i dont actually mind non-intrusive ads that much. nowadays most sites get their ad money from views, not clicks so if their ads are non-intrusive meaning i barely even notice them i don't mind sites getting some ad money from my visit.

There is one web site, every click on page of that site opens new window with some lovely casino ad screaming like crazy or telling me some poo poo about it. You have to turn off adblock on this site so it work properly.

I noticed this the other day. I'll be honest and say I don't mind some ads. The ads that play after youtube videos are fine. It reminds me of those sites with "click to continue", I just slam the back button or close the window. If your site was legitimate there would be none of that poo poo in my face. Well integrated ads are fine, like banners that are designed into layouts, google text ads, advertising backgrounds that don't interfere with content. If an ad obscures or interrupts my content in any way (before/during a video, splash page, anything like that) I just instantly peace the gently caress out. It's messed up that sites like hulu have significantly more intrusive ads, even for paying customers, than free sites. I don't understand who would put up with this crap. Maybe I'm weird, but if I need something then I research the available products that might meet my needs and find the one that seems best in my target price range. I don't think I've ever bought anything from an ad. Maybe I've tried something at a restaurant of some kind due to an ad or some novelty snack. But that's very different from functional items or movies or things like that. Why would I watch a movie or tv show based on a trailer/ad? Why would I buy some dumb product based on an ad? Anyone remember privoxy? That's some old school poo poo from the pre-adblock days. Khorne fucked around with this message at 12:25 on Feb 24, 2015 |

That is if ads are still worth what's paid for them, who knows right? I am okay with ads before Youtube videos, but I am seriously annoyed by those assholes who embed autoplay tv commercials on non-video sites. Hi, I clicked open in new tab so I could read this page when I'm finished with the page I'm on Why Are You Yelling At Me from a background tab?!!? I installed something called FlashBlock for Firefox because Flash brings my computer to its loving knees. Core i7, 24gb of ram, SSD; it doesn't matter. As soon as I installed FlashBlock, I have not had my computer crash once in over a month. Before I installed it, it was like once a week I had to restart from being so slow. It's kind of annoying to use because a lot of times Youtube won't play when I tell it stop blocking but that seriously is somehow still an improvement over not having it. I also just read something that adblock uses a ridiculous amount of resources to run (like it loads a custom style sheet for each site or something? not sure) and that uBlock is the way to go because it blocks ads via hosts/IP or something. Not sure how true it is that uBlock is supposed to be better but I switched and so far so good.

Life is simply better without ads and commercials. You end up with more time to enjoy the things you want and you're less likely (studies kinda prove this) to waste money on things you don't need. gently caress em.
