It's weird but Donald Trump is probably the most pro-Russian Republican candidate. Or at least he's the only one who says he can talk and "do business" with them instead of yelling about shows of strength and building up the military.

Evil dictator who's kinda religious but not really and can somehow keep a nation unified within borders established arbitrarily a hundred years ago by dying colonialist empires. You can look at someone like him now, with the benefit of hindsight, and realise what would happen if he was deposed. Yes he's an evil dick. But dicks like Assad, are just the sort of person you need to gently caress arseholes like IS....no wait that's from Team America. It's a relevant point though. Evil loving dictator bastards like Assad are just the sort of people that need to remain in control. Sure they burn peoples' balls into nothingness with blowtorches, and get family members to inform on each other, and control the media, but they're still better than what comes after. You hear stories from places like Syria, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Iran, about how great it was before superpowers tried to manipulate things. (Some of it's hype, sure.) Authoritarian secretly-secular dictators are what you get now as a result, but as with IS and Iraq things get worse if you don't stop trying to gently caress things up more. ethanol posted:Can we just drop turkey from nato seriously turkey sucks Ehh, all of NATO, and the EU, is a bunch of competing interests. The enforced hegemony is great for tourism though, not to mention trade. Trade's what matters. Same reason I'm not so worried about terrorism; I'm more likely to die of skin cancer. But if trade shuts down or even slows a little that means a few people on the edge of finances can't afford the slightly more expensive medicines and people die. Robo Reagan posted:they already slap a camera on blimps and float them over military bases. why not attack a rocket pod too? Turkey ignores and indirectly supports IS because the group is fighting against Turkey's enemies. Russia also ignores IS because their presence takes the focus away from Assad and allows him to rule as the "lesser evil". This whole thing is all kinds of amazing
