Back in 2009, Korean company Tmax announced that they were on the verge of releasing a brand new proprietary OS that would have the usability of OSX, the security of Linux, and the compatibility of Windows. They called it "Tmax Window 9", which a few articles then misprinted as "Windows 9". Among the outlandish things they claimed: - Supporting Windows and Linux binaries - Supporting Windows drivers - Having their own office suite, web browser, and email program - Not using any Linux, Wine, ReactOS, OpenOffice, or other open source code quote:Public beta service will be possible in November 2009. Around the time of their press events one of their engineers posted in Korean, which got translated by someone on the ReactOS forums quote:Problem is windows binary driver compatiblity, before release 2~3 months, order to be The release never happened. Likely management finally figured out it was a big fraud. Tmax quietly scrubbed the project, tried to erase all references from the internet (largely succeeding, since almost nobody cared), and then sold off its operating system division to Samsung in 2010. Now it's back! "Korea IT News" posted:Tmax Waits 7 Years to Release Its Own OS

Why does the entire suite have to be launched in one go? It's suggesting inferior everything otherwise they could launch the dev tools, office suite and everything on Windows already.

Industries suffered from a decision by MS to terminate support of Windows XP in 2014 and this awakened the need for an independent OS." They're claiming even more omni-compatibility than before: quote:"Because TmaxOS supports the programs and systems of Google Android, Apple iOS and MS Windows, users can easily experience TmaxOS with greater affordability." And they're totally not just copying LibreOffice again either: quote:During the event, TmaxOS also released its patented digital publishing programs, which the company claims will compete with MS Office programs.

it's also completely normal to use the korean equivalent of a social security number to sign up for web sites. not just banks and government. MMOs and poo poo will ask you for your government ID# and all this is in a browser with activeX enabled. lol

huh, so at the time the TLS ciphers available outside the US were only 40-bit, and they made their own 128-bit cipher that at a glance doesn't seem to be completely broken? that seems like a relatively reasonable decision and mozilla added the SEED cipher to firefox so there were non-activex implementations of it, but disabled it in firefox 27 since nobody in south korea seemed to actually use it (and i bet good luck getting support from a bank or government page if something went wrong and you werent using the activex control, i assume)
