The referendum campaign is going to be remembered as one of the worst in history. It's just all so awful: what are the official campaigns even arguing FOR at this point? 1945: A lot of fascists really regretted their life choices. Vvvv AV was much more ignorable but that was part of the problem with it. namesake fucked around with this message at 20:25 on Jun 9, 2016 |

Is the EU referendum worse than the AV referendum? It feels like apart from "this baby wouldn't die if we weren't having this referendum" posters the AV vote was pretty easy to ignore on the whole.

They shouldn't be allowed to hold them imo.

Well ofc the AV ref came pre-scuppered because not even pro-electorial reform peeps wanted that system, so it was lacklustre from the start, the Dan Hodges posters and the adverts suggesting we were just too thick for a more complicated system and warning of the horrors of coalitions and a hung parliament (lol) were obnoxious but this has definitely been more of a car crash.

I think that they completely lack the capacity to manage exiting the EU but they'll at least ram through the things at the top of their agenda even if it leaves everything else a complete mess. That leaflet helped too. I think the main reason I didn't hate leave as much as remain is because all the communications I was getting were from remain, by blocking leave out I didn't get to see the sleazy game they were playing. Anyway. This referendum has been a nightmare and I hope at least cameron is ceremonially ripped to shreds at the end, but of course he'll manage to slide on through to the end of his term and hand the reigns over to Osborne or whoever.

Corbyn's come out today with a strongly relatable "Both sides of the In and Out debate are being utter dicks" argument. Also Corbyn sees the Conservative hard helmet photo op and raises them a bandana. Tom Watson in the second one cracks me up just looking at it. I don't get why, someone help explain.

Because he looks like Gibbs, the pirate. (I'm aware Gibbs never wore a bandana, and Tom Watson doesn't have mutton chops, but something about the photo makes it look like he does imo?)

Saint Isaias Boner posted:you're right. a discussion on the internet has changed my mind. the legends were true! The difference with the AV referendum is that it was out of nowhere for a lot of people, and the No side basically got to define what was being offered so they could completely undermine it. So as a news story (which is more about getting viewers than informing them) it wasn't that engaging, people had no appetite for it and the only dumbed down argument was the No side saying this is complicated and a disaster The EU referendum is like the finale of a massive TV show about plucky Britane being swamped with immigrants and bring controlled by the evil foreign overlords and TERROR and NHS, with both sides hamming it up with simplistic bollocks to get everyone excited. We've been hearing about this poo poo non-stop for years, it's been tied into everything and a big part of why ukip isn't just that funny Farage bloke popping up on TV now and again. The media's milking it for all it's worth, it's a well of opinionated what-both-sides-think vox pop garbage that never dries up. It's 'great' TV, basically Another difference is that suddenly it's totally all right to spend money on a referendum apparently
