I just read that ccp porn blog. Great ideas, i guess everyone is getting hyped for that. Still it seemed something like they have no idea of what they are going to do, so just random ideas thrown there. Still it's great if it is gonna be fully implemented. Question remains: is this gonna replace POSs or Outposts?

RattiRatto posted:I just read that ccp porn blog. Great ideas, i guess everyone is getting hyped for that. CCP is planning to eventually replace all the old structures with these new varieties. This is because the old structures are a nightmarish mess to try and fix, so rather than do that they're just building entirely new structures on the same platform/format used for MTUs and Mobile Depots, and gradually phasing away the old structures entirely. They are apparently doing this gradually so that they can actually work out problems with it and give people a chance to adjust to the changes over time. So if you are currently running a moon empire with POS, at some point you are going to need to transition that to new structures (ones that we haven't actually seen yet). Assuming that this whole thing actually rolls ahead as advertised. We could always get a half-assed version if the whole thing turns too sticky to push through, I guess.

Got my CCP petition reply (it was re: the 90 days/30bux resub promo I apparently missed over the weekend) and while they won't extend the pricing they apparently will extend the 12th anniversary stuff. I would've expected the reverse, but whatevs. I used to get my time cards over affiliates like blink for the bonuses, is there anyone left giving out perks? Otherwise can someone pull the affiliate link from the goonswarm wiki for me?

He was identifiably the designer behind a number of lovely things, but it's not like he was some reverse midas. The problem with greyscale and why we dislike him so much was how he was utterly dismissive of player feedback, including the CSM. With the phoebe jump fatigue design it was like he actively cut them out of the loop. That's just the dumbest thing I can imagine a designer at CCP doing.

I wonder how much of Grayscale went into the new sov structures before he got the boot. As it stands, with stuff like citadels replacing outposts most, if not all, of an alliances assets are right there in space and vulnerable. If the Imperium did a campaign like Fountain/Delve in fozzie sov there would be literally nothing left of N3's nullsec assets. Their members wouldn't even be able to cash out and sell their stuff. the Imperium would literally have destroyed all non-liquid nullsec assets of a huge amount of players and that would set back more than just N3 because now moving into null is literally risking all your ingame assets.

Greyscale gets a bit of a bad rap, IMO. But not by much. He was the mastermind, or at least the figurehead (aka the guy who gets to write the blog post), for a lot of changes in Eve over the years. Some of them were disastrous, certainly: * Jump fatigue * Anomaly upgrade rebalancing But, honestly, quite a few of his changes were net positives for the game: * Removal of learning skills * Sensor overlays * Safe logoff * Red/yellow/green safety * Converting POS fuel from discrete components to fuelf blocks * Removal of wastage from manufacturing * Conversion of ME/TE from the old infinite scales to the 0-10 scale * The Noctis And a few were widely described as disastrous when they first came out, but ended up being positives in the long run as people converted to it: * Converting shipboard corp hangars into fleet hangars * Removal of deepsafes * Alchemy reactions The real reason that people hated (and continue to hate) Greyscale is that he dismissed feedback. He had a Grand Vision for how Eve should be, and the only persons capable of telling him otherwise were the people in his managerial chain. In many cases, he had a horrendous idea, was told it was horrendous, launched it anyways, and then had to eat crow. Eventually, you get tired of feeding someone your pet birds.
