Romulans in this are basically easy mode. Once you amass a big enough fleet the cloak sneak attack round kills anything anybody will ever throw at you. Especially after crippling the other side with Tal Shiar sabotage turn after turn. Fun times.

Anyway.

Grand Nagus, I submit Rules of Acquisition 3, 45, 62, 125, and 263.

#3 "Never spend more for an acquisition than you have to." If we invest in the Bolians, we will also have to invest in the Sheliak for expansion. Whereas investing in the Sheliak solely will give us the necessary expansion without needing to invest in the Bolians.

#45 "Expand or die." We should favor expansion over the safe bet.

#62 "The riskier the road, the greater the profit." We can always fall back on the sure thing with the Bolians, if we are rebuffed by the Sheliak.

#125 "You can't make a deal if you're dead." If we allow the Sheliak's hostility to continue, they might attack us. It's better to show them that they can't live without our goods.

#263 "Never allow doubt to tarnish your lust for latinum." Those Ferengi who say we should take the safer route are no true Ferengi at all.

The best course of action is to invest in the Sheliak to turn greater profits from their larger population, use their star system as a more effective springboard, and reduce the risk of attack, while keeping the Bolians as a fallback.

As has been stated, latinum is an un-replicatable liquid, giving a post-scarcity economy a scarce resource to serve as a base currency. Though, using energy as the base currency would make more sense, since energy is needed for replicators to work.

I had missed that point. Thank you, Daimon inflatablefish, for pointing it out.

As the Rules of Acquisition state, "a Ferengi with no profit is no Ferengi at all" and "anything worth doing is worth doing for profit!" We will terraform their world once we can ensure they are well within our sphere of influence. No reason to develop something that someone else could profit from.

EDIT: I also considered the Trustee option of building another exploration ship, but without the range extension from another planet, we won't be getting very far with that route. Also the large galaxy size means it is unlikely anyone within our current range will be grabbed by another empire. By the time we get the Sheliak happy with us, our single explorer should have everything in range scouted.

The ones I used where all from a wiki and are authentic. I believe most of the rest were too.

There was a non-canon book out out of the rules but it intentionally did not say they were the last and writers continued to make them up through Voyager and Enterprise.

This world looks very scary....

Let's Hope the Romulans don't show up and Slime Porn causes Problems (Turns 8-32)

Turn 8

Greetings friends. Your input is appreciated and we will move forward with plans to bring the Sheliak into the Alliance.

Our colony ship will move to Beltane to begin preparing it for habitation and the creation of new markets. The explorer will explore that pretty blue star.

For the Sheliak we need to find a way to break through their strange fear of communicating with us. I am dispatching a trade representative to the Shelia system now with recently acquired copies of the holosuite program Bolian Love Slave Volumes 1 to 7. Though Volume 5 if my personal favorite I hope they will find something to whet their appetite.

We are also contacting the Bolians to ask them to agree to further economic exchanges. We will not spend any latinum on this.

Turn 10

Not only have the Bolians rejected our overtures the Sheliak have not responded to our initial investment. They reported that there was too much blue in the programs. Perhaps giving them the extended edition was a mistake. It will require more latinum then we have to sway them.

We have found the Triacus system. It is a small system with little room for development but it does sport dilithium When we need more we will need to develop this world. More importantly our sensors have picked up the ships of a starfaring race near that yellow star. Finally a species who can deliver their latinum directly to us.

Turn 11

Our explorer has reported in that the spotted ship is a colony vessel and is terraforming planets in the Delos system.

They claim to be from something called the Romulan Star Empire.

Their technology appears to be comparable to our own.

Odd to hit another empire this early on a large map.

They claim to be isolationists but that is just another way of trying to hound us out of their markets. I assign our Market Troubleshooters to head into action.

70% of our operatives will continue to defend our trade borders while the rest will find out more about the Romulan economy.

Turn 13

We have enough people and ships to establish another trade route. We will begin smuggling to the Sheliak immediately.

Turn 14

We begin construction of a new colony ship as reports come in that the Romulans have colonized Delos.

You can guess at a few things by how territory is claimed. The green shading is Romulan space. That it seems to go around the blue star suggests there is a minor race there. I would love to make contact but my ships do not have the range.

Our scientists have developed new ways of harnessing energy using wasteful inefficient wind

Wind Turbines? Seriously? In a society with the power needs the Star Trek series shows? We have improved power buildings which we will upgrade when we have a chance. Right now Ferenginar is building colony ships. Wind Turbines are good because they provide power without any need for population but only certain worlds can build them and Ferenginar does not have one.

Turn 17

The Romulans have contacted us with a request for a pact of non-aggression.

The treaty does not explicitly mention that trade and smuggling are not allowed so we accept.

Non-aggression pacts has set durations. For the duration you cannot enter the space of the other empire without breaking the pact. Different empires react differently to breaking pacts. Usually you take a morale hit for breaking a pact. The Federation and Klingons are hit the hardest. The Romulans and the Ferengi take a minor morale hit and the Cardassians do not seem to care if their leaders break pacts.

Turn 18

Different species react to events differently. The Ferengi get a morale boost for most agreements because they expect it to open new markets.

We meet the Zakdorn. Military strategist extraordinare and players of the game Stratagema which the fools have not even trademarked yet.

The new colony ship must be rushed to the Beltane system system. Our pact with the Romulans means these systems are available on a first come basis and we must develop Beltane quickly. A troop transport is being built to establish a trade outpost on Beltane so we can send the second colony ship to Triacus. We must claim the dilithium before the Romulans do.

I have also discovered that trade with the Sheliak and the Bolians is nothing compared to the advantages of trading with the Zakdorn and the Romulans. A smuggling line to Romulas must be established immediately. Perhaps they like chubby blue women. If not, we will have to create the demand somehow. These holosuite programs are not going offload themselves.

Turn 20

Our Explorer has found the Kaldra system, a ripe source for development once we can get ships in range. Our Explorer will continue to explore the eastern portion of what will soon join our Alliance.

Turn 22

Our Troop Transport is finished and is ordered to move to Beltane at once.

The Ferenginar system is fully developed and we need more machining guilds to reach maximum productivity.

Turn 24

Good news from our scientists:

Soon we will upgrade our grower's markets and put many of our agricultural workers out of a job. Then we can rehire them for lower wages doing more menial work.

Rule of Acquisition #211: Employees are the rungs on the ladder of success. Don't hesitate to step on them.

The Subspace Scanner gives us more scanning coverage. A low priority. I will probably upgrade the Grower's Markets as soon as the Machining Guilds are finished.

Turn 25

Beltane is colonized and filled with new markets!

All empires get a morale boost for establishing colonies. It can take a while to build up new colonies. They start with 2 farming structures and that is it. I queue up some machining guilds to build up production and buy the first one. They take 13 turns each until we can get a few built. It is normal to buy up colonies for a while and then let normal production take over later.

Turn 29

Another report from our scientists expands our warp drive capabilities. With this new technology we can build ships suitable for defending commerce and liberating goods from traders that do not deserve them.

This is our first warship though it is a light one. Ferengi ships are generally inferior to comparable classes of enemy ships so generally you want to bring more of them to a fight.

Turn 31

The eastern edge of the Alliance has three new systems. Styris is the best of the bunch while Ariannus and Tycho are sub-par.

Our outpost has also detected that the Sheliak have constructed three raiding ships.

Turn 32

The Sheliak were so offended by the copy of Sludge Monster Orgy we sent them that they declared war. Cretins, the creatures looked just like them. The scene where the sludge monster of pure evil eats the pink-skinned security officer from the rape gang planet was particularly erotic. Remember Rule of Acquisition #34: War is good for business.

Undoubtedly those ships are intended to destroy Ferengi commerce. They must be subjugated and brought under the rule of the Ferengi Collections Bureau to pay for the cost of this conflict.

Our intelligence network has found that the Romulans are also trading to their north and there is another star system within their space.

This basically means that both of those systems are minor empires.

I call an emergency conference. We must deal with this situation.
________________________________________________________________________________________

So Daimons, what do you think?

Expansion Fund Trustees: They propose the constuction of an outpost at Ferenginar and backing it with a few light raiders in the hopes that the Sheliak will attack and give us the defensive advantage. Meanwhile they want to bring the Zakdorn closer to the Alliance through liberal use of bribes. They want the Explorer ship to head to galactic north of the Romulans first to explore new trade opportunities.

Aggressive Growth Stock Holders They propose the construction of 4 raiders followed by troop transports with the entirety of the Ferenginar economy to defeat the Sheliak fleet and occupy their planet so we can extract war reparations for the next ten generations. Hopefully the Sheliak live for a long time. They also propose sending our Explorer ship to immediately scout the minor races near the Romulans to determine if they can be won over to the support of the Alliance.

Commerce Authority They believe the Sheliak war to be mostly a bluff and unprosecuteable without the Sheliak building more ships and troop transports. They believe the treasury should be spent to rush development of our own colonies and to rush colonization of Styris to expand further east before serious prosecution of the war. They believe the Explorer ship should explore further to the north. Attempts to end the war should be pursued and if they fail raiders should be built.

Once again, I must support the Aggressive Growth Stock Holders. The Sheliak took our money and repaid us with violence, never has the 285th Rule of Acquisition seemed more true. An aggressive policy to end the Sheliak threat would be prudent, and the prospect of reparations sounds delightful.

I say we should follow the Expansion Fund Trustees. We should not ignore the threat of Sheliak, but always remember the corollary to Rule of Acquisition #34: "War is good for business ... but only from a distance, the closer to the front lines, the less profitable it gets." Rather than take the fight to Sheliak, force them come to us, so that any fighting will be our terms.

If the Zakdorn can be convinced to join us, they may even be of help in the fight against the Sheliak.
