Wouldn't make a difference in this encounter. Trust me, even a party of 5 Protectors will wipe if they get blindsided by 3 Petaloids. That's an enemy mob you rarely encounter even on the 20th floor. 4th Stratum has some seriously nasty surprises tied to events. To return to comments I made earlier, I prefer this one to Winter Grounds not because it's easier but because it's less tedious. (I really did not enjoy looking for the Ice Flowers on B12F, among other things.)

Not even the best party would have survived a Petaloid blindside at this point. You can worry about the party (or not) when we get to the 2nd half, because that's when things really get hairy. :unsmigghh:

I might as well ask the thread something, since what I'm asking will affect what you'll see first for a couple of updates. Remember all those locked doors? Pretty soon, we'll get the ability to unlock them. Some of them are just hiding treasures, while others are hiding secret areas, like that one in the 3rd Stratum. There's even a quest that requires us to go to one of them. I'll be bringing in my own party for those since the enemies will be the same, but the FOEs are different. I'll be sure to show them off at some point, so what I'm asking is which one do you want to see first? The secret areas? Or the rest of the Stratum?

So I've discovered that I've spewed out a bunch of misinformation earlier in the thread, so I might as well go and correct that now.

For one thing, the Dark Hunter's Ecstasy does not increase the chance of an enemy recovering from a bind, so it's actually a really good skill. Oh sure, the Bait skills are nice, but when an enemy is completely bound, they're not gonna be doing much, so Ecstasy is the better skill to use in those situations. The base chance of recovery (different from the base chance of inflicting a status effect) is 40% for Sleep and Paralysis, 30% for Confusion and Terror, 25% for Poison, and 20% for everything else. The recovery formula from a status effect/bind is Base Chance * ((10+LUC)/(3*LVL)). This applies to both your party and the enemies. So the higher leveled you are/the stronger the enemy is, the harder it is to recover from a disable. Although it's harder to get hit with a status effect/bind at that point so it's kind of a trade off. Status effects and binds cannot be recovered from on the 1st turn they're inflicted. For every turn that passes, including the turn the disable was first inflicted, an extra 10% chance to recover is added to the recovery chance. This means that if you're using the Troubadour's Recover song, you only need to level it up to 4 to recover from status effects on the next turn, and even that's overkill.

The Alchemist's "weapons" actually do a decent amount of damage, moreso than the strongest weapon in the game. The real problem with them is that other classes have slightly stronger damage skills. Analysis actually keeps the damage of their Tier 2 spells somewhat relevant in the postgame. Megido is a pretty bad spell that's only useful in a few situations. Their real weakness is that they can't use their spells over and over since the TP costs on them are huge, and that they have no utility. The high TP costs are really what's keeping Alchemists from being a decent class to use. Cursecut+Transfer won't be enough to keep up their TP in the postgame.

Beasts are actually much stronger physical damage dealers than Ronin since Rampage is the best physical damage skill in the game. Loyalty just turns them into a gigantic glass cannon, which is why Ronin are used over them most of the time. Dark hunters are also stronger physical damage dealers than Ronin since their strength gains are similar, and their skills have much higher damage modifiers. A Ronin and a War Magus are probably the weak links of the cookie cutter RDW/GH party.

Force gains actually work this way instead of the way I listed in the Force update.
-Defending, using a skill, attacking an enemy, taking damage from an enemy, killing an enemy: +2
    -Using the attack command: +1
-Using an item, switching, dodging an attack, attempting to escape: +0
    -Successfully escaping: -5
And there's probably a bunch of other stuff I've missed. Now I'm gonna have to clean up/redo some earlier updates and class discussions. Maybe I should just scrap this LP.

This time we won't kick the rock.

There is always the risk that you may miss the rock, lose your balance, and fall... You shake your head. There's certainly no time to idly kick rocks on your urgent quest.

For the record, this event is only a guaranteed blindside if you say yes. I just got unlucky when I said no in the last update.

PC-88 Version

Petaloid
HP: 316
AT: 35
DF: 39
Exp: 2835
Skills: Petals, Sleeper
Item Drops:
-Common: Hazard Eye - 1 needed for Thorn Rod. 5 needed for Risk Claw. 1 needed for the quest Dinner for one.
--A bulb that extrudes vines in search of prey.
-Rare: N/A
-Conditional: Hazard Bud - Kill with Instant Death. 1 needed for Safeguard. 1 needed for the quest The sorcery-reflecting lens.
--A dangerous bud, cut before it could blossom.
Description: A deceptively sweet-smelling flower whose aroma puts unlucky humans to sleep.
Weakness: Fire (150%)
Resistance: Immune to Sleep

Petaloids are an enemy that no one likes. They've been in every game, and they're always an unwelcome sight. They were kind of annoying in the first game, but not that dangerous by themselves since all they could really do was put you to sleep. They got buffed in this game, and gained an AOE Cut attack that hits for a moderate amount of damage. Sleeper has a really high chance to put your party members to sleep, and pretty much what they'll use on the first turn. When one of your party members is asleep, they'll use Petals, which hits for a lot of damage on sleeping targets. If you get blindsided by two or more Petaloids, well I hope you've saved recently. They got nerfed hard in EO4 and are significantly easier to deal with there.

: Okay, you have to be careful around Petaloids because they can-

: What was that?

: ...Never mind.

Ah, sweet catharsis.

PC-88 Version

You get this notice after each item for that quest. I have the others in storage, so I'll fetch those later.

: That should be all the ingredients.

: But what kind of dinner uses these as ingredients? They're all poisonous!

: Maybe we should have Cass look into this later.

I leveled up Cure 2 since the combat Medic build wasn't really working out. Caduceus ended up dealing the same amount of damage as a single Ricochet bullet. Which would be a 125% damage attack. Caduceus has a 430% damage modifier. Well that experiment was worth a try anyway.

This is the spot you need to go to for Playing Cupid III.

Each particle of sand glistens brightly, as if it were a drop in an ocean of gems. The sight reminds you of the quest you undertook at the bar... You agreed to search for a mineral that crystallizes into the shape of a rose. This sandy area could be just the place to begin your search. You consider investigating further in the hopes of finding something.

: Does this not look like a good spot to look for that Wood Rose?

: This spot? Of all places?

: Might as well start somewhere. Maverick. Aliara. Keep an eye out for monsters.

You stand around the ridge, post a lookout, and split up to sift through the sand. To your chagrin, however, the sand is fairly deep... It won't be easy to find anything here. As the search progresses, you at last feel a hardened object under your spade.

: I found something!

Taking care not to lose it, you pry around the area to dig it up.

: What the hell is this?

: That... doesn't look like a rose.

: Maybe if you look at it this way... Nope.

You wince at the hideous sight of... whatever it is that you hold. With a lot of imagination and a fair amount of myopia, it might resemble a rose, but... You throw it away in disgust, and wonder if you should bother to continue digging here.

You remain wary of digging into unknown sand... Anything could be hiding beneath the surface. Putting your own safety first, you leave the place untouched.

So this quest is another luck based thing. You have to keep saying yes until you find the Wood Rose. I have no idea what the point of this is really. I don't know if you can find anything other than the black clump, because that's all I found until I finally got the Wood Rose. If you say yes, the text just repeats until the part where you find something.

: Ah! I have struck something!

: Now that's a rose!

It's resemblance to an organic, blooming rose is uncanny... Having found what you sought, you cover it in a cloth and carefully store it away.

: So, you think this will finally get the girl to like him?

: No.

: Yeah, same here.

And here's the stairs.

: Already?

: We barely explored this floor!

: Calm down, there's a path this way. We haven't explored all of it yet.

Right over here is... a dead end. No secret passage or anything.

: That was a waste of time.

: There is a part of the floor we didn't explore yet.

PC-88 Version

: Bellamy you know what overkill is, right?

: No.

Windsnip
HP: 317
AT: 35
DF: 35
Exp: 2455
Skills: Slash
Item Drops:
-Common: Razor Edge - 1 needed for Gale Whip and Wind Arm. 2 needed for Wind Claw. 15 needed for Knout. (Whip.)
--Windsnip arm that looks like a sharp scythe.
-Rare: N/A
-Conditional: Wind Blade - Kill with Volt. 1 needed for Volt Gun.
--A Windsnip's arm that can slice the breeze.
Description: Few notice this blazing fast creature until its blade-like arms have already struck.
Weakness: Fire (150%)
Resistance: N/A

New enemy, and not exactly a threatening one. Slash is a Cut attack that deals some splash damage. You do want to get the drop since the Volt Gun is needed for a quest. No not the drop itself, the weapon it unlocks. You'll see what I mean later.

PC-88 Version

The left path holds... yet another dead end.

: Okay, I guess there really is nothing left to explore. Huh, that's kind of weird.

: Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!

Fedot's close to doubling his TP pool.

I'm serious, this is all we can explore on the 17th floor.

: You guys SURE you didn't miss anything?

: I'm in no mood to start up that line of conversation again.

: Likewise.

: Okay, just what the hell happened back in the 3rd Stratum?

: Nothing important.

: If you say so.

And we're at the Geomagnetic Pole already.

: This seems too convenient.

: Well we haven't explored the whole floor yet. Speaking of, which way should we go? Left or right?

: By left, do you mean my left or the map's-

: East or west?

: East?

: Sure, whatever. It's not like we have a clue where to go.

: That pile of leaves looks a bit suspect. Gilbert, YOU should investigate!

: OW! Me? No, I insist that YOU take a look!

: Quit shoving!

: You stop shoving!

: Fight fight fight fight fi-

: I would if Gilbert's wasn't crushing it!

: Fedot... please... get off of me.

: Whoa, sorry guys.

: Phew! Thought I was gonna- oh crap. Look over there.

: Another one of those pumpkin creatures. It doesn't appear to be looking this way. Shall we?

: Oh, I'm ready to fight!

PC-88 Version

Flygourd
Type: Invisible
Behavior: Line of sight
Aggressive: Yes
HP: 1470
AT: 48
DF: 48
Skills: Pain, Dance
Item Drops:
-Common: Lilac Vine - See Wrathbud bio.
-FOE: Small Bone - 1 needed for Fairy Boot. 1 needed for the quest A diviner's tools.
--Small bone fragment with a mysterious aura.
-Conditional: Curse Vine - Kill while fully bound. 3 needed for Dominator (Whip.)
--Cylindrical, boneless body of a pumpkin monster.
Description: A pumpkin monster that lures travelers in with hand-like appendages in order to assault them.
Weakness: N/A
Resistance: Physical (0%), Fire (0%)

Meet the next member of the gourd family, the Flygourd! Like the Trigourd, they resist everything except Ice and Volt. Pain is the same AOE Fire skill the Trigourd had. The exact same AOE Fire skill. Like, it's super weak at this point. Their regular attack is far more threatening. Dance on the other hand is really annoying. It hits everyone and will place one random bind on each party member. Other than that, they're not really threatening. They're just a nuisance. But, this is an important FOE. Mainly because of the conditional drop.

The conditional drop requires you to kill the Flygourd while it has every single body part bound. You pretty much have to use the Dark Hunter's Force Skill on it to get it, but if Dance manages to bind their arms before they can get it off, oops! They just wasted all that Force! And you don't need 1, but 3 of the Curse Vines in order to unlock the weapon. Why am I going into so much detail about this? Because the conditional drop unlocks the Dark Hunter's ultimate weapon. And it makes them skyrocket in usefulness. You really want to get this weapon for them.

: :black101: HA- it's still standing?

Eschaton's starting to peak here. Alchemists peak early and just never really get better after that. Their damage isn't terrible, but maintaining one in the postgame is a lot more trouble than it's worth because of their super high TP costs.

: Nope.

Like I said, their regular attack is the only real threatening move they have.

So the way the Flygourd FOE patterns work, is that they'll be looking in a certain direction (and you can't tell where since they're invisible) and if you walk in their line of sight, they'll turn aggressive and start chasing you around.

PC-88 Version

Here's the other Chop point on the floor. A bit risky to get to since it's in front of a Flygourd, and being ambushed here would be terrible.

: Oh, there's a way out!

: But we didn't find anything on the other side.

: Must be a one way passage.

: How does that even work?

: I have no idea.

So here's what the 17th and 18th floors are about. They're interconnected, and act like one mega floor instead of 2 different floors in terms of level design. A few floors in the EO series act like that from time to time. Most of the 17th floor is normally inaccessible, so you have to fall from a pitfall on the 18th floor, which are marked by a pile of leaves, in order to get there. Some areas also have these one way passages so you can get out. This is also the first time the EO games actually mark a shortcut. The rest of the games start doing that from an earlier point.

: WHY ME!?

And sometimes a character will die because the RNG decided to screw them over. Let's get back to the 18th floor and see what's down the other path.

Oh whoops! Almost ran into a Voltking.

PC-88 Version

Oh hey, two new enemies. And they're about to die.

Big Moth
HP: 297
AT: 33
DF: 37
Exp: 2678
Skills: Scales, Feather
Item Drops:
-Common: Plum Quill - 1 needed for Pattisa (Sword) and Morion. 5 needed for Purple Rod. 7 needed for Lush Beads. 1 needed for the quest The item trade III.
--Surprisingly lightweight Big Moth wings.
-Rare: N/A
-Conditional: Dark Lymph - 1 needed for Sting Maul
--Rare lymphs found in moth wings.
Description: This dangerous moth's glands secrete poison, and its wings can stir up powerful gusts.
Weakness: Volt (150%)
Resistance: N/A

Big Moths are a support monster, and they're not a threat at all. Scales is an AOE move that tries to apply Confusion to everyone. Except it has a really low chance of actually working. At best it'll tag one or two people after several failed tries. Feather is just an attack that hits harder. These things aren't a threat, but you don't want to let them stick around for too long if they're not alone. By the way, running into a solo Big Moth is a guaranteed blindside.

Diatrima
HP: 324
AT: 36
DF: 36
Exp: 2169
Skills: Peck
Item Drops:
-Common: Dew Beak - 1 needed for Heaven Bow. 10 needed for Seven Whip.
--Large, metallic beak with a white band.
-Rare: Celestine - See 3rd Stratum Mine info.
-Conditional: N/A
Description: Once its gigantic mouth clamps onto its prey, it will not let go.
Weakness: Stab (150%)
Resistance: N/A

Trash mob. The only thing notable about them is that Peck can hit really hard. That's all there is to them.

:rip:

: Ah, excellent teamwork Aliara. Slap my hand!

: But I hate you.

: :(

And Bellamy learns Megido. Deals a decent amount of untyped damage to an enemy. It'll be handy if I don't have Aliara to Dampen any enemies.

PC-88 Version

This will be handy for the upcoming boss fight. Assuming I don't get a party that will completely destroy it in two turns.

A Voltking patrols the area down here.

Taking the left path brings you to this Take point.

Take:
Common: Crabapple - 1 needed for Medica III. 3 needed for the quest In the cold, white night.
-Sweet-smelling red fruit that recovers some HP.
Uncommon: Cordyceps - 1 needed for Stun Gas.
-Mushrooms used to restore some TP.
Rare: Volt Fruit - 1 needed for Cut Jar, Stab Jar, Bash Jar. Limited Stock.
-Combustible fruit that activates talismans.

Unlike Stratum 3's Take point, this one isn't all that important.

I somehow spent so much time here that it turned night. Oh, and there's a shortcut we can't get through.

I kind of hope that I max this out soon.

It would be a simple matter to snap the branch and take it.

You easily take the branch with the flower, but there are more branches you could also reach.

: Do you think we could get more? I see more of those branches.

: Wow, someone's greedy.

: Oh, quiet.

You easily take the branch with the flower, but there are more branches you could also reach.

You take the branch with the flower, then suddenly hear heavy breathing behind you!

: Guys! Turn around!

You spin to find a beast whose habitat has just been fouled by your actions! It rears up to attack... You must draw your weapons and defend yourselves!

PC-88 Version

: :geno: Is that it? Let me handle this.

: Oh my! :stare:

: That's quite the aim. :stonk:

: When did you learn to do that!?

: Eh, I've known how to do that a long time before coming here. Took me a while to pull that off again. Guns are pretty heavy, they're not like bows at all.

And sometimes the RNG works in my favor. You can get 3 Bloom Woods easily here. Saying no just has you leave early with no consequences.

PC-88 Version

: CANNONBALL!

: Should we go after her?

: ...What the hell do you think!? Yes, let's leave a 12 year old to fend for herself down there, I'm sure that's a great idea!

: I was just asking a question.

: Ask better questions next time.

PC-88 Version

: Let the world end now. It matters not to me.

: Don't put me on the front next time.

: I can't make any promises.

Another Flygourd in this area. You're supposed to bait it and then juke around the pillars. Of course that's not how I roll.

PC-88 Version

I don't feel like dealing with this thing since my party's running low on supplies and TP.

So everything's going well so far, until I make one fatal mistake.

: lets go hit him with our sticks :downs:

: yay sticks!

I accidentally turned on autobattle. And didn't notice for 3 turns. :downsbravo: I don't even know how I managed to pull that off. My own stupidity surprises me sometimes.

: he didnt like my stick :gibs:

: i don't think throwing my stick worked :gibs:

: my stick was insufficient :gibs:

: What the ever loving hell just happened?

: I think we all came down with a case of the stupid. Somehow.

And then I finally realized what happened when I saw 3 dead people on the screen.

PC-88 Version

This is what the Trigourd was guarding. Not really that useful.

Here's the one way passage out. There's another area to the right, but I'm low on supplies and well everything right now. I'll explore there next update.

: We're not staying here, are we?

: With three people out of commission? No way.

My disdain for you all knows no bounds.
Floor 18 Town Dialogue

PC-88 Version

: You must be here to--

: Oh, is this about killing that rampaging monster?

: Mm? Slay the monster? No, no, it's not that sort of task. As I said, the Duke's daughter is adamantly against the idea. We have lately found an expert on the subject in the central area of the 18th floor. He knows much about the forest denizens... His expertise has been useful to us in the past. I would like you to meet him and ask his advice on what to do with the monster from before. They say he collects rare guns as a hobby... Perhaps you could take him one such firearm as a gift to curry his favor.

: Do you know what kind of guns he likes?

: You could try crafting a Volt Gun of Malachite and a material from the fourth Stratum.

: And just what is this material we need?

: Alas, my aging brain can't quite remember what it is... I'm relying on you.

That's the quest dialogue for the quest I took last update. You need a Wind Blade, which are dropped from the Windsnips, to get the Volt Gun. Let's get the regular dialogue.

: Do you remember the protector you met once in the Labyrinth? One of Guild Beowulf's members.

: Haven't met the guy myself, but I heard about him.

: Oh, Flausgul? Yeah, I remember him. Huh. It's been such a long time since then.

Now that I check, I posted those updates around 3 to 4 months ago. Wow, it's been a while, huh?

: Though he has passed on, the people of Lagaard still talk of his bravery. Your guild is the center of attention now... but try not to follow in his footsteps.

: Thanks, but I don't think you need to worry.

: I expect great things from you while you stay in High Lagaard.

PC-88 Version

: We just came to check up on you. As usual.

: Ah... well, I was just thinking about something. That fairy tale about the explorers's souls being taken to the floating castle... Long ago, when the Labyrinth was discovered, I was amongst the first explorers.

: Did you believe in the legend back then?

: My only thought was for combat and protecting the squad. Such legends merely bored me. Even then, though, I remember some sort of scroll that the Minister held... It had a picture of a winged man carrying people into the flying castle. I thought at the time it could have something to do with the legend... that it might be true. That's all the advice I have for you. Never underestimate the Labyrinth.

: So that's how...

PC-88 Version

: When yeh first came here, nobody knew yeh... and now everyone does!

: I've made a huge mistake.

: What was that?

: Don't yeh remember? Yeh had no idea what to do next! I thought yeh looked a mite scrawny to me, but... Just look at yeh now! Yeh're one of the strongest guilds in town! I still can't believe how quickly yeh got that strong... Well, we're all counting on yeh lot! G'luck with everything!

It's been 5 months since the start of the LP, I could've been quicker.

: A-Ahh... Yeh're back. I meant to talk to yeh about that request...

: Yeah, don't worry. We found the Wood Rose!

: Wait, yeh found it!? I hate to be the one to tell yeh, but the request was cancelled.

: And just why is that?

: Yeh're not gonna believe this... I barely believe it myself! Those two are getting married!

; What!? Why!? How!?

: After I sent yeh on yer way, that tosser came in, and I gave him a piece of my mind. “Have yeh no pride!?” I said to him. “All a real man needs to woo a woman is his own body!” And what happens then? The tosser comes back, lady in hand! He thanked me for giving him the guts to come out and propose to her. And listen to this... She'd already fallen for him the moment she saw him! What does she see in him!? That's what I'd like to know! According to her, she didn't want any fancy gifts, just an honest display of love. I couldn't believe my ears! She didn't want anything!? Does such a lass really exist!? But sure enough... That's how the request was cancelled. I feel terrible for yeh lot. ...... Just between you and me... We're mates, right? Well, I've a proposition of my own. If yeh don't need this rose thingy, I feel bad enough that I'll buy it off yeh.

: Oh my, is there a lady you have an eye on?

: I thought you said you didn't need a Wood Rose. I guess I was wrong.

: No, that isn't why! Yeh're way off base! I just feel bad for yeh lot, it all... Look, I'll just buy it, okay!? Here's yer money, and all sales are final. Now go home already! Until next time...

You've been doing all these, right? Because this is part of an important questline.

: Ah, there yeh are! I've got a job I know yeh can't refuse.

: What makes you say that?

: Well, yeh can't blame me for saying so when yeh've already taken two jobs from the client! It's more work for the shop. Go to Sitoth Trading to get the details, as usual. G'luck!

We're not taking this one. I need a level 50 Ronin to get the maximum reward.

The next in the Queen piece quest.

: Ahhh, there yeh lot are! It's another quest about those golden chess pieces. I found a guy who has a piece, and I doubt yeh'll be surprised at this... It's that doc from the Lagaard Hospital! He's got the King! That's one of the most vital pieces in the game! I don't know where he got it, but he says he'll be willing to part with the piece. What are yeh waiting for? Go over there and see him!

This is a start to another important questline.

: Hmm, now what qu- Fedot. You should take a look at this.

: Hmm? What's go- Cass? What's this quest about?

: Ahhh, how're things? I've got an unusual client for yeh... Guild by the name of Esbat. Old member of theirs asked for yeh special.

: To be honest, I'd be fine if I never saw you again.

: Shh. Go on.

: But now I have a favor to ask... And it's clear to me that only you can do it. You don't know how much I'd appreciated it if you helped me out on this...

: Well, spill it. What do you want?

: Ms. Artelind disappeared into the Labyrinth the day after you defeated the ice queen... Before, we had a sort of mutual understanding with the monsters on that floor. We promised to protect them... And I believe breaking that promise distressed Ms. Artelind. A guard said he saw her around the 9th floor, on the second Stratum. We can't convince her to come back. You're the only hope our benighted guild has left.

: The second Stratum should be child's play for yeh lot. Won't yeh help the poor man out?

: ...Yeah, we'll do it.

: Why? Didn't those two try to kill you?

: I guess it wouldn't be right to not help him.

: I didn't ask you.

: Well, she's right. That's pretty much the reason.

This quest might seem a bit simple, but we can't complete it right now. The area we need to go to is currently inaccessible to our party. We need to get farther in the 4th Stratum before we can complete this quest.

: You took another one of our requests? Thank you so much! My father is working on a new weapon, and we need materials to finish the project. This time, we need... Ummmm... 1 Plum Quill! It sounds hard to get... I hope it's not too much to ask. I'll be here in the store, so come by and sell it to me when you find it! We're really counting on you!

: Ah, we have a Plum Quill right here!

: When he did pick it up?

: Oh, he was just here to pick them up! Didn't... Didn't you see him?

: Uh, no?

: What a shame... I'd love for him to meet you all, but he just won't come outside. I'll make sure to introduce you to him next time. It would be wonderful if you all got along! My father is always telling me, you know... That the only husband for me is someone like you! He says only they can take over the shop. But I can't just force someone to take over here... He's so funny about these things! Oh, I think I hear him calling! Maybe he's finished...? Sorry, I have to go! Thanks so much for everything. I hope we can count on you again!

If you talk to Abigail instead of leaving after you sold everything, she'll say this following line of dialogue for every one of those quests.

: You came about the job, right? I was afraid of that... You already sold us all the materials we needed for our project! I'm so, so sorry. I really mean to go ask Cass to cancel the request... I knew there was something I forgot to do! But since you did complete the request a little early, you can still have the reward! It's over at the bar whenever you want to pick it up. I can't apologize to you enough... I hope you'll still help us next time we ask.

And here's her floor 18 dialogue.

: Um... Here are the cookies I baked for you all. Y-You will try them, won't you?

: COOKIES!? GIMME!

: Settle down Aliara! Save some for the rest of us!

: SCREW YOU! THEY'RE MINE!

: She's just stuffing them down her throat.

: How are they? D-Do they taste all right? I tried some, but... Just tell me what you think before you go!

: MMPH! THEY'RE GREAT! MMPH MMPH!

: Huh, these are pretty good. Thank you.

: How'd it go? Ah, never mind... I don't need to ask. That shop owner never comes out of his workshop, right? But he was here just the other day. He asked me about Firefly, and at first I thought something must have been wrong. But once I started paying attention to the man, it turns out he really likes yeh lot. Yeh're really something, yeh know? Waltz in one day, and get the whole city on yer side. Us plain folk aren't s'posed to favor one guild over another, yeh know... But I'm hardly one to talk, am I? Haw haw haw! Just don't start expecting me to add a gratuity to yer rewards! See yeh next time. Take care of yerselves!

I'll show off all the new equipment at the end of the update.

PC-88 Verison

: You have the King piece, right?

: The golden piece? Oh yes, I heard from the bartender. One of the nobles came in here for treatment of a wound sustained in the Labyrinth. It was a difficult procedure, but I saved his life. He gave me this piece in thanks. I heard you're collecting them, so I posted a request. The patient said as long as I put it to good use, I can do whatever I like with it. And I can't think of a better use for it than giving it to you. This may sound awkward, but... Can you do me a little favor?

: Sure, what do you need?

: There's a patient upstairs, still a little kid. He's very sick, and he's due for radical surgery soon. I heard you've been to the fourth Stratum... Do you know the Gold Quill? It's a shining feather that a large, golden bird on the floating islands drops. It's absorbed so much solar energy that it's known to be able to cure any illness. Which is a myth, of course. If it were true, there'd be no need for doctors or hospitals! But the myth makes it a good placebo, if we gave it to him and explained the effects. Sorry, I guess I've said too much already... I'd like to give him both the Gold Quill and a Rook piece. I've already left the King piece at the bar, so trade in those two things when you find them. Thanks!

The Gold Quill is dropped from an enemy on the 19th floor. Let's see his regular dialogue.

: It's been a long day, and I had a very early start. Has anything happened?

: We reached the 18th floor. That's about it.

: Many guilds who followed you up to the 18th floor come back maimed or worse... When I ask what happened, all they can do is groan in response. But you're okay?

: Other than getting mauled by a pumpkin, yes we're okay.

: Phew... I'm very glad to hear it. If you'll excuse me, I have patients to tend to. Be careful up there, all of you.

: I get dizzy even thinking about how high up that must be. Sometimes when I'm out with my daughter, we look at the tree and guess where you might be. You guys don't look like much, but I know it's a different story in the Labyrinth. I wish I could see you in action... You'd protect me if I went in with you, right?

: Perhaps you could protect yourself? You look fairly strong.

: What!? You think I look strong enough to protect myself!? Oh, nononono! I'm a dainty flower of femininity! How could I fight a monster? Bahahaha!

I go fetch the items for the Dinner for one quest.

: Welcome back! Yer client was just by. I delivered the goods and she were pleased as punch. So, what now? Got any exciting missions in the works?

: Not really. Could you tell us more about what happened when she picked up the ingredients?

: Eh? Well, sure, I s'pose so. She did say she was off to cook his dinner and ran right home.

: Could you look up the ingredients we got for her? Something doesn't seem right about this.

: Fine, if yeh insist, I'll look them up. Now where'd I put it...? Let's see now... Hm... This is the stuff, right? Yeah, says right here in--wait one minute! Dangerous ingredients? H-Hey! That stuff's poisonous! drat... this one, too!? Says it goes right through the bloodstream, making the heart... M-Mother o'...! Wait here! I'll be right back!

Cass leaves and comes back.

: Well!?

: Oi... Thanks for insisting I look that stuff up. The poor blighter nearly died! The woman was round the twist! Just cause she saw hubby walking around town with another girl... She decided to cook up a poison stew! Chills me to the bone...

: :catstare:

: Good thing I put a stop to all that, innit? Though I didn't see what happened next... And I thought this quest'd be boring! Had more excitement than I bargained for... I s'pose domestic disputes can be more dangerous than the Labyrinth beasties, eh? Oh, nearly forgot. Here's the reward... Great job! I'll be counting on yeh!
