While poking through the (astonishingly long) list of landmarks and such, I found that the Burger King ploppable (in among all the other North American style restaurants) is a big ol' brown box. I hardly did extensive looking so there may be others, but that's all I saw so far.

Tai posted:Yeah steam mods go into a different location Tai on the CD/DVD version posted:Ok plugins go in C:\Users\XXXXXX\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\ Just for the record, the Steam version will detect plugins in that Documents folder as well. Just need to run the game once to make it appear after installing. I think all versions actually have two places you can put plugins: In the game's install folder or in that Documents folder. There was some reason why you shouldn't put them in the game folder itself. I think it had something to do with the fact that NAM needs to load before all others or something, and the sequence is hosed up if they're not all in the same directory. I booted up an old hard drive today and found some old Simcity 4 amateur pornography I made years ago: Actually i think this one is particularly ugly now. What's with that big CN tower? Ugh. From my "seaside Irish towns" phase. From before I learned that if you put down a lot of 3x2 C zones you will get that horrible dark blue office tower over and over. Gotta have a harbor with seawalls. I like the revolving restaurant tower in this one. Shibawanko fucked around with this message at 21:19 on Jan 8, 2015 |

Very nice cities. Also, those screenshots where you've bumped up the colour saturation look quite nice. I wouldn't go quite that far personally - maybe about half-way between those and the default - but I wonder if it'd be possible to make like a post-processing colour saturation mod for use in-game.

Has anybody gotten the steam version to work with a large ~3gb plugins folder on a mac? I keep getting stalled when I go into Mayor mode to start a city, but everything works fine up until that point. If I remove the mods, it's fine. I've tried the OP OF and the pack Tai made. I can play it on the Windows side, but really don't want to deal with rebooting every time I want to play this.

Someone did mention something a few pages back about large plugin folders for Mac's causes it to freak out. I'm not sure how Tusen is getting along. He was crashing on load and managed to get it going for awhile before crashes. He might be fixed now. Anyway, things to try. Make sure you have just 1 core set for the game and set it to high priority. Try software mode and turn off clouds/waves Lower the resolution I doubt it will make any difference since you can run the game fine. Double check the plugins are in the correct directory. There's a few places it can go and retail one is different to steam I think? The comment above regarding NAM being in a different plugin folder rings a bell.

Yeah, I was having all sorts of issues on my Desktop PC SC4, I'm probably going to delete the plugins and cherrypick them with very little growable stuff. For OSX (the App Store version, anyways) the size of the files doesn't matter, but the number of files does, so use the DATpacker. I've always loved the stock New York region, so I've been working on making my own version of NY. Jamaican Queens is my primary city, with 221,000 citizens, 0 industrial jobs and 162,000 commercial jobs. Kingston and Uptown have about 25k and 50k industrial jobs respectively, and my two farming communities have around 15k jobs each. I started out with a monorail loop around my main area and I just had to put subway underneath it because all of my stations were at 100% capacity (each one has a capacity of 60,000 and also can do subway and bus, so that made them super convenient. Heavy Rail links the cities together, especially Jamaican Queens to Kingston. I just started Bronx and I have to leave for work soon but I'll be trying to figure out the best way to implement mass transit early on since I have a feeling that a lot of people will move in from Jamaican Queens. I kind of want to do Elevated Rail instead of Monorail, but I think that will cause issues down the line since you can't utilise the same stations for elevated rail and subway like you can with the modern monorail stations (afaik anyways) FAT32 SHAMER fucked around with this message at 15:01 on Jan 9, 2015 |

So I live in Detroit, home of the Automobile and almost total lack of mass transit. I really want to build a city that has a similar layout since it was designed to be ruled by automobiles: The only problem is, does NAM fix the bug where diagonal roads use taxicab geometry and take twice as long to reach somewhere since they are technically going up one over one?
|
# ? Jan 12, 2015 02:48 |

That's less of a bug and more a case of it being "just how things are". I don't think it's possible to "fix" that without, for example, having complete access to the sourcecode and going ottd on it. (Man I wish that would/could happen)

Rush Hour/SC4D is at least a functional and fun game on its own, but for me NAM and fundamentally required for a good experience. I'd download the old fashioned pack and be happy with it if you don't want to slip into dependency hell.

My main city will not grow past 221k residents for some reason so I buikt another residential/commercial city right next to it and it almost immediately sprang up to 88k residents. I loaded the other city and the number of residents didn't drop after a year, so I guess a lot of sims didn't want to live in a high rises. I still have a bit of land to develop in my second city, then I'm gonna build a third more suburban city that's straight low zone everything and build fancy winding side street instead of my grids which I love so much. I installed CAM but it doesn't seem to be working right since I don't have the vault thing that gives me info. Provided that I get it set up right, will that get my cities over that hump? I read that it may not work well on already developed regions or cities so I'm not exactly sure what to do about it

CAM should work straight out on cities built without CAM although it is likely to gently caress around and potentially in a bad way as it's adding a gently caress load more growth stages to it. Basically, with CAM, you need to build enough XXX to advance to another growth stage. What does your current demand say in the city that has got stuck at 221k residents? Bear in mind also, a lot of mods these days are built around CAM and will have some code in there so they won't build till a certain a growth stage has been hit. This comes into play a lot for high tech buildings and sky scrapers. Tai fucked around with this message at 10:49 on Jan 12, 2015 |

It hides all UI except the button itself. So if you want to mosaic you'll have to overlap the button with other screenshots to hide it. Also make sure to turn clouds off if you're doing mosaics.

As evidenced by the noobish things I've posted here, I'm mostly interested in playing sort of an enhanced vanilla version of Sim City 4, and I have NAM installed, and I'm eyeballing CAM as an improved city growth mod. Or is CAM more of an enabler for mods, so you can pack your skylines with an explosion of multicolored towers? I'm basically looking for a good balance between realism, fun, and Sim City the way it was intended by the designers. Just a good base game, I'll go looking for game-altering enhancements later.

I deliver! This is 1/16 of the full image. 1/4 size (8.23 MB PNG, 2996x2024): http://files.cordilon.net/SC4/Victoria-District-Quarter.png Full size (128 MB PNG holy gently caress, 11984x8096): http://files.cordilon.net/SC4/Victoria-District-Full.png This is a small (four large tiles) section of the region I'm working on from the region map in the thread OP. All the screenshots involved were taken at 1920x1080 at zoom level 3. The mosaic was put together by overlapping screenshots in Photoshop, with seams fixed up with the clone stamp and content aware fill tools. It took about two hours to take all the screenshots (all 74 of them) and edit them together. Most of the seams are fixed, but blending the water textures together was a bit of a pain in some spots so it kinda looks like rear end at lower zooms. As I work on the region I'll probably update the mosaics, and create more for different sections. If people are interested, that is.
