Pearlglass fish can be caught with Earthworm, Dumplings or River Snail as bait. The rod doesn't matter, it only determines what bait you can use. The starter rod can use Earthworm, so that's enough to catch Pearlglass. As for locations where Pearlglass is catchable, there are two in Rolent. One next to the bridge in Elize Highway and one in (end of chapter spoilers) Mistwald near the tree where you find Luciola and fight the chapter bosses. I recommend savescumming just in case you get unlucky and don't have much bait.

There are three of them with 8800+ HP, they suck huge chunks of HP off to heal themselves, and they summon more of themselves as reinforcements, meaning that you can easily end up in a situation where you have MORE of them on the field than when the fight first started. gently caress that fight. I thought going into it with full CP gauges would help, but even unleashing two of them onto one doesn't kill one.

Okay, thanks. I did it this time with Agate + Zane and I mostly tried to burst them down one at a time with S-Crafts and Earth Lance and that finally worked. One last thing: Is it possible to find the original recipe for Rolent's "Nostalgic Recipe" quest currently? There's a lot of dialogue going "gee, it's too bad that we couldn't find the original", which I'm reading as "find the original for max BP", but I've talked to everyone I can think of... except maybe people at the mine... (I should do that next actually), but no one seems to know the original. It says it's a "long-term" quest, so is this a case of you're supposed to leave and come back later? I wouldn't think so, since all other previous quests have been solvable before leaving, but this gives me the sense that I'm missing something. I'm definitely enjoying SC, although I seem to have missed the second chapter of Gambler Jack somewhere in Chapter 1 (Agate version). A pity since I found all the others (er, in the first 5 chapters). Stabbey_the_Clown fucked around with this message at 20:17 on Nov 26, 2015 |

The recipe DID have many variations, but the one Radford remembered (and wanted to eat) was the variation that his childhood friend on whom he had an eye in his youth used to cook for him...Mrs Bloom being that childhood friend.

This is possibly going to be a long rambling and irrelevant post, so feel free to skip it because it may not be very interesting. Back in May-June, I did a Nightmare playthrough of TitS FC, carrying over everything. At the time, I was hopeful that SC would be coming out fairly soon (and really, I'd been wanting to replay it again anyway and I couldn't stop myself anyway.) When SC finally came out at the end of October, I had to decide whether to jump right in, or replay FC for a fourth time, knowing it would delay getting into SC for a few weeks. I decided to replay FC, this time going back to basics and doing a new game on normal, carrying over nothing. The experience was subtly different than that of my blind playthrough on normal, because this time the monster book was working, so if I needed a few extra Sepith to make new quartz, it wasn't hard to find some monster I could kill to get them from. I didn't regret replaying FC at all. There was so much fantastic stuff which I'd forgotten about, so many lines which genuinely caught me off guard and made me laugh even though I'd played the game before already a couple times. I did a max BP and all Carnelia run basically by memory. I only screwed up once and had to load a previous save (it was escorting Hardt from Bose to Krone). The second-best part though was going into the fight versus Lorence and completely schooling him on my first try. This was on a fresh playthrough, with no carry-over. I think he managed to get off one Earth Guard EX, but that was it. No Silver Thorn, no Demon Flames. The third-best part was abusing Earth Wall to make Reverie impotent. It got off one successful Death Rage to kill Agate, but that was all. It really is amusing to have all max health characters at the end of "really hard" battles and the story going "wow how did we ever win that one"? I beat the game at level 37, which is my lowest attempt. What was the best part of my replay of FC? It was when after hitting the Exit Game button in FC, I could immediately hit Play Game for SC. I really love all the new music for SC. FC had only so many themes, and SC has added a whole lot more music - not just battle music, but background music during dialogue sequences. I'll have to dig around in the OGG files and find out which tracks are which. The story in SC is great. I like how Estelle made the point in flashback that she was leaning on Joshua a lot of the time, and she'll have to become better standing on her own. Estelle's character development is subtle, but she comes across as a lot smarter and more capable without losing what made her Estelle. She no longer is the hapless Junior Bracer. The new quests in SC are also great in that regard. They’re both more complicated and more involved. The stuff she does as a senior bracer has a lot more steps. There’s more investigation and interrogation and more of the gruntwork that would indeed be a part of the job. The description of what a Bracer does in FC always came across to me as something like "freelance police". They are a legally recognized body authorized to investigate crimes and carry out arrests, and the quests in SC emphasize that a lot more. The combat also seems a lot tougher. In one early dungeon (Chapter 1 - Agate - Old Schoolhouse Basement), you get into a forced fight at the start with a single tough cookie. The rest of the dungeon has various other enemies, including physical-evading ones which impede casting, weak enemies which buff enemies speed and strength when they die. The let you get used to those, and then halfway through, they throw in an encounter where there’s a tough cookie, the casting-impede guys, and the buffing-on-death guys. That creates a situation where you have to pick your targets pretty carefully. You want to take down the impede guys quickly because they’re obnoxious, but the ones which buff on death want to be left for last because their damage output is so weak it can be safely ignored, and you don’t want to give buffs to everyone else. That's just an example, because a lot of combat is more strategic than it was before. I'm now up to early Chapter 5 and I'm loving this game. I can't wait to see what comes next. I'm trying to go for max BP, but I'm not going to use a guide for it. If I miss points, I miss points (and I can tell that I already missed some points.) That's okay, there are more playthroughs to come. *** I'm surprised to see comments on SC like "argh I'll have to wait for a second playthrough to see what happens to take Olivier to the hot springs". This game has 1000 save slots. I'm using them like candy. I've used those to play a couple scenes with different party members, but that usually doesn't matter all that much unless one of the characters has a connection to someone involved. The lines end up being pretty interchangeable for the most part. Stabbey_the_Clown fucked around with this message at 01:31 on Nov 27, 2015 |

That's really underlevelled for that point. The only way to stay that low is to pretty much ignore every monster and every chest and go straight to the bottom of the final dungeon.

Well, you're not wrong. I was getting so little XP from the monsters that I assumed i'd already done too much grinding earlier, and since the story felt pretty urgent at the time I decided i'd just go all the way down. Richard was kinda tough, final boss quality in his own right, and then Reverie came up and it was the worst. Guess I should've just kept grinding but I eventually pulled through.

I should dig up my PSP again and see when when I finished FC originally... I could then also work on completing Tactics Ogre. Someone mentioned Lionhearts edition and well, I don't have a Vita and would also not really consider importing from the US either. (Is the Vita region locked anyway or not?) Second Chapter - Does anyone know the song name and the number for the ED6xxx.OGG for the song that plays in Bose (Chapter 5) after the market incident? and the same for the new Ancient Dragon's Lair dungeon later on? [Chapter 6] No fair, game! I wanted to see if it was possible to beat the Estelle vs Gilbert + 4 Enhanced Jagers fight, even though I entered the chapter with most of my good quartz stuck on unavailable people. I had to make do with a Scent + Action 3 + Luck + EP 3 for her first line, and Scent + HP4 + Mind 4 + Defense 4 on her second. That gave her Clock up EX, Clock Down, White Gehenna, and Teara and Tearal. The strategy for the fight was pretty simple. Clock up EX, followed as soon as safely possible with Clock Down, and then White Gehenna's all day. It actually worked too. I got them down to just one Jager who had Max Guard up, and I had a fully-charged True Barrage ready, but as soon as I wiped out the guard of the Jager, in preparation to Barrage him down, the game cheated and went to a cutscene. Granted, this time it was a cutscene where they're going "how the hell is she still still holding us at bay", but I TOTALLY had that fight. I wonder if there's any extra BP in it for that (although I doubt it). Stabbey_the_Clown fucked around with this message at 01:48 on Nov 28, 2015 |
