You know what really blows my mind about China? The fact that a family can decide to hold back information about a possible terminal illness (cancer) from the patient. For example my girlfriends dad may have stomach cancer. For some reason they think it would be OK to not tell him this and just let him die from it. Starvation from not being able to eat, before the cancer can actually do it.

That's strange to us but if there's one thing that's hella relative it's morals. Different cultures can have way, way different morals, especially about life and death.

I mean yeah if you hate a family member there are ways to gently caress them over in most medical systems. For example, in most American hospitals, you can bring a sick family member and send them into debt for the rest of their life.

I dunno its not really even that, I mean plenty of Americans hate their parents too and would do the same if they were able. I think its just less infrastructure for retaliation (in the legal sense) so the legislators and hospital admins aren't worried about anything other than money. More American than America, when you think about it.

icantfindaname posted:Too late, they already destroyed them all The museum in Lhasa was filled with "peaceful Chinese liberation" this and "glorious revolution" that; there was a huge display of jade that was gifted to Tibet from various emperors I guess before the Chinese decided they wanted that stuff back and came to take it. The other displays were filled with "This is how the peasants live!" and my guide said she grew up in a kitchen exactly like the diorama and had ceremonial clothes just like the mannequins were wearing. It must have been really weird to have your life on display behind glass in a museum. Bhodi fucked around with this message at 19:18 on Jan 26, 2015 |

If you want to see China's National Treasure then you have to go here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Palace_Museum Its in Taiwan... The back story is interesting, I've visited it, Its awesome. Apparently only 1% of the stuff they have is on display the rest is in the hollowed out mountain behind it, including heaps of gold. wildemere fucked around with this message at 20:03 on Jan 26, 2015 |

Yeah I have trouble wrapping my head around that stuff as well. Another example- my waifu is from Taiwan and one of her brothers died in the hospital from septic shock. The crazy thing is that her remaining brother decided it would be best not to tell their father his son had died and she agreed. When the father eventually asked about what happened to his missing son, they said he went on a spiritual journey to Tibet or something like that. When I pressed her about why they would do this, she said they didn't want to give him a heart attack by telling him the truth.
