i salute you for giving tarantino the time of day enough to write this.

i thought kill bill 2 was stronger than kill bill 1, but jackie brown is still long and boring. your assessment of stuff after kill bill seems perceptive to me: "poignant historical settings to give heft to his schlock." he also thinks his personal and filmographic history gives him leeway to do social/political commentary, which he is not nearly intelligent enough for.

He is a very talented person but he's unfortunately far too egotistical. In a certain way all confident and talented artists are egotistical, but Tarantino seems to be that way to an extent that has harmed his potential. For instance, he has pretty much disowned "Jackie Brown" because unlike all his other films, it's based on a novel (by Elmore Leonard.) He'd much rather get the sole "writer/director" credit for his own stuff rather than stoop so low as to adapt a book or a play or direct a screenplay by someone else.

As for "Jackie Brown" being boring, I'd really encourage you to give that film a second chance in the future. I myself thought films like "Goodfellas" and "Chinatown" were boring upon my first viewing, now they're among my favorite flicks!
