pitbull murder instincts are really only supposed to be toward other dogs + possibly prey/game animals tho. a pitbull attacking another dog is unsurprising, a pitbull attacking a person really should be. at least how they were originally bred they were meant to be mad loyal, you can't have your FIGHTIN DOGGE attacking its handlers and poo poo. ?___? but then people hosed it up so lol. wannabe cool guys trainin their dogs to hate everything instead of just other dogs ruining things for everyone even more, is cool, and great,, pitbull people who don't at least acknowledge that their dogs' breed are supposed to want to murder other dogs are weird tho. dog aggression was initially selected for. i really like pitbulls and a lot of them aren't even dog aggressive these days because people aren't necessarily always breeding for that and not doing anything about dogs that don't exhibit the trait and letting those breed but that is part of their Tragic Backstory i'm p sure??? let me post about dogs

Your average mutt is going to be just fine with proper socialisation and obedience training, but they haven't been selectively bred for stable temperament so it really is a lottery (as are rescues, to some extent). It's always an advantage when getting a dog if you have a whole lot of information about its heritage, even if its a mutt - you don't want to be the person who ends up with the pup which has the worst physical and behavioural characteristics of each breed from which it was spawned. If you're getting a mutt because they're cheaper, you probably shouldn't own a dog, because you're looking at potentially having to deal with health problems associated with at least two breeds. Yeah, you should be able to control your dog both on and off leash (and a leash isn't sufficient to hold a giant breed), but it's basic courtesy to have your dog leashed.
