So what exactly is the net benefit of going from 4x2 chassis to 6x4 chassis? When I read up on this stuff over a month ago, I couldn't find anything super conclusive except that I'd be able to do heavier cargo, and have a harder time tipping over--but I'd be giving up a lot of fuel capacity to do so. Is there anything else I'm missing? Anything that might have changed over the last few updates? Edit: To avoid a double post: Is there any sort of mod that gives a visual warning on your HUD, or say on your GPS, when you're about to approach a speed zone? Yes, although the description says it only works on the default map. There are many others although I don't know how up to date they are.

Luckily, I only have the default map for now. It's likely I'm going to get bored of the gameplay before I tired of the map. Also: so they made a mod in a truck game about making the trains look better? That's amazing.

Looking at ATS previews didn't give me much feel for how expansive the surface streets are. Do they only do the streets leading directly to the factories and terminals? What I really want to know is can I drive a bobtail down Lombard street in SF? I used to drive a tour van and listening to the passengers' assholes bite into the vinyl seats was my favorite part.

Yeah, I put a bar on top of my truck and filled it up with lights, then did the same thing with the brush guard. Now when I turn on the brights at night, it basically looks like the game is playing during the day but mistakenly loaded the nighttime skybox. It's awesome. From looking at one of the videos from their studio, LA and SF certainly looked very expansive, in as much as you can drive around the suburbs and the downtown areas. Not sure about Lombard street but I'm sure we'll find out when they release more info.

What do the different launch options do? 64-bit is obvious, but does choosing OpenGL or DirectX change anything?

grapecritic posted:What do the different launch options do? 64-bit is obvious, but does choosing OpenGL or DirectX change anything? From Google: "OpenGL (Open Graphics Library) is a cross-language, multi-platform application programming interface (API) for rendering 2D and 3D vector graphics. The API is typically used to interact with a graphics processing unit (GPU), to achieve hardware-accelerated rendering." So, think of DirectX being Microsoft's proprietary version of that. Naturally, if you're running a game via Linux or OS X, you don't have DirectX as an option.

DirectX seems to run better than opengl for me, i'm pretty sure the default is directx on windows anyway. Also I found this the most effective tool for blinding everyone http://www.ets2addons.com/mod/hella-luminator-led/

Unfortunately lots of indie devs still cling to OGL for some retarded reason. Maybe it's licensing or something.

If you're small and want to put your game on everything, unless you're using an engine with DX and OGL support built in, it's simpler just to use OGL. Keeps you from having to write and test an engine using both.

I think only the PS4 does and even then, it's a custom wrapper iirc, though that does make porting a whole lot easier.

I was driving cleanly without crashing from the UK to Graz when I peeked at my damage meter about halfway. The truck had 8% damage, and the cargo had 41%! Does anyone know what causes this, or how to prevent it? Is it rain damage or something? Some sort of bug when reloading a save?

Usually this happens because an enemy car rams you from behind or the side. If the cargo is heavy you don't even feel or hear the impact, and because it's them ramming you and not the other way around you don't get a fine that would alert you to the collision. It often happens on highways when changing lanes, especially if you're not doing the sensible thing and driving at 150km/h, and a car either comes from behind and rams you at full speed, or you don't have enough distance to the car in the lane you're entering and hit it with the side/edge of the cargo (even when it IS your fault you don't always get fined). Cargo don't get wear damage like your truck does; it's always caused by impacts. AG3 fucked around with this message at 00:47 on Feb 22, 2015 |

Sometimes the map geometry is hosed up and will cause tons of damage for no apparent reason, too. I had to uninstall a cargo mod because taking the slightest bump gave my cargo 10%+ damage each time.
