Wraithblade/William Jones - ER: 21% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

"If you were to tell me that," William's voice shifted a bit as he appeared behind the robot that had tried to do the same to him "I'd tell you that you are echoing my own sentiments."

"However,"

William closed his eyes, trusting his hearing and above all, his impeccable intuition. And indeed, with a deft movement he caught a silent blade in the flat of Tchernobog, twisted and parried. Another enemy down.

"High Command has repeatedly stated that they want an authority at hand to step in should they find my methods too... direct."

William listened. The tiniest click in the dark gave the third away. Only one remained.

"So. The matter is yours to decide. Whether you value my autonomy, or wish to keep a tighter leash of authority."

A subtle gravity pulse from an Evil Eye filled the space, the contours revealing the last. And then there were none.

"I prefer autonomy," William's thoughts strayed to Alice and her pointlessly bubbly voice "...but I do admit, I am used to a certain level of involvement."

A slight sound is heard as William sheathed Tchernobog, the lights turning back on.

"But I would prefer it stay on the level of marking targets, and not veer into micromanagement."

"Well, no, to be perfectly honest. All of my aliases are contingent on my ability to be the person I'm pretending to be. If I can no longer do that, I lose connection to my personas - and everyone linked to my personas. If I'm not 'Nick Lavine' anymore, I certainly wouldn't be able to talk to Scott either." Stranger ran an unconscious hand over his hair to smooth out a suddenly-ruffled hairdo. "Even if I could explain my situation - which I wouldn't be able to, because Scott is an idiot - he certainly couldn't take the betrayal... I'd literally have to start out from nothing. Even things like hobbies are so tied to my disguises that I... don't know what I'd do for fun. I'd probably just have to make it up as I went along!"

Back Alley leaned against the side of his car, "Jared is my partner in my 'day' job. The whole thing at the air force base caused me to miss out on work, so he was probably trying to reach me for that." Back Alley sighed, "And, yeah, this whole double life thing does put some stress on me, to be honest. I'm worried people are starting to think I'm wrapped up in something, no offense, shady, instead of just being flaky."

"For a nightclub owner, that would make a rather effective cover. So many of them are wrapped up in illicit dealings that one more would not stand out. But I do understand your preoccupations." The branch chief wryly observed, before falling silent. "Hmm."

It took him a moment to voice his next observation. "What are your thoughts on using a replicant? It would allow you to move about freely, without fear of having your colleague and family suspect the worst."

---

Blood Bath

"The Train Driver?" It was easy to spot the capitals with the way the branch chief pronounced those words. "There is nothing in my archives regarding anyone operating under that codename. Tell me what you know."

Stranger

"Perhaps what is needed is a peer, then. Someone who can relate to your situation," the moth suggested. "There is something I want you to see behind the door on your right, with the large keypad. The access code is ACHR0M4T1C1624357." He uttered each letter slowly, giving Stranger time to input them before moving on to the next. With a slight ping, the door slid open, revealing a blue steel room with a raised pedestal, upon which floated a large chrome orb. Three transparent glass and plastic panels protruded from the ground in front of it, in a semicircular fashion, and another, larger liquid crystal pane could be seen above it, folded up against the ceiling.

"Meet the test subject of Project Achromatic, Hassira. She is a purely virtual presence, an old experiment in information control which we have repurposed into a student of the human condition. She exists all over the Internet, under thousands of different guises, from promising college students who do not actually exist to multiple seemingly braindead chatterbots. For obvious reasons, her ability to interact with human beings face to face has been severely curtailed, up to this point. I am sure she will be very curious and most understanding of your plight if you speak with her, as no on else is better prepared to understand what it is like to be a thousand people and yet never yourself. Should you wish to speak with her, simply tap the central panel."

---

Wraithblade

"And what about greater responsibility?" The mantis asked, impassively. "Larger groups of agents can often be difficult to control - and sometimes, policy clashes occur. You are quite aware of what the preferred UGN solutions are, for each individual situation. Would you be willing to take on the task of watchman for this force?"

---

Stricken

"If it is a name you are comfortable with then no, merely to give you a proper name to go with it. If you would rather prefer a new name, then Stricken can be swept under the rug, like so many other inconvenient things." The cockroach's bitterness was palpable. "But now is not the time to worry about such things. Your name is what matters. No one should be without a name. A name is a thought, a meaning given to us by which we are known. It speaks of who we are and what we can be. It is language, and concept, and everything." The roach's shell peeled open, and a holographic display activated, displaying a list of names. "This list includes names from the world over, each with its own, particular meaning. If any of these catch your eye, tap them to see what that meaning is. Take as much time to select a name for yourself as you need. After all, life begins when we receive our names."

"No, The Train Driver is not a person." Bohn corrected. His mind now racing to piece all the clues together. "It's the name of a theater play written and directed by Athol Fugard... A play that me and my family watched the night before their disappearance!" He paused for moment, unsure how to connect all these... 'Train Clues' together, and then, the answers hits him, like a train. He continues his theory, "It's a play based on a true story about a train driver who spent weeks searching for the identities of a mother and child he unintentionally killed with his train. After a fruitless journey through shanty towns, he encounters an old gravedigger named Simon who helps the desperate man unburden his conscience." Bohn turns the tick over to face Ex Machina straight at the camera, and mutter softly, "It all makes sense now."

He waits for the respond of Ex Machina - the smartest, and most brilliant man in the world to connects it all together and arrive at the same awestruck realization that Bohn has pieced together.

Stricken didn't really understand her superiors strange request. Couldn't. The Branch Chief must mean this as some sort of test then, she thought, but it didn't really seem in line with her duties as a field agent. Perhaps it was all part of some greater scheme?
He was the worlds smartest man after all.

He suspected that Belcry probably knew far better than he about password strength, but it added to the growing tally of instances of Neumanns valuing security and complexity over ease of use. Stranger would just set it to some arbitrary long string that he could remember easily and enter within seconds with Hanuman speed. But first... he took in the room, took in the offer the Branch Chief was making. This opened the world to him - interaction without needing to falsify a face and a personality, endless variation in conversation and experience. He didn't say anything, though - he just nodded. Okay, here we go. Lets get that ball rolling again. I'm positioning everyone in their respective missions. Keeping the actual times everything is happening a little vague. It's all on the same day but everything else is a bit loose.

A Nice Party

In an hour the Kamishiro Group's celebration will begin. The place is already crawling with staff and security. The party is in the Western style to suit the many overseas guests and the fact that the chairman's brother is getting engaged to a Canadian. Security is tight with black-suited Kamishiro security forces everywhere. The whole hotel has been closed down for the event. After much discussion at UGN headquarters it was determined that alerting the Kamishiro group to the operation was a no-go...they'd likely be understandably unwilling to serve as the bait in a sting operation targeting a possible Overed terrorist.

You've had a few hours to get ready for this operation. The UGN could get you invites to the event under false identities or possibly help you infiltrate hotel staff or something similar. Kamishiro security is too tight to slip someone into a security team with no advance notice (of course, that doesn't necessarily stop Stranger from pulling a gank-and-replace on some poor security guard). Feel free to dictate your preparations retroactively.

A Suspicious Factory

The Sapphire chemical plant is located in a small industrial sector just outside of City N. Traffic around here is minimal except for a few clusters of shady-looking individuals hanging around in shadowy areas...likely look-outs for the Kou-Ou society. Most of the other buildings in the area are officially unused warehouses or entire yards full of nothing but stacked shipping containers. Who knows how many small-scale drug or smuggling operations are going on in the area..but Sapphire is something else. Since the chemical is a refined form of adrenaline extracted from Overeds or Gjaum it must be handled very carefully, requiring a full chemical plant in order to stabilize it and refine it into its final form: a fine mist sprayed into the mucus membranes (or directly into the eyes if you want to get hit fast).

UGN intelligence is fairly sure that this factory is source of Kou-Ou's Sapphire supply...and that it's guarded by the two Overeds you're after. The security around the plant is obviously fairly heavy...none of the guards you can see look very professional (no uniforms, visible tattoos) but they're definitely alert and probably carrying concealed weapons.

Feel free to decide on your approach here.

The Pacific Ocean

Fortunately, Tempest is quite willing to help out because one thing the UGN doesn't have easy access to at a moment's notice is a stealth plane. The USS Ronald Reagan and her battleship escort were in the middle of maneuvers East of the Philippines when they went silent. Traveling that far on your own would be possible but would require a crippling amount of Renegade power...and the carrier' group's sensors would probably have picked you up miles ago.

"Okay guys," The pilot looks back at the passenger area. "We're almost there, in about 10 minutes we'll be in visual range with the carrier group. Which means they'll be able to see us if we don't change our approach. It's your call on how we move in. We'll do whatever it takes but if we just fly in they're going to shoot us out of the sky...I'm good but no one's good enough to outmaneuver an entire carrier group's worth of anti-aircraft guns for more than a few minutes. I could take us up high but there's no cloud cover so we'd have to gain a lot of altitude if we don't want them to spot us."

"What's the call?"

The carrier group is about 20 miles away, just over the horizon.

Being deployed far out at sea; Stricken had simply traded one box for another. But even she had to admit that her current quarters where a bit cramped, tucked as she was very neatly into a drop pod that was nothing more than a torpedo with a fancy title and a higher than average yield armament, ie: herself.

Transporting her any other way would have been impossible. They couldn't risk her flying there on her own for risk of being spotted. Couldn't very well have her aboard the plane proper, where even an errant sneeze might have caused a flare of power that would have sent the floor out from under them in mid-air.
That the tempest engineer they had put in charge of her part of the operation was a giant James Bond Nerd might also have had something to do with it.

As far as she understood things, she was Plan B. To be deployed in all secrecy as insurance, should attempts at diplomacy fail. The Americans would not abide an aircraft carrier falling into enemy hands, and as much as they would like to have it back, if such a thing was deemed impossible, well.
They needed someone on site that could potentially deal with it.

The spyplane would fly in low, drop its cargo and retreat. From there, the torpedo would get her in range of the carrier group. The hope was that she could make it the rest of the way on her own, with a small enough profile to avoid any ship-based means of detection.

---

Going to attempt to approach stealthily via the use of a cool gadget that tempest loaned me for this mission + superhuman endurance to survive fast travel at depth. I figure if they could loan us a spyplane then some high-tech scuba gear isn't too much to ask for? But i'll keep the rolls seperate should you disagree!

William stood, staring at the plant ahead of him. Far enough to not be spotted, but close enough to spy the premises with some minor gravitational lensing from his Evil Eyes. For now he merely observed, taking in the patrol routes, minor twitches and other telltale signs of the guards, the placement of equipment and other paraphernalia, as well as other seemingly innocuous details. But in the mind of a Neumann, those things might give an idea as to where his targets were located. And thus were he should head to end them.

Perfect Intuition [d6]=9

Rolling Perfect Intuition and getting a 9 (+4 from 2x Excellence: assuming William has enough time here to Charge Up safely without problem) to try and divine the location of my two targets from seemingly unrelated details (The guards might make subconscious movements when looking at the direction they know those two to be at equipment strewn about might give a clue about their guard detail etc. The kind of things an ULTRA PERCEPTIVE BRAIN might piece together.)

Stranger walked through the front door of the Kamashiro celebration, linked arm in arm with Back Alley's playboy illusion, smiling radiantly at the opulence through the eyes of "Kelly". Kelly was a blonde bombshell with a short bob and a tastefully-too-short emerald dress - matched her eyes. She expertly played the part of someone who had never been to such a ritzy party playing the part of someone who went to these sorts of parties all the time. Of course, Stranger had actually never been to such a place, so the acting wasn't all that tough!

Before the celebration actually began in earnest, she took some time to explore the hall, looking for anything out of the ordinary. As cover, she meandered over towards a nearby ice sculpture, idly running her hand over an exquisitely carved swan's neck. It broke off under the slight pressure.

poo poo, thought Stranger.
"poo poo", said Kelly.

She put the swan's head down on the table and sped back to Back Alley's side, hoping that any untoward attention she had attracted was of the mundane sort rather than anything more dangerous.

[Back Alley] - ER:25% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

A few hours before the party...

Back Alley stood in front of his bathroom mirror, getting his face just right. While changing faces was routine for Stranger, it was a bit more challenging for Back Alley. He had to painstakingly craft an illusion over his face that was convincing from all angles and didn't look funny if he did something like blink or open his mouth. Fortunately, this mission had some leeway in terms of alternate identities and disguises, so Back Alley took the quick and dirty route.

Instead of changing his whole face, Back Alley had decided to only alter a few details. He was going to go as a silver fox type older man, believably rich without Back Alley's muscular frame looking too out of place. He made a few details on his face look a little different, added some wrinkles and changed the color of his hair and eyes. He walked out of the bathroom to show off his handiwork to a waiting Stranger, "How's this look?"

- - -

Mr. Brandtforth had made quite the entrance, pulling up to the party in an expensive imported sports car and in the company of a beautiful woman that was at least half his age. The fact that they were wearing matching emerald green finery was just icing on the cake. (Back Alley was pleased that Stranger went along with this; he didn't have to recolor his tuxedo!) He immediately decided to head over the hors d'oeuvres table to sample some high class snacks. As he enjoyed a bit of calamari, Back Alley sniffed the air carefully.

The Fundraiser was believed to be a Solaris, and Solaris tended to smell a little funny. Some smelled TOO good, far better than any cologne or perfume. Others smelled almost normal, the chemical stench underneath their skin going unnoticed by normal people. And a select few (usually Gjaum) just had the stench of a paper mill or some other industrial location.

As Back Alley sniffed, the Renegade virus made his nose more and more sensitive. Bloodhounds had nothing on an Angel Halo.

Rolling a syndrome boosted [d10] Angel Halo = 5 to find the Fundraiser.

There were too many smells here; Back Alley was finding it hard to sort through them all. He was interrupted by 'Kelly' rejoining him. He leaned toward her and spoke in a loud whisper, "Kelly, my dear, touching the ice sculptures is rather gauche, don't you think?"

A Nice Party

Kelly
Nothing wrong with a 7. This is one of those situations where there's no real OF, the roll just serves as a good gauge of how things go

Fortunately the faux-pas with the swan draws minimal notice and those that did see reacted only with amusement. A security guard near the table does his best to stifle a laugh...he clearly is quite taken with "Kelly" and does a very bad job of trying to hide the fact that he's staring.

Things are still very much in the "mingling" phase of the party. You've been to events like this before and the rich and powerful can be surprisingly casual when they're at events with only their peers (plus any "arm-candy") and those payed very well for their discretion.

Prior to the swan incident you took a quick wander around. The Kamishiro Group seems to have bought out every room on the lower levels of the hotel as the halls are completely empty except for staff, security and the occasional wandering party-goer like yourself. The upper levels are likely also reserved for party guests staying overnight...security guards are stationed at the stairs and elevators, no doubt they would require anyone passing to provide their room key or some other identification.

Back Alley
Rolling vs. Pheromone Manipulation [d10]=8, This is actually a Hazard, inflicting 1 Stress.

As you lean over to speak to Kelly the smell hits you...and nearly brings you to your knees. It's not a foul odor and you're fairly sure that you're the only one who can detect it, but it is overwhelming. You actually have to "turn down" your nose in order to keep it from overwhelming you and it still leaves you light-headed.

The odor is astoundingly complex...a mixture of human (and nonhuman) pheromones, subtle perfumes, serotonin and just a few light traces of hallucinogenic compounds. All subtle enough that the Kamishiro party isn't likely to turn into a bacchanalia but certainly capable of subtly loosening inhibitions and generally making people feel upbeat. Everyone is going to have quite a fun night.

It's not hard to tell where it's coming from either...the broken neck of the ice swan. Whatever chemical cocktail had been produced must have been mixed into the ice and frozen so it leaks out slowly over the course of the evening...perhaps as some kind of "primer" for more serious chemical manipulation. Looking around you see similar sculptures all over the room...including a few drinks luges that seems very popular.

I've got to switch computers, will post the rest in a bit.

A Suspicious Factory

Wraithblade
Subtle Signs [d10]=8. Success!

Scanning the area you quickly notice an irregularity in the movements of the guards at the factory. They don't walk around the place too much but when they do they usually must cross an open area between the parking lot and the main entrance to the facility (which is surrounded on all sides by a chainlink fence). When they cross the area they ever-so-slightly pick up the pace...the sort of movement someone might make if they knew they were passing through a dangerous area. The pavement has several patches that are noticeably lighter...fresh concrete...just about the right size to cover up bullet holes. All of this tells you that the area is likely under the watch of a sniper. Although several of the guards glance around nervously none seem to look in a particular direction...likely they aren't privy to the location.

Looking around yourself there aren't many areas in the immediate vicinity that are ideal sniper posts...but then again a skilled Overed gunman could potentially be firing from very far away. A couple of places seem likely, but impossible to confirm from your current position. One is the roof of a three story warehouse slightly down the road from the factory...the roof would be at the right angle to cover the area you saw and there's a small utility or maintenance shed on the roof that would make good cover (although there's no obvious signs like lights or a rifle barrel sticking out of the window). The other possibility is another dilapidated factory on the far side of the block...The silos and cooling towers have enough walkways and cover that a sniper could easily conceal themselves...the range would be longer but a skilled Overed could easily manage to shoot accurately from that distance.

Carrier Group 5

Stricken
The device itself makes total sense, it just wouldn't qualify as an External Trait since those have to be purchased. Still, 11 ain't bad. We'll assume that your propulsion gets you close as Blood Bath rains down and re-integrates. Let's see...the Carrier Group's radar is pretty good but we'll stick to Awakened level for this: Radar Scanning [d10]=5.

The ocean around you is quite beautiful...although the calm is somewhat spoiled by the constant stream of bubbles as your annihilation field disrupts the liquid. The carrier group looms above you on the surface. The fact that a barrage of torpedoes aren't streaking towards you indicates that they probably haven't noticed your approach. Even to you the sheer size of the aircraft carrier is a little awe-inspiring...seeing it "hanging" above is a little bit disturbing.

You manage to get within [Far] range of the battleships that are escorting the Ronald Reagan (Very Far from the carrier itself). You can get closer but that'll require another opposed roll to avoid detection.

Blood Bath
Since using Blood Fort requires Inhuman rank I'll go ahead and roll for the extra corruption: +10%

The pilot curves the aircraft into a wide, ascending spiral, staying far enough away to gain altitude until he lets you know that now is the time to jump. He gapes when you leap out of the plane unaided. He'd be even more shocked if he could see you live your code-name.

Fortunately the air-craft carrier isn't exactly a small target, although from that height you still splatter yourself pretty thoroughly across it so it takes a few minutes to re-assemble yourself in the ship's vents. Flowing around you search for a place to re-form and hopefully some sign of hostages or whoever captured this place...except there don't seem to be any hostages. peeping through pipes and vents you see Americans in Navy uniforms going about their business...you don't know much about ships but it seems like they know what they're doing. You gurgle down a narrow passage, causing a radar operator to look up briefly just as a small blip flashes on their screen and disappears.

Observing the crew you can eventually tell that they're acting odd...their movements are mechanical and sluggish...there's a room full of several of them just staring at a wall with slight smiles on their face...they also seem to have problems with doors. There's a constant litany of small *clunks* as you pass by sailors gently walking into doors before shaking their heads and opening them.

Right. A carrier group. If she had been anyone else, she probably would have wondered if she had taken on more than she could chew, but Stricken held no illusions about her own capabilities. She had seen, all too often, what she was capable off.

Honestly this wasn't too different from her more 'clandestine' missions. High priority target, huge risk, everything at stake. All that was needed was a decapitation strike and the UGN would usually sort out the rest, or that was at least what she was told.

So. All she needed to do was figure out exactly where the badguy was. She pulled up a live-satellite-feed on her Lifeline sensor HUD and watched.
In her minds eye she was going through previous assignments, thinking back to where her targets had hidden, what methods they had employed to elude her. It hadn't mattered in the end of course, but sometime she had had to be been rather indiscriminate in her search.

He had a hunch. And his hunches were rarely wrong. William turned to face the two buildings farther on. He made no effort to move towards either, but did activate his subvocal implants.

"Command. Identified two likely locations of Target Number One, thus dubbed Sector Alpha and Sector Beta in order of proximity."

"Scouting aid requested."

Whilst waiting for a response, William grabbed Tchernobog by the hilt, drew it slowly and carefully, and performed a sudden horizontal slash. Instead of going all the way through with the move however, William abruptly stopped mid-way and flickered in place for a bit. And then he was standing with Tchernbog sheathed just as he had a second ago as if he had not moved at all, the unfinished swing carrying off a temporal echo into the future to be tapped on at whim.

Blademaster [d10]+Tchernobog [d8]=12

It was time to take heads. What he did best.

William almost smiled at the prospect.

Using 'Slash Through Time' and rolling Blademaster +Tchernobog and getting a 12.

It's easy for Bohn to reach any room of the ship in his blood form, and he know just the thing to take advantage of this convenience.

Ex Machina's little insect bots. Bohn carried a bunch of them and one of it is going stright into the main frame computer of the ship for a stealthy take over by the boss. In the meantime, Bohn indirectly contributed to the mission's succeed via Ex Maxhina's bot sending many vital up-to-date information about the local sea and ship data to other field agent like Striken to take advantage. Bohn also released a bunch more of these insect bots to fly towards the other ships to take over them. It is a matter of time before we will regain control of all these ships.

[Stranger] - ER:59% (Condition: 5/5, Awakened)

Back Alley squeezed her arm with some urgency, a pre-arranged signal that Stranger was well prepared for. A complicated sequence of prescribed motions and sounds began to play even as she dulled the words truly passing between them. It put a real strain on what she could maintain at this level, but to outside observers the illusion was complete - Mr. Brandtforth and his young date having an animated, even loving conversation about some triviality. While the illusion was active, her compatriot revealed all he had determined about the nature of the Fundraiser's plan. 'Kelly' allowed herself the barest hint of a smile regarding the swan incident - part of her plan all along, obviously! The humor was tempered somewhat by the revelations. This was clearly planned in advance, with connections extending beyond simply showing up and taking people's money. The swan statues had to be created and deployed, after all - how many people were in on things? Ultimately, the Fundraiser himself was still the target - without him here to activate(?) the chemicals, people here would just have an especially good time. She nodded and they broke off their conversation, wandering amiably apart. Time to go on the offensive.

The Palace was one hell of a hotel, and security was top notch - but it was still just a hotel. The UGN had its fingers in many pies, including among many others construction and architectural industries. Stranger had exhaustively studied the floor plan prior to arrival, and even though the security room hadn't been explicitly marked on the plan, process of elimination had narrowed it down to a handful of locations. Having arrived and explored, the options were further narrowed - she thought she had it. She sashayed over to the stairs and ran over her plan of action in her head.
  • Find Security Room without attracting attention
  • Enter Security Room and locate 'James Watson' OR man matching physical description of Overed 'Fundraiser'
  • Find means of ingress into target's location prior to his arrival in the hall and thus prior to the unveiling of his plan
  • Restrain and escape with target
And... go.

[Back Alley] - ER:25% (Condition: 4/5 (stress), Awakened)

Back Alley's hand almost unconsciously moved to his tuxedo pocket, grasping at a an old sobriety token. This was bad. 'Mr. Brandtforth' cleared his throat and addressed 'Kelly', "I would like a smoke, care to join me outside?"

When they were a safe distance away from any prying ears, Back Alley whispered to Stranger, "I'm sorry but I can't stay in there. I, uh, don't know how much the boss has told you about me, but let's just say I used to have...problems. You probably shouldn't go in there either if you can avoid it. I get the feeling whatever's in those statues isn't the only thing on the menu."

When the two went their separate ways, Back Alley casually walked to the nearest bathroom to splash some cold water on his face, the illusory parts subtly rippling and distorting as the water passed through them. He hadn't inhaled enough to really lose control or get Cravings for more, but it was enough to scare the poo poo out of him. Good thing he caught it early. He took a few deep breaths and walked back outside.

'Mr. Brandtforth' casually strolled towards the hotel reception. Stranger was working on accessing the building's security cameras to more easily locate the Fundraiser, but it would help if he knew where to start looking. 'Mr. Brandtforth' sauntered up to the desk and flashed the receptionist on duty a prize winning smile. A subtle glint of light that was totally not put there by Angel Halo powers shined off his teeth.

"Excuse me, miss. I am supposed to meet a friend of mine in his room, but I think he gave me the wrong number. Can you help me find him? His name is James Watson."

Back Alley thought the emerald green tux was working for him. Sure, he looked fantastic in it, like he belonged at this fancy party. But there was something else going for it. Perhaps an air of harmless eccentricity?

Rolling [d8]Style with excellence = 14 to charm this receptionist into giving room info on the Fundraiser. When/if I get this info, I'll text it to Stranger's cell phone.

Let's see, security is going to be tight. Professional Security [d10]=7. But clearly not tight enough.

Fortunately the guards are well dressed enough that swapping faces a few times when out of sight can easily let you pass for security personnel or guests as needed. The real challenge is keeping an eye out for the discreet little security cameras tucked away unobtrusively in the corners and behind plastic bubbles so that no one actually catches you mid-morph.

Finding the security room isn't particularly challenging and fortunately with the hotel nearly emptied there's no danger of wandering guests stumbling upon you. However, actually gaining entrance could be more of a challenge. You've already slipped past the front desk and into the back hallways where the security center is located but the room is behind a card-locked security door. You could potentially tear it from the frame but that'd hardly be subtle...you could slurp out of your suit and squeeze under the doorjamb but no telling how many guards are actually in the room right now and someone might be able to sound an alarm before you could disable them all. The floorplans showed that the place had its own bathroom so no one inside is likely to wander out. Of course, you could always knock.

Basically it'll probably take another roll depending on how you want to approach things.

Back Alley

Lets see, The receptionist is Trained To Definitely Not Do This [d8]=7. Clearly not trained enough.

The receptionist is almost instantly flustered, distracted and helpful.

"Oh...um. Let me see." She rapidly types her keyboard. "Mr. Watson yes...yes I see him."

As she reads off the screen she ever so quietly subvocalizes what she's reading. It would be barely a whisper normally but your ears are keen enough to tune in. "Watson...Watson...Room 435."

In a tone of voice that's more audible she says "Yes, here is..." She then seems to catch herself, probably realizing how quickly she'd be fired if some well-dressed paparazzi manages to walk in on an important guest. "Well...uh. I'm sorry we actually can't give you any guest information. If you'd like I could call his room for you."

A Suspicious Factory

I'll assume you've got a UGN surveillance and support team in an unobtrusive van parked a few blocks away. If you're interested in more specific support let me know.

A voice crackles in your ear, the words overlap a few times as your timeline kinks itself. "Understood. With your permission we can send a camera drone to try and investigate one of the sites. Should we start with Alpha?"

Carrier Group 5

Blood Bath

I'd allow Team-ups outside of Clashes but they normally require coordination. That said I'd say in this case it's fine for Blood Bath to roll instead, basically him making a roll to remove Stricken's obstacle...except things go a bit wrong. ???=16 (doubled due to power level) vs Ex Machina's Machine Minions=9.

As you flow around you find your way to a place that looks like some kind of control room or bridge. A tendril of blood drops a spider-bot behind an important looking console. The little machine wobbles over to an cable and silently jabs a couple of probes into it. Presumably Ex Machina is quickly hacking the machine. Then there's an arc of electricity and the little robot's legs twitch spasmodically and a curl of smoke goes up from its casing.

There's a crackle as the ship's intercom comes on. The voice is rough, masculine and features a strong Russian Accent "Warning to all crew. An intrusion has been detected. Remember your mistress's instructions. Stay alert. Remember, your lives belong to her." The radio cuts off and all the crew look up and mumble something that sounds vaguely affirmative. Several salute too hard, knocking their head back a little.

The Small Details [d8]=6.

The satellite photos (and pictures from the rapidly retreating spy plane that delivered the two of you) show pretty clear details on the carrier group. There are three main things you notice.

First, satellite photos (both past and current) indicate that the Carrier Group is moving in perfect formation...not impressive formation or excellent formation...perfect. This is confirmed in an ominous way when you see the engines for all the boats cut off simultaneously.

Second, although the aircraft carrier had a complement of planes, none of them are currently visible. All intelligence indicates that they have not been launched and the storage bays on the carrier aren't big enough to hold them.

Third, the whole fleet is emitting a lot more radio activity than normal. It doesn't match any encryptions in the UGN's database but the whole carrier group is pumping out more waves than 10 radio towers right now. As far as you can tell the source is on the Aircraft Carrier itself, probably the aircraft control tower.

Brandtforth continued smiling and and nodded understandingly at the receptionist, "I understand, don't worry about calling him; I have his number. While I'm here, I would like to check in. My reservation should be under the name Brandtforth. First name Ingram."

Empyreal was only a few blocks away from the Palace, and was one of the places the hotel's staff liked to go to blow off steam. Lucas Whitfield might've known a couple of the hotel's employees. Lucas might've also pulled some strings and called in some favors to secure a room for a certain wealthy VIP from out of town.

Rolling [d6]Connections: Night Club Owner with Excellence = 7 to get my hands on a room key.

Regardless of how that went, Back Alley glanced at the receptionist's name tag before responding, "Thank you, Aoi, you've been very helpful." He smirked to himself as he walked away from the front desk, pulling out his cell phone. He punched in Stranger's cell phone number and sent a text consisting of, "room 435"

Well. That was odd. So something was up with the radio emissions then? The aircraft carrier was still too far away to board... but that destroyer over there was close enough.
She made her way to it with the help of her DPV, trying to follow the path of other sealife in the vicinity so as not to arouse suspicion.

Everything seemed oddly perfect, all the ships coming to a synchronized halt. Perhaps they where being controlled somehow?
Well, she knew from experience that even the most robust of conditioning could not stand up to the baser human instincts. Logic and reason always gave way to fear in the end.
Ditching her DPV she lay in wait hugging the side of the ship until a sailor came by on one of their immaculately scheduled patrols.

As soon the patrol arrived, she burst out from her hiding place, rising from a watery grave on a pillar of steam courtesy of her horrible aura.
The effect was somewhat ruined by her diving suit and the fact that she was but a single person; but hopefully the Navyman was a superstitious type,
or at least enough into Horror-Mangas that he recognized a water-banshee when he saw it.

I want to Seize Control of of a random sailors mind-control! And also board the closest ship I guess. But how does Flawless work? It says re-roll both trait-die, but do I still keep the highest result?
Also, in the case of explosions can you use Flawless on the dice you roll after an explosion happened?

Bohn immediately turn off the radio on his boat and smash the control to prevent anymore communication on this boat. Then he drain/leak himself out of the boat drainage/pipe/vent into the sea and flows toward the next ship to repeat the same act. Destroying each boat's communication will be crucial to the success of the mission.

A card-locked door wasn't unexpected, but it was certainly inconvenient! Stranger stood for a moment 'fumbling for his keys' in his pockets, then wandered off - keeping one eye on the door. If it opened, he could almost certainly just run in, but he doubted he'd be that lucky. No, he had something else in mind - the security room had an attached bathroom. Bathrooms meant fans, and fans meant vents. Stealthily, Stranger made his way into the closest vent and made his way over to the bathroom, hoping he hadn't missed any twists or turns and gotten lost. Once he arrived, it was a simple matter of waiting for someone to come in, whereupon he would leap on them and devour them knock them unconscious and take their security pass. But first, the waiting game.

I'd say that having a key certainly Sounds Fine [d4]=3.

Aoi smiles and nods deeply, clearly still a bit embarrassed by her initial reaction, "Of course," A few quick taps, "Yes sir, here you are." She reaches under the desk and produces a pair of key-cards. "Here you go. Make sure to keep them with you, the security for the party won't let anyone go upstairs unless they've got a card. And thank you for joining us at the Palace." She bows slightly, "please let us know if there's anything we can do to make your stay more pleasant."

Stranger
Lets see, Tight Vents [d8]=6.

*The camera zooms in on a small vent far up on the wall of a bathroom*

*The screws on the vent slowly begin to turn*

After a few minutes slithering through the ventilation system you find the bathroom access. Fortunately none of the security guards seem to need to use the facilities as you unscrew the vent, silently lower it to the ground and then squeeze your way through the small opening, followed by your dress. Shortly you are humaniod (and clothed) once more. The security bathroom is a small affair: a single toilet and sink. You can hear the sounds of muffled conversation through the door.

A Suspicious Factory

Your viewscreen blips silently as the drone's camera feed is routed to you. One of the techs in the van waves to the camera as they open the door and send the drone buzzing near-noiselessly into the night.

The low-light camera gives a grainy, but fairly clear, view of the area as the drone floats into the air and circles the block at a height that would make it near-invisible from the ground. It approaches the abandoned-looking factory. First it does a quick circle of the area, but the place is a maze of intersecting pipes, walkways and unidentified factory gribblies and its clear that nothing could be seen unless the drone moves closer-in.

The thing starts from the highest points in the factory, swooping in and out between the protruding bits and pieces. The thing swoops back and forth, scouring the place for any sign of life.

Your earpiece says, "We're not seeing anything on our end. Should we keep looking or check out site Alpha?"

Carrier Group 5

Stricken
Flawless lets you basically roll over again (using both dice) and take the highest result (which may be your original result in some cases). You can't use it just on the exploded dice, it's an all-or-nothing kind of thing. In this case, success is automatic but partial

You float out of the water in front of the sailor. By all rights he should probably scream for help, start shooting wildly or perhaps clutch his chest and die of fright.

...but instead he simply stares at you for several seconds, his mouth hanging open. He doesn't even look very surprised...just like he's trying to register what he's seeing. After an awkward ten seconds or so his eyes widen a bit and he jerks, makes a noise that sounds like "uuurruuuh?", slapping one hand at his side-arm, not drawing it...just swatting at it feebly. After a few attempts he manages to pull it out and then promptly drops it over the railing and into the ocean. He stares mournfully down at where it feel. He still has not sounded an alarm.

Whatever is perfectly coordinating the ships it is clear that it isn't because they're crewed by elite sailors.

Blood Bath

From my understanding, Blood Bath is on the main aircraft carrier. The radio system here is fairly robust and likely has a few backups, so it's probably going to be the toughest to handle. Were you wanting to start here or did you want to slip off into the water and head over to one of the smaller battleships and start wrecking radios on the smaller ships first?
