It's very funny to see that there are still united posters who think they have a shot at 4th place.

Points after 13 games:

13/14: 22 (Moyes)
14/15: 22 (Van Gaal)
15/16: 27 (Van Gaal)
16/17: 20 (Mourinho)

Imagine what Moyes could've achieved if he'd been given the same resources as lvg and jose...

Winning the EL? I'm sure our complete inability to string together a run of wins won't be a problem in the knockout stages :allears:

He was allowed to spend, it's his own stupid fault that he had all summer to bring in the players he wanted and all he got was Marouane Fellaini

plus I don't think any good players wanted to play for him.

I agree with this, and I stand by that he wasnt that bad a manager he just had a really bad 2nd season.

I dont agree with this, I think he partly suffered as Woodward was a bit inept

I agree with this tho. Fabregas I know for a fact was being lined up to sign when Fergie announced he was leaving and they spent like 6 months including most of the summer trying to persuade him to play for Moyes

You don't need a 'run' of wins to win cup competitions, that's the point of them and why plenty of teams have won them while not doing great in the league.

And yet Van Gaal managed to get 4th in his first season, while Moyes failed to, as did 15/16 Van Gaal despite having more points at the same stage. It's almost as if points after 13 games is a loving meaningless stat and points after 38 are what count.
Having more points after 13 games makes it easier to have more after 38 without relying on other teams bottling it or your "luck" turning around.

Its not out of the question for arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs to have a collapse, but I wouldn't bet against united making GBS threads the bed either at this point.

Arsenal will invariably have a stretch of awful form, but I don't think it will be as bad as it has been in recent years. The squad has more depth than it has had in years, and Arsenal have been getting draws on days when they don't show up, rather than the customary humiliating defeat.

Didn't Atletico win the UEFA Cup once without a single win before the final? The away goal rule is a hell of a thing.

Nevermind. They got an away win against Galatasaray during the round of 32 that season. BOO.

I don't see why Man-U couldn't win the Europa League. It'd be just the kind of thing they'd do just to piss me off.

Well since we're drawing on tenuous links between prior manager's records, Mourinho is in big trouble and headed for the early sack, as that's exactly what happened the last time a United manager won the Community Shield against an unlikely participant and went on to get <39 points from 13 games.

Last year at this time a Mourinho had his team in 16th, sexually harassed the physio publicly, moaned through every presser and lost the dressing room.

Now he's up to 6th, only 11 points behind the team he ruined last year and only done half the mental stuff.

Don't worry, you can still make it into the top 4 if all the teams above you somehow go into full meltdown, and you somehow do the opposite.
