I thought it was kind of weird Finn seemed completely unaffected by being a stormtrooper. Like after 25 years of brainwashing and murdering innocent people he's just a normal dude.

The two people the audience is supposed to connect with are a semi-feral ninja who is an expert at everything the first time they attempt it or a turd-chaser raised from birth to be a killing machine. These are your protagonists. Your self-inserts. Your guides through the story.

So let's see where do we begin.. Leia looks okay, Han looks like he needs a megadose of Metamucil, no one can tell what the gently caress with Chewie except he seems to have turned into a serial hypochondriac, and there's a buncha kids running around, and Luke has become Obi-wan so he can troll some niece or daughter of his. How does Han get to afford some big ship 10x the size of the Falcon that looks like a shoebox and how can only he and Chewie run it? Its also too big for them to install security systems as two space gangs can just board the shoebox whenever they please. Why do people leave giant spaceships aground on desert planets? They must be incredibly rich to say 'oh my giant spaceship got dirt on it ima gonna leave it on this trash planet and buy another one.' I don't buy the gimmick basso singer from Inside Llewyn Davis as evil bad guy, although the giant schnoz does help link him to Han. Also don't buy how Finn and Pol can become bosom buddies after spending 5 minutes together in a TIE fighter escaping Death Star Jumbo. How does Death Star Jumbo kill planets, does it move around a lot off screen or do they fire their weapon through hyperspace? All in all just a cheap retread of A New Hope done JJ style, which is to follow the basic plot, throw in some half-hearted 'we twisted this around so it's totally different' bullcrap, and try too hard to make us care about nobodies we've never seen before, and hope no one notices the plot holes that are big enough to pass two Death Star Jumbos through. BB-8 looks like a mobile toilet, kept expecting someone to flip his head open so they could take a crap. Binary Badger fucked around with this message at 22:21 on Jan 3, 2016 |

They blew up the Senate homeworld and the Republic fleet, because the Republic was dealing with the Resistance under the table. Although they weren't dealing with them enough that Leia could send them a memo about the big Death Star. It might've just been the appearance of cooperation that set the space nazis off.

This irked me a bit, but I can understand the movie not being all that morally complex because it's Star Wars. I thought maybe they were leaning toward this in the beginning when Finn and Poe escaped, but it turns out his aim just kinda sucks for a minute.

I'm just kinda bummed that Leia is significantly less cool when she should be a bad rear end jedi by now. I don't even think she got to shoot anyone in the face in this movie. The only kill I remember her making was via bad advice to Han and she regretted it. Misuse of Carrie Fisher in my opinion.
