I've been thinking about this lately, and I can't tell if Tyrion is going to get set up with a redemption starting with the Second Sons or if he's going to die while playing advisor to Danearys. I really can'tsee him getting back all the way to King's Landing to take vengeance on Cersei, I have a feeling Cersei's done for when Aegon shows up. I hope he goes before Dany and she just has him killed offhand. "Oh you're that midget son of the rear end in a top hat who betrayed my father and whose brother murdered my father? Feed him to the dragons." It'd be worth it just so his goddamn cult of fans would lose their poo poo. No great showdown or anything. Just killed off like a chump because his luck ran out. Everyone wants him to be the Valonquar and kill Cersei but that's going to be Jaime if she's gonna get killed off by family.

Executed incidentally for arriving w/ Jorah, and it happens offscreen in a Dany chapter. My real guess is he saves Dany with the mercenary company he's with (been a while since I read book 5) and travels back to Westeros with her to fight Aegon, but becomes convinced that Aegon would be a better ruler than Dany (even though he's a fake) and backstabs Dany at the last moment. Then he re-unites with Jaime and says something about how they're both kingslayers now and Jaime kills him.

Production spy photos for Season 5 show Tryion's somehow worked his way into Dany's inner circle by the time Danzak's Pit happens, so I wouldn't hold my breath of that ever happening. Mainly because the show is going to be series canon from here on out whether GRRM likes it or not.

His king was betrayed by their family and he was forced out of the Kingsguard by Cersei. That's assuming he can even recognize Tyrion from where he was at. Or that Dany's immediate reaction wouldn't be something along the lines of "oh someone from the House that betrayed and murdered my father? I changed my mind, let the lions eat them."

They might also assume he has value as a hostage, or that they might learn something useful by interrogating him (Dany's not above torture by this point). There's a lot of reasons not to just let him die without talking to him.

A former Hand with no loyalties to the current regime with pretty up to date knowledge of the Houses (they're loyalties, their hatreds, who is most amenable to an alliance) is valuable as hell.

Ya Barristan would just laugh quietly to himself out of sadistic enjoyment. But it's Dany's wedding day and she hasn't had the shits that make her go hardcore dragon yet. Also this is the TV adaption so the stadium isn't big and Tyrion isn't wearing a helmet because important characters can't wear helmets on TV. Agreed, through most of the last book she's actually starting to make things somewhat better (if not necessarily better than before she came along), but all her Westerosi friends don't understand or trust the locals and convince her it's not working.

Anyone else actually dreading the next series of the show coming out? I feel fatigued with this series at this point because it's been at a plot standstill for basically 15 years. I really don't want to turn the asoiaf story part of my brain on for another 10 weeks. I can't help it, I will watch it, I'm just so not in the mood this time around.

Sorry I'm sure this has already been discussed, but was most of the stuff from that World of Ice & Fire book just made up for the purpose of that book? It's a fun read and really cool to hear about the places we'll probably never see in the books but it feels like a shame that it probably won't get used for anything. Reading all about giant apes and Asshai and all the hosed up poo poo going on makes Westeros seem kinda boring

In my head, when I think of Asshai I see cherry-blossoms-and-moonlight Japan. Actually don't care Asshai will be the setting of Okami now and always

The underlying idea behind those places is that they likely are not as fantasical as the book makes them sound. Westeros comes off boring because the Maester has detailed historical accounts of what happened on the continent for the last 500 years, and he easily knows how to pick apart hearsay from actual facts. As the book moves farther away from Westeros though, the author no longer has any first hand information about the locations he is describing and is literally just repeating every sailor tale, and legend that ever mentions the place. It' likely looking at how continental Europe described exotic locales before merchants started sailing to those places in mass.

^^ That's very true. I suppose it's just more of a novelty. It'd be nice to have some stories set in those areas though because the geography and wildlife etc are pretty different to Westerosvisceril posted:In my head, when I think of Asshai I see cherry-blossoms-and-moonlight Japan. It's pretty much described as a gigantic (the book says you could fit Kings Landing Old Town and a bunch of other cities in there and still have loads of room) black hellhole with noxious water and no mounts because they just die there due to the air, and it's full of every king of hosed up necromancer mage type guy you can think of. But it's crammed with gold and gems so people make the effort to trade there, despite the actual population being incredibly small for such a vast place. There's also no knowledge on who built it and how long it's existed. Apparently there's demons all sorts of monsters in the mountains around it too. But as Anonymous Zebra said, it's practically all hearsay.

I can't help it, I will watch it, I'm just so not in the mood this time around. yeah. And although I have a hardened exterior, it makes me pretty sad that I have to get the TV ending instead of the book ending. Once I get the TLDR version, I don't know if I will really be able to slog through the books. Not just the reading.. but the endless waiting. Once I know that Jon Snow is really the king of the iron throne and was swapped at birth with Theon ( the real son of Lyanna and Rhaegar ) ... will I still give a poo poo about the fatman's endless excuses? Will I really take the time and read the final book when it is published 15 years from now? loving think about that. There are 3 more books to go, at least 2 years to the next one, and probably 5-6 years for each additional book. And I think that is a best case scenario. They will probably REMAKE THE TV SERIES before the final book is published. That is how far away that event is.

I'm pretty conflicted about this. On the one hand, despite all the poo poo I give The Gurm, I really want to read the conclusion of the story, and getting it from the show is going to be disappointing. On the other, I realise this way we can at least get an ending and, really, that's all I loving care about now after going on two decades.

My impression of Asshai and the creepy shaded river flowing through mountain clefts that never see the light of day from the worldbook is that Gurm was going for "Magical Chernobyl Exclusion Zone that some mystical dumbfucks decided to go all S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on", hundreds if not thousands of years after the fact.
