That's kinda crazy. as mentioned, a prime glitch in the 64 version is throwing so many grenades that the game massively lags so you can phase through walls dk64 is a loving hilariously broken game and great for speedruns no matter the version

Also I really, really, really goddamn love the soundtrack in DK64. All N64 Rare games have great soundtracks, but there's something about DK64 specifically I really really love.

DK64 is the lowest on my list of DKC games so far, being a guy whose first game was DKC3, and I never looked back. I even had a friend beat DK64 for me way back when. Returns and TF are great, with TF edging out Returns by a slight margin. DKC2 is amazing, and DKC3 is also very good, but both of them make DKC1 kinda eh, at least to me.

This game is so buggy and lovely Rare had to give everyone a free expansion pak because it was the only way they could figure out how to get it to stop crashing.

I really enjoyed Donkey Kong Country 1 when I played through it for the first time earlier this year, but DKC3 and especially 2 absolutely blew it out of the water. e; I will admit, the one thing I eternally loving hate in DK64 is having to beat two games that are not DK64, to reach the end of DK64. Sucks because I actually kind of like the boss fights in DK64 (when they aren't repeats) and K. Rool is a pretty neat final one.

This isn't a good game, but if you don't mind glitches in your speedrun it makes for a great speedrun. If you don't, thats fine, just go watch one of the other runs.
