Look, I love the akira manga more than life itself, but despite its flaws as an adaptation the anime is one of the slickest things you could watch. The animation, music, lighting and colour alone make it a must see.

Ahem. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmbW6WXLeW4 I'm not knocking against Akria's animation, it's really drat good. But it's closing in on 30 years old, there have been movies released since then which have animation just as good if not better. (though how you quantify "better" animation through vastly different artstyles is up for debate)

I almost wonder if Reigen's advice to Mob is harmful on some level. While the core message of "don't use psychic powers to hurt other people and being a psychic doesn't make you better than others" is sound and good, Mob seems to have internalized the fact that he's a talentless, normal loser by deliberately repressing the most unique and wonderful thing about himself. Teru is obviously a negative example of the opposite end who should not be emulated, but I feel like if Mob embraced his psychic side more it would be much healthier and beneficial for him.

using his powers solely to exorcise evil ghosts is a pretty good life skill. mob will always have that career to fall back on if his other endeavors don't pan out.

Teru is obviously a negative example of the opposite end who should not be emulated, but I feel like if Mob embraced his psychic side more it would be much healthier and beneficial for him. It makes a lot of sense if Reigen gave Mob that speech after his incident with Ritsu and the high schoolers because he probably really needed some guidance during a dark time. And while Shigeo's suffering from a complex about his powers and emotions, his lack of self-conceit allows him to acknowledge and accept people for who they are rather than what they lack compared to him--that is, sheer overwhelming psychic power. Dimple even remarks that if Mob didn't have the personality he does now, the world might be a very different place. The inference being that Shigeo could be abusing his powers if he wanted to and the world is fortunate that he doesn't. By treating his powers like any other talent that anybody could have, and by seeking a way to better himself through ways that don't rely on his powers, he can relate to other people. People who don't have phenomenally dangerous gifts, who struggle to find their way out there in the world. Having Reigen as his mentor is one of the pivotal factors in Mob being a good person and as we see more of their relationship we understand how important that relationship is. If Saitama is fundamentally a teacher-figure, however unintentionally, Mob is very much a student. He's still growing up and trying to figure himself out, and even though he's got some issues he's developed a good head on his shoulders. And that's a good place to be at when you consider the alternatives.

I think he should have taught him the caveat "except to defend yourself", as we've the consequences of Mob succumbing to near death situations. Obviously Reigen doesn't know about ???%, but maybe it's something Mob will have to learn over time.

Yeah, the important thing is Mob's still growing up and still learning. He has an outsider's perspective on a lot of things, including stuff that would be common sense to us like"it's okay to use your powers to defend yourself." We get to watch him work this stuff out for himself and that's his story. I like Mob, the kid's alright.

the animation on this show remains well beyond anything I can remember seeing, just phenomenal looks like they're compressing and rearranging parts of this arc but it still holds together really well. can't wait for what comes next Buzzsaw Roomba fucked around with this message at 16:46 on Aug 22, 2016 |

there's a lot of poo poo that happens in this part of the manga, and they fit a lot of it into this one episode, so good job on that

Yeah, it's very trimmed, but they got all the good bits and did it great. I can't even remember any scenes that were explicitly cut.

Even with no battles, this part of the arc is extremely good. As I usually do I reread the chapters. So they did cut Mezato meeting the Psycho Helmet Cult and the other middle school banchous deciding to go after the Salt Mid urabanchou. Those can be put in later episodes so it's fine.

I really enjoy this being serial not-always-action, bordering on drama series, which you wouldn't expect all from the premise and ONE's past work. I also stopped reading the webcomic around here so now I'm gonna try and stay ahead and I'm real excited about that. Also the Reigen bit at the beginning is one of my favs e: I can vouch for Onani Master Kurosawa actually being really good, despite how awful it's premise is, def check it out if you want a drama story about broken teens trying to figure poo poo out Expect My Mom fucked around with this message at 20:53 on Aug 15, 2016 |
