JcDent posted:Free stuff? Yes please my email is my nickname @ gmail.com. Does it have multiplayer? The As for the infantry and names, even tanks and vehicles have been taking a beating so I can't say I've put a lot of effort in remember who is who and when they were used. Makes it easier on me since I don't have to spend an hour or two verifying every individual pixelman. The "W" stands for "Wehrmacht" A.K.A. the Armed Forces, the second letter stands for the branch. I'll send you a PM for the bundle later today.

This was a major criticism of the ToW games: the first game had a long campaign but core units just disappeared and reappeared constantly. In ToW2 the campaigns are so short it's incredibly difficult to care about experience upgrades. In both games there's a problem of actual unit choices per mission being so limited it barely matters.

Africa 1943 - German Campaign: The Last Offensive Mission 04: The Kasserine Pass quote:The discord in the Italian-German high command continued. Despite the recent success confirming that Rommel was right, he was still disbelieved. His plan to press on the offensive to the northwest via Tebessa was rejected by the German high command. Then Rommel offered the same plan to the Italian headquarters which supported it but preferred an advance to Thala and Le Kef to the north, instead of the northwest. Rommel considered this a lack of foresight, as the key was to cut off the Allies from their primary supply lines. This would force the British and Americans to withdraw to Algeria. The General believed that an offensive to the north would allow the enemy to pull in strong reserves. AW YEAH, LOOT! 1x Infantry and 1x Sniper in the looted halftrack (130) 1x Infantry in a Hanomag (125) 1x Anti-Tank and 1xHwy Anti-Tank in the other Hanomag (195) 2x PzIV (800) 1x lamer PzIV (345) 1xPzIII (330) 2x Yankee Pig-Dog 105mm guns (400) 1x Heavy Armored Car (120) 1x AA truck (180) 25 points left, if math doesn't fail me. When I did my horrible, abortive Warfare LP, my goal was to take as much looted stuff as possible. And, oh, the dramatic, humanizing Russian writing!

The American artillery piece has been swapped out for a 7.5cm IG and the Heavy Armored Car was swapped for a 2nd AA vehicle.

So they don't replenish ammo at all, or just don't replenish ammo for the captured guns? Ah, well, Heavy Recon explodes just as well as light recon does, I think, and AA can always be pressed into an anti-infantry role.

If there's one thing I've noticed recently, it's that Africa 1943 has teased us with units. We never did get to see crusaders in action, and Tigers have yet to actually show up. I believe we are supposed to get Tigers for the last campaign mission, but since cheated units are added to "the core" I'm not entirely sure. Either way, I'll make them available to choose since why would we play the German campaign without seeing them at least once. JcDent posted:Oh, and one more thing: I love how soldiers have moral(e) in the game. That's the one thing that fearless comrades in Men of War lack. I can only imagine that Men of War would be far worse with morale effects in-game, simply with how regularly I've seen infantry get mowed down. Or tanks getting sniped by anti-tank guns or other tanks.

Well, true. Fire should be less accurate in game, no? ToW infantry could use more dynamic AI or something, so that they would go to ground by themselves, and maybe move intelligently.

JcDent posted:Well, true. Fire should be less accurate in game, no? Fire accuracy in MoW in general or as a low morale effect? ToW's infantry is still a little too dependent on the player or AI. They do go to ground, but largely they stick to their current stance or movement mode: Run, Dash, Crawl. The infantry isn't bad in this game because they are fragile, as they should be, but more because they don't have things that would help them out. For example, they do suffer from having little in the way of smoke screens to cover an advance or combined arms movement where they actively take cover behind a moving tank. Come to think of it, I don't know if any game does that (maybe Combat Mission?).

Africa 1943 - German Campaign: The Last Offensive Mission 06: Tebessa quote:The Afrika Korps advanced slower than Rommel expected for several reasons. The first and foremost was the hesitation of the high command, von Arnim and Kesselring in particular. It resulted in long delays that allowed the enemy to pull in reserves and establish defences. Besides, Rommel had to change the axis of advance, as ordered by the Italian high command, which required time to redraw the plans for a new battle scenario. The second reason was the lack of troops. Though Hitler kept his promise and redeployed the 10th and 21st Panzer Divisions to the continent, this was not enough, because the enemy had a lot more manpower to draw from. New Equipment SdKfz. 250/1 The smaller brother of the SdKfz. 251 family, it was used in situations or roles that didn't require the longer rear chassis/compartment of the larger 251. Basically, this meant it was used in the scout, radio, forward observer and headquarters roles. Like the 251, it was adapted to a variety of settings and requirements. Has an MG-34 as its armament. Tiger I Ausf. E Do I really need to talk about the Tiger tank? It was a large tank with a large gun. It had some advantages and disadvantages; strengths and flaws; all of which have been thoroughly talked about. Uses the same gun as the Flak 36 and, consequently, the same ammo. Also carries 2 MG-34's: One co-axially and one next to the driver's position. GER Mission 06: Tebessa http://youtu.be/YrQyKlK6jIs Victory! quote:After accumulating forces for half a year and gaining 6-fold supremacy in artillery, tanks and aviation, the US task force, supported by the 8th British Army, threw the Italo-German troops back to the extreme end of the Cape Bon Peninsula, cutting them off the mainland in the process. After two months of fighting, the Afrika Korps was surrounded from both the land and the sea, and laid down arms. Field Marshal Rommel was recalled from Tunisia on March 9, 1943 to be appointed commander of the Army Group B in Northern Italy. Major Erich Gerhard fought in Normandy. After failure of Operation Watch on the Rhine he was assigned to the Berlin garrison. He died heroically in April 1945 defending Berlin. I don't think this was translated properly...

Moving forward with Theatre of War 2 Now that we've finished the German campaign, we have 2 options left which will be left up to the thread to decide. We can either play the American campaign, although we've already seen every map/conflict so the only real difference will be the equipment we use. Or We can dive into the DLC Italian Campaign - "Centauro". Keep in mind, however, that if we choose the Italian campaign, I will bypass the Americans entirely so that we may move on to Kursk that much faster. Voting ends Monday July 20th

Africa 1943 - Italian Campaign: Centauro Mission 01: The Road to El Agheila quote:On December 13, the Centauro battle group bringing up the rear of the mobile Italian and German units was attacked by the 9th British Tank Brigade. The Italian field artillery and tanks locked in battle with more than 80 British tanks. The Italians were aptly using the anti-tank gun in ambush to stop the enemy strike and lost 6 tanks and 12 guns. 50 men were captured prisoners. The British lost more than 40 tanks and a few armored cars. We have no order of battle for this mission. We just have to hope that whatever we have is decent. The mystery tank in the briefing does give us a clue as to what we might have, but is far from telling us what the rest of our forces may be composed of. It's a Fiat L6/39

Africa 1943 - Italian Campaign: Centauro Mission 02: At Es Sened Station quote:On January 30 1943, the 1st American Tank Division attacked the Italian positions near Maknassy. The Centauro division was holding grimly, combat action took all day. The Americans, suffering heavy losses, managed to capture the Es Sened station on February 1. First things first, the Italian briefings are lacking in flavour, especially compared to the previous campaigns. Secondly, I guess we should expect lots of US tanks and a defensive mission. New Equipment Since we finally get an Order of Battle, we get to check out all the new toys we have to play with! Autoblinda 40 There's not much to say about the Autoblinda 40. The high top speed it has is nice, but we won't really be able to take advantage of that. The lack of any sort of heavy armament is also a huge disadvantage in 1943. The 8mm Breda MG is the gun we'll be seeing as secondary armament for armored vehicles with the Italians, similar to the MG-34 for the Germans. Exceptions will be added, but there's no point in me re-posting the same info over and over. Autoblinda 41 We got to see this in action in the previous mission. While not the best, the 20mm auto-cannon is a definite improvement and it still retains the high top speed of its predecessor. The 20mm rounds it carries can also put a dent in tanks at close range, and is a match against other armoured cars. Carro Armato L6/40 The first, and only, Italian light tank, it's pretty lackluster and forgettable. Personally, I'd rather just have Autoblinda 41's since those cost half as much, carry the same armament and are much faster. It uses the same auto-cannon as the Autoblinda 41 Carro Armato M13 The Italians used a simple system for their tank designations. L, M, and P stood for their Light, Medium, and Heavy categories; Tank designations were based on weight, with the tonnage as the number in the designation. Therefore, the M13 was a medium tank weighing 13 tons. The Italian heavy tank I mentioned in the first video was the P26/40, the second number designating when it was introduced. The small amount of armor is befitting of a light tank, which is bad because its a medium tank and by 1943 the Panzer IV had over twice as much frontal armour. I'm not looking forward to using these in combat... And the gun is bad too! Carro Armato M14 Hey, if you didn't think it could get worse, you just lost whatever bet you placed! The Carro Armato M14 is almost a straight downgrade, almost. What's different? Two things, actually. 1. We get an increase of 2 km/h 2. We lose 7 AP rounds and 10 HE rounds because of the increased engine size. The gun is the same as the M13. Semovente 75/18 At the moment, the Semovente 75/18 is the only saving grace, as far as tanks go. Its an assault gun similar to a StuG III, except not as well armored, armed - you get the jist of things. Still, it has HEAT rounds, and those are great equalizers. Might not seem like a lot, but we'll need as much penetration as we can if we have to face Valentines or Shermans. Deployable Units We can deploy 2000 points of units 2 x Armoured Cars 4 x Tanks 2 x Tank Destroyers 4 x Infantry Detachments Force composition votes/selections to end tonight at Midnight EST Jobbo_Fett fucked around with this message at 14:20 on Jul 29, 2015 |

2 x Autoblinda (we only have one of each, right?) 180 4 x M13s 2 x TDs, so Semoventes? 400 2 x Infantry 100 2 x AT infantry 120 ...am I bad at maths, or is it almost impossible to hit 2000? Also, that infantry in trenches would probably survive a lot better if they felt any need to crouch or go prone once the shells start falling.
