So around this point in the game you've probably done your first class changes a while ago and are still a while away from your second change. You're still early enough that you should be spreading out your points and experimenting with what works for you rather than focusing on any one skill, although investing more heavily in buffs and passives can be worth it if they're really good. Specifically, attack and defense buffs are pretty much always good, and most of them can be cast outside of combat, which is great if you know a major fight is coming up. Because of the way the speed system works in this game, extra speed is more useful the more speed you already have, so speed buffs (both skills and on equipment) can mostly be ignored until the postgame. The weapon mastery passives that most classes get give a really minor bonus and shouldn't be overinvested in: two or three points is enough early on, until you can't think of anything else to spend your points on.

To get a bit more specific about classes:

Fighters should probably either work toward Valkyrie or Dark Lord; Samurai isn't terrible or anything, but it doesn't really do much that the other two classes can't do better. If you're going Paladin -> Valkyrie, she'll be more of a tank, so her important skills are Defender, Cover and Parry, although she can also do decent damage at least until the postgame. If you're going Berserker -> Dark Lord, you'll be more of a damage-dealer: Berserk is a great skill and you definitely want to focus on it, but you'll still be able to take a few hits and will even get a great passive that debuffs enemies who hit you. Either way, War Cry is an excellent buff for almost any party and definitely worth investing in early on.

Magic Users will turn out pretty well no matter what class you put them in, but some classes are better early in the game and others are better later on. If you made your MU into a Sorceress, she'll have a fairly straightforward role in dishing out tons of elemental damage: this is one class where you really want to prioritise upgrading her passive damage-boosting and TP regeneration skills rather than her active skills, since upgrading the actual spells increases not only their cost but their casting time. Enchantress has some buffs that can be very useful in the right party, although early on the Sorceress and Priestess will probably be easier to use effectively. Priestess is the healing class and does a fine job at it, although you can more or less get by with just the basic MU heal if you have a reasonably defensive party build, at least for a while. As far as third-tier classes go, Witch continues to do more of the stuff that Sorceress did and do it even better: she's great throughout the second half of the main game, although she falls off a little in the postgame as high elemental resistances become more common and the casting times on her spells become more of an issue. Magical Princess is a class built entirely around an incredibly powerful self-buff, Magical Change, and isn't really usable until you have enough skill points to max it out, which will probably be around the endgame/postgame, making her a good class change choice for a Witch at level 50. Sage is a utility/healing class with limited damage-dealing capability, while Bishop is an even better healer who can also do a bit more damage than Sage but lacks her utility skills. Interesting note about the Nurse and Circle Nurse skills: once you raise them to the point where they can cure debuffs, they can even cure the negative side effects of certain buffs like Berserk or Defender while keeping the positive effects active.

Maids are a pure support class: don't expect them to do damage. They're important, though, and only become more so as the game goes on. Most of the time your Maid will be cooking for your other party members to restore their TP. Maid Mastery and Generous Heart are both amazing skills: in fact, almost all the passive skills in the Maid class tree are really good and worth investing in at least as heavily as you invest in active skills, if not more. Bard focuses on buffs while Dancer focuses on debuffs: both are useful, but Dancer has a bit of an edge since its skills don't have casting times the way Bard's do and generally scale up better as the game goes on. Remember, speed buffs and debuffs are for the postgame, so just focus on plain old attack/defense or HP/TP regeneration at first. For third-tier classes, Diva is an upgraded Bard and Etoile is an upgraded Dancer, and the comments I made about those classes still apply, but they do get some new options to play with. Etoile in particular has some very interesting skills: Debilitating Salsa does fixed damage every turn that completely ignores defense, so it's great against very tough enemies, and Emaciating Hopak is more of a postgame thing since that's when you start to see lots of enemies with high elemental resistances. Mistress is an attempt to make the Maid into a damage-dealer, and it doesn't work very well, partly because your Maid is usually better off using her turns on recovery skills or buffs/debuffs and partly because its skills and weapon options just aren't particularly good; steer clear of it.

Spielers are a bit gimmicky and have a slow start: you might be better off taking a second Fighter or Magic User in their place, at least until you hit level 30. Danger Shoot is their main damage-dealing skill against single targets, but it's both expensive and unreliable, plus the base damage of each hit is on the low side so it needs support from offensive buffs to break through enemies' defense. The Doll Master/Soul Summoner branch of their skill tree was sort of underwhelming to me: it has some uses but feels like a waste of the Spieler's potential. Trickster gets a self-buff similar to Berserk that will help with your Spieler's damage-dealing issues, and Checkmate is a bit more reliable than Danger Shoot although its potential damage under ideal conditions isn't quite as good. Looking at the two third-tier classes you can get to from Trickster, Papillon specialises in multi-target damage while Joker is all about taking down big single targets like bosses. For most of the game, your Papillon should be using a sword rather than a fan: even taking Fan Mastery into account, a sword will usually do more damage. Rose Queen is their only damaging skill that doesn't require a fan, but that's fine, because Rose Queen is the only damaging skill they need: it's excellent non-elemental AoE damage for a very reasonable TP cost. Joker is a bit of a late bloomer: to use them to their full potential, you need to max out their Trump Card self-buff and have the TP to actually use the drat thing. Once you're able to do so, you'll basically alternate between using Trump Card and Danger Shoot in every boss fight. Focus your Joker's equipment choices on maximising her DEF stat, because a maxed Trump Card converts every point of DEF into 1.5 points of ATK. She also appreciates having an Enchantress in the party, since the Enchantress's elemental buffs apply to Danger Shoot and can let her take advantage of enemy weaknesses. Put a point or two in Mad Zapper for dealing with random encounters: it's not an amazing skill but it's the Joker's only reliable multi-target damage option.

Scouts are a pretty good mix of damage and utility, depending on what class you upgrade them to. Archer is a solid damage-dealer with some status ailment skills that are good in the early to midgame before enemy elemental resistances make it too hard to inflict status. Freeze is a particularly good ailment for shutting down enemies that have dangerous physical skills, and can even work on early bosses. Assassin is more heavily ailment-focused than Archer, with some good passives, especially Adaptation: since elemental resistances also determine your ailment resistances, an across-the-board increase to them is great, and becomes even better when combined with equipment that carries elemental resistance boosts. For third-tier classes, Sniper can dish out some amazing single-target damage with Guided Shot, although it eventually has speed issues in the postgame since bows are slow weapons to begin with and many of its skills have speed penalties on top of that. Treasure Hunter is a utility class that can actually function as your primary in-battle healer if you keep enough healing items in your inventory; it's not so good at doing damage for most of the game, although it eventually becomes okay at it, but it can at least use Weak Stab to try and interrupt enemy casters with critical hits. I didn't use the Kunoichi class much, but it seemed a little unimpressive compared to the other two options.

The best 57 in hockey.
Thuryl again covered most of the details but I'd argue Soul Summoners are a tiny bit better early if you don't need Rose Queen to clear random encounters faster. Mercidarion does a decent amount of damage as it's basically a baby version of danger shoot without as much hilariously random stuff. Also Tricksters/Jokers should use a 1h/shield since jokers get a lot more benefit out of the defense and speed over using a slow two hander and berserk is more dangerous without plate armor.

I'd also recommend you go sniper early for your scout, treasure hunters are alright and all but they don't really hit their stride until later when spell healing caps out and starts looking really crappy compared to items. Weak stab however is invaluable throughout the game and it kind of sucks to lose out on it. Kunoichi just plain suck and really have no good niche. Snipers blow them out of the water damage wise in all ways barring extreme piercing resistance, scrolls cap at 700 damage maximum and their skill tree is just a bloated mess. I don't know what they were thinking with them, if they could use dagger skills with projectiles it'd go a long way to making them decent but alas.

Also there's a gamefaqs guide with skills and stuff so you don't have to deal with google translate's butchery as much. Not everything but unless you're an insane completionist it's probably most of what you'll need.

What exactly is the story of VD?

Oh boy, prepare for :words:

quote:

Bhikkhuni's story overview

Background:

Year 20XX or whatever - the Armed/Arms Virus emerges in girls in their teens-20s and allows them to become weaponized (Liberator/Ecsta). Due to the nature of this, 5 man made islands were create in order to treat the carriers/infected.

I don't know the story to Siren so I won't bother with that.

Mermaid - their plan was to prove they could be reintegrated into society while still having the virus.
Bhikkuni - their play is to treat/remove the virus from the infected.

Rinka & Ranka get sent to the island care of their parents. Mana and Momo kind of end up there.

Here they live on the island, go to school etc., and school is part of the treatment program.

The six main girls in Bhikkuni are special as they have a mutation in their virus (VR Virus) allowing them to use both the Liberator/Ecsta abilities (considering they point out this is rare in Mermaid), and are set up in a special class and program for treatment.

They meet the Chairwoman (Rijichou-sensei) who is in charge of administration of the island and Echigoya, the shopkeeper.

The other teachers on the island are the 4 god robots - Kongou, Gouzanze, Daiitoku, Gundari (equivalent of the 4 guardian beasts and part of the Godai Myouou, more on this later).

Anyway... in order to find a cure, the premise is the girls have to fight each (for research purposes) and there are school wide battle royales that occur, and people get ranked etc.

Viola is an elite member of the VR Class and lives in the suitably 'elite' section of the island.
Koharu is more or less the 'head' of the 5th Generation class (valedictorian, class pres, whatever)
Manpukumaru seems to be hanging around just because she likes eating.

To advance in the treatment program, the girls have to defeat the 4 gods in combat in order to move up and go to the next class/level.

Each girl though has her own goals/desires which of course clash with the others.

Rinka - wants to get treated and go home
Ranka - wants to be wherever Rinka is and protect her
Momo - wants to find her lost memories
Mana - wants a place to belong - in turn she becomes the vice-head of the 5th gen, and wants Koharu's spot.
Viola - wants to be #1 (by extension find a way to beat Koharu or have Koharu acknowledge her)
Manpuku - wants tasty food (this is used constantly)
Koharu - wants to protect the island

There's a few episodes of constant head butting between Momo, Mana, Ranka etc., and once it gets to the point there's a bit of a power struggle among the girls (trying to go to the higher classes etc.) more battle royales, the Kagurazaka sisters fighting each other etc. etc. Rinka ends up facing up against Gouzanze and stuff gets weird.

Upon smashing the robot cores, naked girls start flying out of them, much to the confusion of everyone. Rinka at this point thinks there's something horribly wrong with the island and wants to find out what's going on. Numerous attempts are made to shut her up/keep her from digging.

Eventually it splits to 2 general factions and the split will vary depending on if you go to Order or Chaos.

Rinka's faction wants to find out the truth, and eventually find a way to leave the island.
The Island faction is everyone else who wants to shut RInka up and maintain status quo.

Momo ends up coming around and apologizes and joins Rinka.
Manpuku will join whoever feeds her.
Mana is on her power trip so she opposes Rinka.
Koharu and Viola are observing this, but are generally against Rinka.
Ranka doesn't want her sister to get hurt, but at the same time is caught in between both groups.

A few more fights against the 4 gods (and more naked girls getting knocked out of cores) makes everyone generally leery/suspicious as to what is going on.

At best, they should stop digging is what the Chairwoman tells them but Rinka selfishly continues to be nosy.

They end up threatening Echigoya (who has been around for the 5th generations) and question her about the dark secret of Bhikkuni.

There is an outside organization (game refers to it as AAA) that exists that wants to use the infected for their own twisted means (weapons, mercenaries etc.) and the barrier formed by the 4 gods in Bhikkuni prevents them from invading and taking the girls. More on this later again.

Rinka tries to ask around about the previous 4 generations of graduates - this fails miserably as most of the residents of the island that aren't students are actually robots. More suspicious.

After threatening Echigoya some more (and then being disciplined by Gundari) Rinka will want off the island.

The following gets implied/explained
1 - The virus cannot be treated in this particular situation.
2 - The last graduating generations never left the island at all.
3 - Each of the 4 gods was the 'head' student of the previous class.
4 - They were going to turn either Mana or Koharu into the 5th god Kirin.
5 - the reason there were people in the robots is they activate their Ecsta form and are effectively the 'parts' of the 4 gods, and are put into hibernation within the body of the robots. The people are all the last 4 classes of graduates.
6 - the reason for this is so that it protects the 'time' of the Valkyries so that they can wait out the AAA, as well as hopefully fair along enough in the future, they would have found a cure for the virus.
7 - Gundari is the Chairwoman. The video screen version is only that, she no longer has a human/physical body. Echigoya was the chairwoman's partner during the 1st generation class, but ended up getting severely hurt at some point. You notice this in the OP movie of the game that even her 'human' form is computerized/digitized when she trips.

Then we split routes:

Chaos Route - Ranka doesn't want to help her sister and goes against her in seeking out the truth. This leads to a slugfest between them (and even though Rinka technically loses, she plays the stubborn 'I can still fight' card and is pretty much an invincible zombie in the novel scene. They finally end up beating Gundari at the end and say that they will protect the island together from the outside forces.

Order Route:

Mana ends up betraying the island faction through the power of friendship (it starts getting hokey again) and they go through more of a prevent the 4 gods from sealing the island/creating Kirin situation.

Each of the 4 gods controls part of the island barrier, so defeating them will destroy the barrier and will allow for the inhabitants to leave.

In this situation even the normal students want out because they have no desire to get turned into robot parts and put into robo-hibernation.

But even after beating the 4 gods, they have to destroy/stop the power core which would be used to create the 5th god.

After beating Koharu & Viola, Rinka shows her resolve that no matter what might happen (in this case the AAA invading) that the Valkyries should be the ones that decide their own future and they won't become weapons of mass destruction etc. and they are the ones in control of their destinies.

Koharu makes contact with 2 of the islands (Mermaid & Siren) to establish alliances against the AAA in case of an impending invasion - notably this is kind of plot-hole-ish since Mermaid ends on a totally different note...

EDIT: Some more stuff

1 - Gundari aka Chairwoman/Principal was the 'first' class head. I don't think they ever mentioned which strain of the virus she had, but effectively since she was the leader, and because the barrier didn't exist during their generation, leading them to get attacked by AAA, decided that the only way to protect the other Valkyries was to become 'god'. So she's like the brain and the other Valkyries kind of sleep/rest in her cores. The other three were the other class heads with the rest of the class being the body cores (more or less).

2 - Mermaid had the observers or whatever to determine if the girls were able to re-integrate in society (despite making their weird German-ish military castle society). The robot thing was pretty much - 'this is the only solution we can come up with until we find a cure for arms virus (eventually)'.

3 - Rinka becomes unusable during that particular arc after the first Gouzanze fight (IIRC) and she overexerts herself because she had to make up for the partner's weakness (can't remember who she teamed up with) and took her partner's damage as well - she ends up getting hospitalized and put under observation for a few chapters - also an excuse for the Bhikkuni governing body to run tests on her since she's one of the hybrids.

Hrm. From everything they've released so far (i.e. zero gameplay) it looks like it'll be another VN-heavy RPG (and FuRyu doesn't have a great track record for gameplay, right?), just with an edgy storyline.

The crafting system has two issues:

Every weapon is "created" with a specific level:damage curve. If you care about having the best of all, read up guides on how to do the math to determine whether the weapon you got is on that curve or not. My recommendation: entirely ignore this feature.

The materials to upgrade weapons to the higher half of the levels are incredibly rare and time-consuming to farm for, in the vein of "kill [this type of low level boss], by shooting it in [this place on its body], and have a 20% chance of dropping the right item, also you need 5 of this item". This translates into you having to farm tier 3 missions for a few hours (with 2 minutes per run) just to get past a certain level point in upgrading a weapon, which means you're best served by using the level 1-3 upgrades to figure out what kind of weapon type you like, and then focusing on upgrading only that. Don't play weapon pokemon in Freedom Wars.

Also, less of an issue, but: Don't mix element points on weapons, since every weapon can only have a total of 100 "natural" element points. Honestly, i'm not even sure i've ever seen element points do anything.

The shotgun is very overpowered, but also a little boring to play, in my opinion.
