fwiw i see this sort of learned helplessness in my students ("help I tried to install x and it didn't work" "what did you try and what didn't work?" "I downloaded the thing and tried to run it and it didn't work and I don't understand what's going on just fix it!") and honestly a lot of time the greater kindness is to try and discover what they actually want to do and help them do that

yeah. there are some things where the general consensus is "well, 95% of the time you shouldn't be using that because it's the wrong way to accomplish most things", and its loving miserable to be the 5% who actually needs to use it

it's even worse if you're working with something that's still evolving or changing, because the same people shouting you down with worthless advice are also pushing very hard for the thing you're trying to use to be completely hobbled in the next release

bluetooth's moved to client/server and central/peripheral which is fine and dandy until the peripheral is the GATT server
