Phobophilia posted:Shimoneta is not as clever as it thinks it is. The show is part of the otaku reaction against getting called out for their hosed up porn tastes, and so sets up an idiotic strawman. Ehhh, I gotta disagree somewhat. The raciest parts of it are the pin-up cards tossed out at the crowds in all of two or three short moments, and even then they're all clearly just adult women (the context being that everyone's become so upstanding and moral they don't even know how to process looking at them without going "what is this doing to me?! ![]() ![]()

I guess Aoharu x Machinegun is some sort of natural child of Ouran HS Host Club and either Sabagebu or C3-bu? Weird. The first episode was entertaining in a predictable sort of way. I'll probably give it another episode or two to prove it's the child of Sabagebu rather than the rather dull C3-bu.

Rokka no Yuusha has a good first episode. If the other six heroes are also fun, the setting remains interesting, and the animation doesn't nosedive... well, it'll continue to be good.

Actually I Am manga fans seem to be underwhelmed by the anime adaptation. I haven't read it and so far my impression is good enough for a three episode test.

Wow, Charlotte's MC is a real rear end in a top hat. e: ah, I knew his voice was familiar; he's Kanye West! ee: kind of a dumb show. We don't even get to know who the gently caress Charlotte is. I could see it going interesting places, or not. 3-ep test. Yes_Cantaloupe fucked around with this message at 08:09 on Jul 7, 2015 |

I read a fair number of Ushio and Tora chapters. The artist is good at drawing monsters (excepting Tora, whose design I loathe) and shonen level gore . The main problem is it's really slow for a battle manga.

Red-headed Snow White was pretty enjoyable. I found some of the dialogue and exposition a bit awkward. You had characters make statements to flesh out the wider world, but here it didn't feel natural. Like "ooh! This herb is good for fevers!" Or "Oh, too bad your Dead Grandparents aren't here to see you now!" A shame, other Bones shows like Darker than Black could make that kind of dialogue work.

I kid. DtB has an elaborate superpower system, and it was presented extremely well in bits of dropped dialogue and explored through individual episode arcs. I felt like comparing the two because they were both handled by the same studio (even if it doesn't actually mean anything, Akagami really has nothing to do with DtB). I guess I shouldn't have bought up DtB at all. I just felt that some of Shirayuki's early dialogue and monologues were awkward. Other bits were great, Raj chewed up the scenery, and Zen is charming as gently caress.

Ushio and Tora is amusing because Tora is like a giant cowardly puppy and Ushio is loving terrifying. Dandelion Town is pretty dumb and uninteresting. It's saving grace is that it has alot of genuine heart and warmth. It's about a big happy family of VIPs, that can successfully overcome the weight of society upon them. No Kardashian-style cruelty and voyeurism. The audience doesn't feel like an intruder, but a natural extension. Unfortunately, the superpower thing is really dumb and completely ruins it. The fact that the family is royalty strains credibility but doesn't ruin it; whereas the superpowers do.

The female MC of Aoharu is pretty amusing but that's the extent of my interest in the show. I should finish Ouran instead. Also, Chaos Dragon is hilariously awful. The characters are awful, the dialogue is awful, the plot is awful, the animation and character design is awful, the only thing that stood out to me in the pile of poo poo was the 2edgy4u of the MC's magic sword embedding itself into the MC's love interest, Stormbringer style.

As a manga reader, I thought it was decent enough. Just kinda flat by comparison. So how's CD on the 'so bad it's good' scale? The premise, staff, and studio offered much possibility for glorious failure, and the premiere is being spoken of in hushed tones across the anime-watching internet. Is its incompetence hilarious, or just dull?

Chaos Dragon is hilariously bad. Perhaps it's because I've had an extra glass of wine, but I was doubled over laughing at how awful it was.

I think, CD fits "so bad, it's good": while being comically terrible in almost every way, it takes itself completely serious and is full of genuine enthusiasm. It's also not mean spirited or creepy or anything like that. All and all, you can't help to almost root for it to somehow against all odds miraculously turn out decent.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to call Chaos Dragon terrible, but it certainly is pretty generic so far. The visuals they sprinkled through the first episode were interesting, but that's about it. Meanwhile, the first episode of Wakako-zake is out. It's just two minutes of a woman having a monologue about pub grub, but her face isn't all that scary once you get used to it.

I blame the fact that they're not even into the actual TRPG that they did, but are still in anime original set-up mode. Reading some of the replay, the series has a lot of potential to be good. Instead we get.... Looking at the staff listings, the Director is pretty green and has previously only been directing OPs and EDs via the company, Alice from Japan. I would guess he's to blame for how bad it is.
