I was never a huge halflife fan but I certainly enjoyed the games. Why they won't release a new game is beyond me though, of course steam makes more money now but come on there has to be some sort of pride as a developer left to finish the series.

I think Valve knows that the more they flesh out and explain the half-life universe the worse the whole premise becomes because they just added a bunch of stuff they thought would be cool in the first game and then they had to build a coherent story and universe around it afterwards. It's kind of like The Matrix movies where they really should have stopped after the first one. I'd much rather have another great Portal game tbh

Half-Life was average and HL2 was better but aged really quickly. The real interest in these things is licensing the game engine to other devs, and Valve has fallen way behind the other players in this field (Epic). Not to mention that fewer and fewer devs bother buying engines anymore. CPU and GPU power has come so far that even a lovely in-house engine can make your game work, and you don't lose on royalties, training, tc. Valve is going to be a e-shop for third-party titles until it gets bought by Microsoft.

halflife 1 was solid bonus points for when i thought i was reaching the end of the level because soldiers there to rescue me and fuuuuuck and double gently caress because all of a sudden the enemy is using tactics holy poo poo except they completely dropped the ball on the ending  in halflife 2 they made me stack cinder blocks on one end of a seesaw so i could jump to a ledge like im playing the first doom engine mod ever that allowed jumping and then i was on a lovely boat and gently caress this

I wouldn't be surprised if they are working on another graphics engine too. Wasn't HL2 pretty groundbreaking when it was revealed?
