Yes, the Braun is a P08 pistol, better known as the Luger after its inventor. The P38 was the attempted replacement for it during World War II, but they both served concurrently until after the war. The Luger has a reputation for being really fragile, but other accounts I've read have actually suggested that this falsely comes from poorly maintained trophy guns or loading the valuable guns with very weak ammo to avoid damaging it, resulting in more jams.

However, it's definitely more complicated than a P38. Instead of a big slide on the top half of the pistol, the bolt is connected to a toggle lock. It's a joint that basically bends like a knee as the bolt goes back.

Armstrong is awesome; when I played New Vegas, I based my character on him - full unarmed, full explosives, minimal charisma and intelligence, taking no poo poo from anyone, constantly drunk. That was a playthrough to remember.

Yeah, I figured Armstrong was a survivor and I was going to be drinking whenever I ended up in civilization, so I went for survival and speech (for Terrifying Presence) along with the two obvious combat skills.
It was a fun run; the game really changes when all you've got for range is dynamite tossing.

Yeah, it's interesting to see a character like him not just be painted as a Straw Opposition. But then again, that's what Smithy's for.

The buildup of a working relationship between Cate and The Eagle is really well thought out (and written/acted). They'll bitch at each other but they're both professional enough to cooperate and get past possibly lethal fuckups just to get the job done; they're slowly becoming a team.
drat good thing too, since HARM just revealed their superweapon: British ambassadors.

Cyanide-tipped bullets are kinda a thing? People have tried to make poisoned bullets for a long time (I think some Prohibition-era gangster performed a hit with bullets stuffed with garlic and such to infect the wound), but they're not commonly used because even if you got enough poison left in the body (and bullets don't hold a lot) to kill over time, it would only be after they've fled your attack. More than likely, good aim will mean that the bullets kill them.

The new SMG Cate starts with, the Gordon 9mm, is a Sterling Mk. IV submachine gun. It was the replacement for the World War II-era Sten and its prototype predecessor, the Patchett, saw some experimental use during the war. The British used it until 1985 when the L85A1 assault rifle replaced all battle rifles and submachine guns. It's still being made in India, though.

I actually really like the discrepancy between the intel items in this level and the previous one. The item in the last ship mission was in one of those top secret envelopes, right? Versus a film reel here. To me that says that the film reel was for the regular grunts, so that they'd never see the betrayal coming. That way the officers who had gotten the envelope could have an easier time snuffing out their subordinates after they helped them seal the compartment.

I'm getting caught up with this thread. I love this game and all of its running gags.

This has nothing to do with anything, but if you use the "all weapons" cheat code, you get the version of SMG used in the skydiving scene - held sideways in one hand with Cate's other hand held out.
