Man I could never be a defense attorney, I know they're just doing their job but the way they describe this is pretty sick.

http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/trial-man-accused-boiled-water-attack-continues-41610112

quote:

"It wasn't hateful. It wasn't malicious. It was reckless," Walker said.

She said Blackwell often made inappropriate comments to various members of the household — asking about their sex lives and calling them derogatory names — and throwing water on them was just an extension of that reckless behavior, Walker said. He didn't intend to hurt the young men, he just wanted to get them up and get them to stop any disrespectful behavior, Walker said.

The prosecutor said his actions were well thought out. He took the time to select the biggest pot in the house, filled it with water and waited for it to boil. That gave him plenty of time to think about what he was doing and the consequences, Willis said.

After pouring water on them, Blackwell grabbed Tolbert as he jumped and screamed in pain and told him, "Get out of my house with all that gay," Tolbert testified.

Nearly killing someone for being gay "wasn't hateful" and "wasn't malicious," being gay is "disrespectful behavior."

EDIT: As expected but good to see nonetheless.

There was a bombing in downtown Salem on tuesday. I had no idea until I was reading international news outlets using terms like IED and terrorist cell.

The few US outlets that picked up the story called it vandalism and a possible hate crime.

Legally speaking, post boxes are considered to be federally recognized, and deliberately destroying one can be considered an act of terrorism. At least I think so. There was a situation where a friend of my family had his post box destroyed by his now ex-wife, and there was discussion about possible charges like that.

Nevermind, misunderstood what they blew up

This is about the only news I can find on it: http://www.fox25boston.com/news/salem-police-investigating-explosion-in-lgbt-newspaper-box/429162454

I decided to read this for a laugh, but...

I can't recall ever getting this angry at an article.

I'm usually more emotionally detached, but something about this has just left me completely seething.

I'm... Just so angry.

Is it the self-righteousness? Is it the author treating the words and beliefs of political philosophers like infallible gospel, seemingly refusing to consider the possibility that the historical figures he respects and admires were flawed people like everyone else and may have had questionable views?

Is it the fact that he's so blatantly disregarding any evidence against his ideas, just so he can declare there never were any in the first place?

Is it the shocking lack of empathy and understanding coming from a supposed ardent leftist?

Is it the fact that he'd so willingly ruin the lives of all of us here in this thread just because he can't accept that his role models weren't flawless beacons of humanity?

Or is it the fact that he's a fundamentalist zealot who treats Stalinism as if it was his religion?

I stopped reading at the end of part two, I can't get past this:

I had more than a few :dogbutton: moments reading through it, but I don't think I got truly angry at the guy. He just threw far too many "I am a loving idiot" (not a wordfilter) cards on the table too fast for me to even take him seriously and I just started playing rear end in a top hat bingo (and boy did he hit a lot of the classics. Freemason Jew media brainwashing the kids, holocaustdomor never happened, everything was an inside job).

I think this has come up a few times in the conspiracy crowd/crazy forwards threads, and is applicable to the tankie mode of thought. A lot of the western capitalist accounts of Stalin were heavily biased, which leads them down the 'academic coverups' rabbit hole until they're coming straight out of the starting gate with AIDS denial as if everyone is going to follow along with them rather than write them off as an idiot.

I also found a fair few inversions of alt-right tropes in there, like 'Jewish record producers are feminizing black men' as a direct parallel to 'Jewish record producers are Africanizing white kids'.

Also "attempts to distort research by defaming the researcher by the homosexual agenda" presented uncritically right next to "Kinsey hosed kids and so all his research should be ignored".

If you want a palate cleanser, this was basically my internal monolog for most of the first half of part one. But the anarchist position is petty-bourgeois now apparently.

Yeah, it's a bit flippant or whatever, but as a counter to "I will support literally any theory, no matter how discredited, if I can tie it into the evil gay threat to orthodox Marxism" it works, the author does not deserve a better response.

Speaking of contrarians, guess who else writes for that paper.
