Has it been said yet if this film is a straight adaptation set in Japan or if the whole thing's being reworked/transported to the US, ala The Seven Samurai to The Magnificent Seven? (Or, for an example in the opposite direction, the recent Japanese version of Unforgiven by Ken Watanabe) If the film is actually still set entirely in Japan with Japanese characters everywhere then sure, it's hella dumb and awkward but if it's just a US-based version of a Japanese story with cyborgs running around Future Chicago or whatever, is it really such a big deal?

It's being set in Japan, but apparently National Public Safety Agency sounds lame to American ears, so they're changing it to that Section 9 is a corporate espionage group inside Hanka Robotics, the world's leader in cybernetic prosthesis. So, they've gone from barely-secret spy hunters on the level of James Bond to being Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution.
