I can understand the logic of a stunt like this - that women are disproportionately judged according to their appearance rather than any other personal qualities, and that this isn't okay - but this kind of whining has the opposite effect. What they should be doing is saying "yes, this woman is more attractive than me, but that's okay - I'm not in competition with her and, besides, I have other things in my life which validate me as a person," rather than complaining that fashion models - whose job is literally to be more beautiful than everyone else - look better in swimsuits than them. Like, aren't they just drawing attention to their appearance and tacitly inviting unfair comparisons by pulling a stunt like this, exactly the opposite of what they should be trying to do?

I know it's not the same, but a sense of humour, for example, is seen as important in a man, but do I really think it would benefit me - as a man of average comedy ability - to criticise professional comedians for setting unrealistic standards of comedy, and to then record a bunch of lovely, cringe-worthy jokes in protest? Wouldn't that just get more people to judge me according to my unfunniness?

This is basically my problem with online "body-positivity" stuff -- rather than promoting the idea that it's perfectly okay that some women are unattractive because they have other qualities which give them as much or more worth as a person, they appear to be attacking the concept of attractiveness itself which just seems petty and whiny.

the whole idea of "if you do not find me this other person who is in no way a stand-in for me attractive, you are wrong" just reeks of Nice Guy

Number 1 and 2 are both doable, I'd be afraid of crushing death with 3 and 4. Frankly, the bathing suit in the first set is just gently caress-ugly all by itself, it doesn't even look good on the model really.

You could've made the same point with attractiveness, though. You're never going to look like the model on the underwear pack unless you have well-defined abs which you shave or wax daily. Granted, men tend to be judged a lot less based on their appearance than women do, but I think the problem still exists.

Still, when I see that, I don't go "that's an unrealistic body image *goes back to eating large fries*," I go, "hey, perhaps I should hit the gym so I have muscles like that too!"

It's written for fat girls to feel validated in their stupid victim complex that they have now because all women-centric media is insultingly patronizing and pandering to them. They feel ashamed, and their reaction to that is to see themselves as helpless victims rather than either embrace their love of twinkies or work the work needed to lose the weight and keep it off. It is only ever intended to preach to a sad choir.

You think you look good in a monokini with the side cutouts? If you do, you don't. No one does. The shape actually makes people look fatter and gross because it elongates the torso while accentuating the waist and straightening the shape. Go with a solid one piece or a bikini, but the side cutout poo poo is bad. If you are a girl with a good body, you can't beat the good old triangle bikini or a high cut one piece. Both are super flattering classics and look great.

VS is one of the companies that fats are at all out war with because they didn't make some token effort to get behind fat acceptance by hiring a single fat 'model' to parade around like most of the other lingerie companies have. I heard a discussion on the actual tv 'news' about how vs's reputation would soon be circling the drain, how they were already losing market share to more accepting labels that offer and flaunt larger sizes. Fat people are just so drat certain they are only not considered beautiful because the media has convinced people they are not, rather than the media reflecting what people want to see. I hope this eventually leads to all media looking like the cast of tim and eric, but more likely tech will take over and make everything customised so that when ladies look at magazines it shows them pictures of their own exact body shape as the societal ideal.
