burger time posted:It's a really good game. I'd offer to play with you but not sure I trust the transatlantic connection. yeah I wouldn't either, but I've got a steady enough group to play it with and I can probably badger people at dustloop if I really need to. Between us we have one Vatista main, one Merkava main, one Eltnum/Akatsuki main and I main Linne. I have an obscenely hard time getting in on the former and it's remarkably frustrating and still kind of a hard time getting in on Merkava, but when I actually manage to get in on either they have a tough time not getting blown up by my pressure and repeatedly combo'ed to death which leads to this wonderful situation where everyone hates everyone's characters which is probably the sign of a well-balanced game. seriously though if anyone here plays the game and has advice for Linne v. Vatista I'd love to hear it because I just get slowly burned out trying to get close and if she reads correctly and lands a flash kick I am right back to square zero. It is a really good game still though, regardless of how goddamn frustrating it can sometimes be.

Periodiko posted:Right, there's no "trade-off" because the whole point of the system is to stabilize the personal experience of the player regardless of actual lag. Yes, you will still see lag, moves will come out slightly faster because the game will subjectively skip start-up frames of moves to account for lag, but the point is that this is hugely preferable to having literally the entire game for both players be delayed an arbitrary, unpredictable amount. That choppiness is the trade-off. Since it impacts gameplay, GGPO lets you choose the experience you want in that situation, but high latency feels like poo poo either way and is heavily dependent on the opponents you're finding (e.g., a dedicated playerbase for a niche game versus millions of MKX fans on bad wifi).

He looks fun to use, but a little too Dark Horse for me. I'm still sad VTS is gone. That made Marduk interesting.

I think Gigas is cool, but the only time I ever tried to learn tekken I went on tekken-zaibatsu trying to learn the basic system mechanics and got bogged down in the number of ways you can be knocked down. There's like loving 30 different ways you can be knocked down or something and they all have different wakeup options and that's when I realized this probably, realistically, wasn't gonna happen.

Just play games, hit buttons, have fun, look up advice on whatever blows you up and go from there. Trying to cram all that poo poo in without just playing the game is like trying to learn a language by reading its dictionary. I'm not saying Tekken isn't a complicated game with a lot of intricacies like that but you really really do not need to know all that poo poo to play it and enjoy yourself.

Sade posted:There's like loving 30 different ways you can be knocked down or something and they all have different wakeup options The different ways to be knocked down mostly don't matter and are a cool-looking way to add variety to the impact of moves. You can only be on the ground in 4 positions (face up/down, head first or feet first), and most of the basic wakeup options are the same for them (or you can roll over to the position that has the option you want). Learning Tekken is climbing a mountain, but there are paths along the way that you really don't need to go down to get to the top.

UNIEL is an excellent game with really good netcode and I recommend it a bunch, easily my star pick of that sale. I would like to recommend Aquapazza as well because I also think it is a good game but the netcode for that one is loving godawful and the game is pretty drat dead at this point.
