I did it, because I was with Okawaru and who cares, but is this a recent addition? I've only ever been asked to give it items before.

It's possible for labyrinths to have multiple metal areas, only one of which contains the exit. (IIRC.)

Just found a weird bug: got shafted down two floors, landed on a staircase, the staircase gets marked as used, (i.e., it's green in console). Maybe I'll submit it but it's so trivial I probably won't bother.

it's already in mantis. I have a patch for it sitting around but I was never able to actually figure out a way to test it

and also someone completely rewrote the stairs code since I wrote that patch, so, welp

No, the loot was literally 12 magical axes of varying quality, but I was already using an executioner's axe of chopping so it was all useless to me. Still, I'd make the same choice again in a heartbeat.

Edit: Do keep in mind I have clarity as a mutation so I believe the sword of Jihad wouldn't berserk me?

Depending on the price it might be profitable to take acquirement and acquire gold, often an unusually strong option when you are in a bazaar. Then you could go do whatever, though of course you could roll poorly. So it depends on the price of the scroll - from learndb the formula is:

Nope! Can still get them at the end of (certain) ice caves provided the ice cave spawns deep enough (elf, shoals/spider/snake/swamp, etc).

Edit: I mean the scroll was 638 pieces and the scroll got me 650 coins.

Double Edit: Is electrocution a good enough brand for a triple sword or should I use my other scroll and gamble on flaming/freezing/vorpal? :stare:

Elec's an amazing brand, the only reason I'd brand away from it is if you're going into postgame and want TSO's holy wrath instead.

Elec isn't really that good on a weapon that doesn't attack fast later on. Plus a lot of nasty stuff is completely immune to electricity so I find the brand pretty underwhelming outside of the earlygame.

VVV Only if it procs, which it doesn't do often on slow weapons. A triple sword is pretty slow until you get it to min delay which takes a lot of skill. My main point against it though is that most really dangerous enemies completely ignore it. Orbs of fire, ancient liches, every single hell and pan lord, etc. If your brand doesn't do anything to the most dangerous enemies you'll face, its not very good. Freezing can be resisted but at least it still does damage to most stuff. Electricity straight up does nothing if its resisted.

It procs on 1/3 of hits for an average of 14.5 damage. He's using a triple sword which does 19 base damage, so if he had the frost brand (which increases damage by 25%) he'd be doing an extra 4.75 damage every turn. What's that over 3 turns (the average to get elec to proc)? 14.25 damage, almost exactly the same. This comparison doesn't take into account stat and skill bonuses to base damage, but if anything it's actually favorable to the frost brand because it's assuming max damage every turn and ignoring elec's ability to skip AC.

Of course, some things resist elec. Some things also resist cold and if their resistance is at least rC++ (such as ancient liches) they'll take no extra damage. Cold is arguably better than elec for postgame (though not by a huge margin) but it's not even the best and a lot of things are different in postgame so who cares. Vorpal would be better than either in Zot:5 but I wouldn't brand away from elec on the offchance I'm going to get lucky and get vorpal.

I *think* all weapon brand additional damage skips AC. I wouldn't bet the rent on it because that poo poo is super-opaque. Elec and frost are both fine brands. Frost is cool in Z:1-4 at least because it slows draconians.
