Turn 1, First Battle

This is going to be difficult to run. Please refer to Ygmir's troop roster, you are deployed from front to back in that order in this format:

3 4

All troops within the Skyranger receive this briefing whilst in motion. All eyes fall upon Trooper Tadashi.

When questioned, he claims he's "Preparing for the night mission of course!"

The satellite map does not reveal much, it's a tad too dark.

In fact, the troops don't see much due to the darkness. If it's possible, I can give any requested information. Your orders can come in any format, and can be as abstract as you want. If you want to separate into groups it'll be easier to handle from an orders point of view.

As a suggestion, try setting the battlescape and geoscape scales to a different value to zoom them out (I use 1/3 for both, but 1/2 is good also).
You could try using the 1.5x and 2x options, but this gives you letterboxing on some resolutions (like 16:9 ones), and the 2x setting makes fonts render weirdly.
You can use Full Display, but I really don't like it (if you use a big resolution like 1600x900, the Geoscape looks like this:

I don't actually know much about old school XCOM so I'm just going to pretend I'm a heavy from new XCOM.

Well it would be if the thread didn't pick superhuman and have several people that have never played the game. I foresee a quick and lethal ending to this, excessive voting aside.

I find that kind of characterisation amusing, given some things that turned up via checking extreme situations. If I remember it right, it turns out Russia will NEVER abandon the X-Com project. Nor can they be turned.

I'll only do this complete "every man for themselves" type battle with squads of complete rookies. I'm aiming for at least one turn a day, and will move for anyone who doesn't submit orders.

That was Grey Hunter's Jutland LP.

My orders are, stick with the heavy weapons guy and provide escort until we find UFO, then I'll stay behind cover (if available) and train my rifle on the entrance, hoping for a reaction shot.

If there is no activity after 3 turns, then I'll walk up to the side of the UFO entrance, prime grenade for 2 turns, then when I have enough turn units left, open door, toss grenade in then hop back into cover.

If there's interest in it, we will run battles this way. That'll allow people to react to what's happening and give more precise orders. That'll also make the battles take less time.

Throw smoke grade just in front of ranger exit ramp. If I have room and move moves available, move to the base of the ramp in the smoke.

Next turn, throw a flare as far as I can directly to the rear of the ranger and another due east as far as possible, sightlines and movement permitting.

You are aware that the Skyranger is too durable for any of our conventional weapons to have an effect?

If we try to bomb it, killing the pilot, we'll just ensure the aliens have access without impediment. If we simply have the last survivor evacuate, we can ensure we retain our equipment, saving millions in the long run.

I was not aware of this! Why are our honorable troops not equipped with armor made of this material? How could this organization send our troops so unprepared into combat?
