Remember that season Ovechkin had a 65 points in 78 games and everyone called him washed up and done?

Good Canadian kid Crosby has 67 points in his last 78 games.

Do you have an Air Miles Card?
Crazy number of significant late goals last night:

Caps scored with 1 second left to tie the Leafs and win in the shootout
Carolina scored with 3 seconds left to tie the Sens and win in overtime
Sabres scored with 17 seconds left to break a tie with Vancouver
Habs scored with 1:08 left to break a tie with Boston

In both cases, it seems that coaching is to blame.

Ovechkin had a down year in 2010-11 mainly due to bad luck. Crushed the league in SOG but shot like 9% as opposed to his career average of like 12.5%.

In 2011-12 Hunter legitimately made him worse by playing him like 14 minutes a night and as a result it was the only year he didn't lead the league in SOG. He played poorly for his standards, but it mainly had to do with Hunter being a bad coach.

Did he? I feel like that's the narrative surrounding him but I half wonder if it was less him reinventing himself and more the Caps putting a non moronic coach back in charge of the team that spurred his revival.

There was a good article on it earlier in the season/offseason. For his early career, Ovechkin created most of his offence by entering the zone with speed in a 1-on-1 and then cutting to the middle to create space for a shot. Eventually defencemen and coaches adapted/started cheating, and he eliminated the cut from his game entirely for a few years. He's back to using it again, but only as one option as opposed to his main approach.

Hunter Shinkaruk has also been lighting it up in Utica, too, (9 goals in 11 games) which is a good sign because he was treading on bust territory

Yeah. I wanna know how that's even interference, unless the ref figured he wasn't in control of the puck as it slid past him.
