?

Waltfeld catches up and outs the girl as Lacus to Loran and Kihel. He also explains that he saw the bomber but lost her - a woman with red hair in a bun (Loran quickly remembers Teteth).
At any rate, he thanks Loran for saving his charge, but also asks them to forget what they saw "for both our sakes." Kihel agrees, and Lacus asks both their names before Waltfeld takes her to safety.
Loran, of course, has the same questions re: the Lacus Clyne who they saw with Chairman Durandal, but Kihel intends to stick to her word and pretend this never happened.
Loran ponders that, if she was Lacus, it wouldn't be surprising that she had a target on her head - but if the assassin is who the man with the scar said it was, there's no doubt who this attempt was aimed at.

Kamille and Athrun arrive together, having (of course) heard the bomb go off.
Kamille decides it's a good time to ask Loran and Kihel what they’re hiding; it's pretty obvious that there's something suspicious about him and Kihel, and how they keep wandering off quietly on their own (it could be a private matter, yes, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case).
Loran won't say - he can't say - and Athrun finally steps in to say that it's not, in fact, a good time. Kihel's pretty sure he's got secrets of his own. (Doesn't everybody?)

Anyway, Athrun passes down the return order from the Captain.
It's not the Phantom Pain coming over, though; apparently, poo poo's going down at that facility Rey's team is investigating.

Back at Lodonia, we find Rey catatonic.
Julie and Shinn don’t know what caused it but he got like that almost as soon as they entered this room - a room full of dead children.(:wtc:)
Kazami takes one look at pronounces it a weapons factory: "Perhaps it's best described as a facility that makes weapons out of humans..."

Chapter 30: Where Sins Lie

As the Jins share the news, Gengoroh explains that those kids were "enhanced" to bring out their potential as tools of war, by any means necessary - brainwashing, drugs, and even physical modifications.
Hanae is horrified, but old Heizaemon and Umie know that they're in no position to judge. But it still doesn't feel too good.
Anyway, the Minerva and Argama have gone in to dig further, since the ships’ soldiers seem in no position to. In the meantime, the King Beal and the rest of ZEUTH is on watch, the Zaft team included.

Rey seems fine, and Shinn isn't suspicious of his reaction - it was a pretty gruesome scene.
He tells Rey to rest up, but Rey has a question for him: "Who is Stella?"

The briefing hardly prepared the captains to see it either, but they have some conclusions to share.
First, reports from outside suggest that this place was warped in a few days ago - something that was here before Break The World, was shoved out when it happened, and has now fallen back into reality.
Second, there's no damage outside the facility, meaning all the fighting took place between people within it. Kazami's guess is that the lab rats staged a revolt and Rie seems to sympathize, what with their existence being limited to waging war.
Just another way the Extended seem a lot like the Cyber-Newtypes from Bright's world.
The Naturals refused to genetically splice their soldiers, but it seemed they were willing to try everything else to win the war.

As usual, there's little time to reflect; Gengoroh's sighted what looks an awful lot like the Phantom Pain moving in to attack. But what if they're not coming after us but to wipe out the facility before the atrocities that occurred here get exposed and become a severe PR blow to the Federation?
The King Beal may be able to hold them off for a bit; Talia asks Kazami and Rie to save as much data as they can.

ZEUTH deploys, and Athrun has peeled off from whatever squad he would otherwise have been with; he says he intends to intercept the Archangel himself if it comes to that.
Luna did submit her report to Talia, but she's sure Athrun's not a spy for the Archangel or anything.
He certainly didn't look happy when he was talking to Kira. Still, Joseph feels like it's worth keeping an eye out.

Kappei can't wait to bang up the Phantom Pain, but something is, of course, getting Keiko down about it.
Uchuuta's about to tell him what, but she stops him. Kappei remains apathetically oblivious.

The Phantom Pain arrives en masse during the absence of the Minerva and Argama, only confirming how much they want to keep this place hidden.
Rey has deployed along with Shinn and Luna after all, and he asks if Stella’s piloting the Gaia.
He tells Shinn that they have to disable her on their own; they won't be able to count on ZEUTH's cooperation. Shinn wonders why Rey's helping, but appreciates it.

Luna asks what's going on; Shinn says it's "guy talk," and Rey just says their plan is to deal with the Second Stages themselves.
Shinn psyches himself to stop Stella.

Despite not actually being in a formation, Sting, Auel (who’s strangely silent), and Stella plan to use the formation moves that Buran trained them in.
Neo orders his men to break through ZEUTH and take the lab - if they can't claim it, destroy it.

This gets Auel up in a frenzy: he remembers the lab - the lab they grew up in - the lab his mother should be in. "ZAFT is gonna kill mother! I've gotta save her!", he yells.
When Four asks, Neo explains that there was a woman working at that lab who had a fondness for Auel, and treated him like her own child.
That's the trigger that imbalances Auel, it seems. Four begs Neo to recall Auel, but instead, Neo tells Auel that he has to destroy ZEUTH to save his mother; as the kid readily agrees, Stella and Sting also ready themselves to help.

Four isn’t happy but Neo says this is part of war and, if Four can't handle it, she's free to leave.
No, she says. She'll fight for the memories Auel treasures, even if they're a lie.

"Good-bye, Kamille... but I can't say I wish I'd never met you. The time I spent with you is one of my few, precious memories...", she thinks to him.

Kamille sees that she’s for real and, in that case, he won’t hold back either.

Gengoroh lays out the battle plan: the lab lies behind them.
If any enemies make it past this edge of the combat zone, they'll have a shot at that building and our captains within it. So don't let that happen!
Neo orders all troops forward to not only fulfil their mission but to get revenge for Buran and Rosamia.

So now we're at the main event itself. Thankfully this stage is a bit easier then the last one. It's a defense mission.

The objective is to defeat all the enemies while not allowing any enemy unit to reach the white line. If one does it's game over. The battle mastery is fairly simple. Defeat the Psyco Gundam within 5 turns. Naturally, this comes with some additional elements.

:siren:SECRET ALERT: Defeat the Psyco Gundam with Kamille, and then defeat Stella with Shinn.:siren:

Yes, in that order. The secrets involving Stella and Four are connected, if you were to defeat Stella first the result would be suboptimal.

I move everybody forward, but Athrun's the only one who gets in range this round.

He does pretty well.

Here's what the enemies will do. They'll move forward as much as possible, aiming to reach the west side of the map. They'll target anyone in range though, thankfully.

The Murasame's are in TRI formation, and will of course use Tri-Charges. Which hurt.

Granted, targeting Shinn probably wasn't the best idea. By this point our little ZAFT Squad is pretty untouchable and hits hard.

The Windams are in center formation, but usually use their ALL Attack.

And so Shinn's RNG luck runs out. Ow.

Fortunately, the Extended kids hang back this round.

Four will, of course, do her best to snipe Kamille.

: Disappear and get out of my head!
: Four, we just talked a few hours ago...
: I... I won't hesitate anymore! If you really want to fight...
: Then I'll meet you in battle and fight with all my might!

Luckily at that range she's not super accurate.

Let's see. Shinn's an Ace, so +5 starting Will, one of my five Top Aces, so another +5 Will, then he has the FAITH Badge equipped for +10 Will, and his Battle Spirit skill gave him +3 at the start of this round. So in total he only had to get 7 Will to hit the 130 Will threshold for SEED. He easily got that from dodging a few attacks.

This will not be the first Trust I cast to heal up.

Athrun leaves a single Windam on the brink of death behind.

Who is promptly finished off by Toshiya.

There's an Enemy Squad over there Setsuko.

Now there isn't, thanks.

Kouji wipes out another.

Kamille goes up in Wide Formation to soften up this squad and beat the leader.

There we go.

The King Beal's has yet to get enough Will for ALL attacks, so I'll just settle for further softening.

Miashey takes the lead for a round, so she can use her Tri. Sadly, still fails to wipe out the entire squad.

Quattro shows us how it's done.

: Come on! Let's show these jerks turning kids into weapons a thing or two!
: (You still haven't figured it out, Kappei?)
: (We've been trained for war in our sleep... we're just like them...)

:smith:

Meanwhile Attack Again continues to be wonderful.

Here we see a mistake I made.

The mistake is that I was freely using the Impluse's attacks, because usually I can just drain it dry and then swap frames... except that this stage doesn't have the Minerva! Oops! :v:'

The stragglers run forward on the enemy phase.

Lousy barrier...

Now the named pilots start moving up.

Even Four moves up to better hit Kamille.

: (Our memories... our pasts... they only brought Rosamia and Auel pain...)
: (But it can't all be bad! That's why I... I'll fight to protect yours, Auel!)

I knew Kamille could survive a hit from that, so I didn't dodge and instead got in some chip damage. On to the next turn!

Another casting of Trust to heal up Kamille after that round with Four.

I take down this Murasamae because next turn it could reach the edge.

It gets Apolly another level of Prevail.

Athrun does his thing.

So does Setsuko. Her TRI Attack having three ammo is great, that's more then the average. Which is two.

This gives Emma another level of Support Defense and teaches her Bless(60).

Darn it Toshiya! You had one job here!

Well, at least that kill got both him and Jun more Prevail.

So Quattro finishes the job, complete with unnecessary crit.

I swap Rey to the leader roll for his Hit&Away+Long Range TRI. (And to save some of Shinn's ammo.)

Flat out body blocking enemy squads in missions like this is useful.

Toga crits with one of them, leaving one dead and two crippled.

Man these spider mechs are bulky. On the plus side...

Kouji learns Valor(35) :getin: When you absolutely want something dead, for the foreseeable future I can just point Kouji at it.

As a bonus, Mazin Power starts up.

I have everyone in Kamille's squad use Focus, because Four is going to be trouble.

Kamille moves to finish off this thing, which is apparently called a Gells-Ghe. Whatever that means.

Great job there.

Let's take this Zamza-Zah down a notch.

I really dislike this barrier.

Kappei takes aim next, but it's not enough darn it.

That thing dies next round.

Team Gravion continues to be awesome.

Finally that annoying thing comes down.

That Asshimar squad tries to be sneaky and get past Rey, doesn't work.

Stella's in range to start shooting. Since Shinn isn't a Squad leader she won't instantly rush him. Luckily she only has a 30% hit rate on Setsuko.

: I'll protect... I'll protect them all! I'll protect Auel and Sting and Four and Neo and Shinn!

Setsuko's ability to only get hit on low rates continues to impress.

Auel moves up too, he has a 20% chance to hit.

: Mother... I'll save you!
: I swear I'll save you! I've been working hard so I can save you!

Uhhh OK...

Sting's sniping Toga...

: (Hold on, Auel! We'll crush these guys and save your memories of your mom!)

:negative: The RNG is not my friend today. The rest of the stage will be up by Tuesday.

Ask me about being the best dad ever.
Just when it seemed like SEED's Federation couldn't get any more unspeakably evil. Why don't they go the extra mile and make a mech powered by the tortured souls of the dead and puppy blood?

Also, you know you're watching legit SEED when Kira and Athrun are yelling at each other about who's right and both manage to come across as complete morons.
