Helmsley had a barbecue pit constructed for her home. The work was performed by Eugene Brennan, a personal friend of Jeremiah McCarthy, the chief engineer of Helmsley-Spear. When the final bill came to $13,000, she refused to pay, citing shoddy workmanship. When McCarthy pleaded with her to honor the bill, citing the favor done on his behalf and informing her that Brennan had six children to support, Helmsley replied, "Why didn't he keep his pants on? Then he wouldn't need the money."

Quote of the day, “The Senate Democrats have a big enough number to prevent us from doing things. They prevented us from doing any of the bills that appropriate money for the government, thereby forcing a negotiation when we go back in after Labor Day, which I’ll be engaged in with the administration and others to try to sort out how much we’re going to spend and where we’re going to spend it... We just don’t have the votes to get the outcome that we’d like. I would remind all of your viewers: The way you make a law in this country, the Congress has to pass it and the president has to sign it. The president has made it very clear he’s not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood, so that’s another issue that awaits a new president hopefully with a different point of view about Planned Parenthood.” ~ Mitch McConnell

About right! The US Federal budget is $3,504,000,000,000 of which $540,600,000 goes to Planned Parenthood, which is 0.0154%.

I can't tell whether the Republicans in Congress really understand the degree to which they are making the entirety of the country apathetic about any scandal involving Hillary Clinton. She could murder someone live on the Today show, and I feel like the majority of America would be suspicious of the veracity of the claim. They're doing her a loving huge favor dragging all this stuff out more than a year out.

Carson's initial response was even stupider--he said he didn't know if they'd been aborted or not (seems like the sort of thing you'd care about if it was, you know, murder) and that it was wasteful not to experiment on them. There's no way to sound more callous or stupid on one of the GOPs biggest issues.

So I heard a Sanders campaign speech at a certain srirachaball filled state fair, and I'm left with but one overriding impression:

Bernie Sanders be so white, he so white he see the problem of race in america as one of red and black, of purely resources, and is completely unwilling to talk about race without talking about red and black.

I tell ya, there are four words Sanders could utter which'd ruin his campaign, which is why he'll never utter them directly, and they are this: "Let's talk about race."

Why do you think Uncle Ben is so popular in the Iowa? Unlike Trump, Ben Carson has taken lessons from the NRA and applied them to race. Particularly, now is not the time to talk about race.
