If you haven't seen Tropic Thunder, you should, because I had this exact reaction to Tom Cruise's role. -he's not billed at all anywhere in the credits as far as I'm aware -there was no publicity about his role prior to release -he's made up to look really different (paunchy bald middle aged movie exec guy) -his role is pretty drat funny I had that weird feeling of "who IS that?!" and it was only late or at the end of the film that I figured out who it was.

I ask about this here every couple of months, it's a submarine movie where a group of people has to rescue a crashed sub that's lodged in some rocks/whatever. It's NOT The Abyss. I want to say it was a tv movie that was kinda sorta not really "based on a true story." Definitely made in the late eighties or very early nineties after The Abyss/Deep Star Six/etc. The only other thing I remember though is a communication between the trapped sub captain and the rescue craft captain about different types of explosives to lower in to blast them out without crushing the sub.

I don't know why but I love sub movies and while this sounds familiar I couldn't place it. there are a TON of sub movies but I did some poking around good possibility is Gray Lady Down. I'm watching an English Speaking horror movie in Mexico now, and no one in my group can place it. It features a young blond woman, who looks sort of like Brittany Murphy, who called a wrong phone number and is now getting calls back from that number with a guy being wierd and from other houses containing people about to be murdered. Boston cops just showed up to tap her phone. Along those same lines, circa 1980 Arnold Schwarzenegger cameo-ing in Terminator Salvation There was also Mark Hamill in Jay and Silent Bob Strike back, and the movie literally stops and says "Hey, look! It's Mark Hamill!"

They never say the name Julia Roberts (or any name), but they need a distraction and it's pointed out that the character played by Julia Roberts looks exactly like a famous actress, so they have a scene where Julia Roberts impersonates Julia Roberts.

Not: Raiders/sequels, King Solomon's Mines, Firewalker, Romancing the Stone, or any TV show/cartoon/anime. I've been vaguely curious as to what this is for years now, and am still only vaguely interested.

There was a trailer that was just out this year for a movie that I never heard anything about that I can remember. Somehow people were in a house at a party and there was a blackout (or a comet or an eclipse or something) and they went outside to investigate and somehow came across another version of themselves also out and looking around? I've tried this one before a long time ago, maybe someone knows it now. It's a Japanese modern samurai / yakuza film that I must've seen around '03 or '04, and probably had come out maybe 5 years before that at most. All I remember is there were two rival gang members or something, and at the climax of the film, the bad guy slices the good guy's girlfriend's head off in a field. I remember lots of green and blue filters in the film, it was very dark looking and modern for the time. Also, there might have been a plot point of one of them having a whole lot of tattoos.

I'm trying to find a movie I saw a bit of on cable a few years back. It was live-action, and most likely made in the last 10-15 years. It felt like a science-fiction film, but I do not remember enough details to say for sure. I recall it being in English, but it may have been a foreign production. The part I recall watching centred on a police detective with a unique ability. He could be interviewing someone, ask them a completely benign question like "What did you have for breakfast" or "What size shoe do you take", and when they answer he'd automatically know everything he needed to about their relation to whatever case he was working on. That's the way I remember it, anyway. For a long time I thought the movie was Immortal, a French produced film, but I saw it a couple of days ago and nothing similar to the above was in it.

I'm trying to identify a film of which I only saw a snippet a couple of years ago. I'm fairly sure it's a post-2000 film and it's set in the modern day. It's Scandinavian but I couldn't tell which country at the time. In this scene there's a man in a house on his own at night and a gang of people have arrived outside and are threatening him, they seem to think he's done something horrible (maybe they think he's a paedophile?). There's a bigger guy who seems to be a ring leader who threatens him and is carrying a large axe. After the lone man refuses to come out, big guy starts trying to chop the door open. He makes a hole and slowly reaches in to get the door latch. The lone man steps forward and nails big guy's hand to the door with a nailgun and does it a couple of times to make sure it stays there. Any help much appreciated!
