Primary assist to Jay Bouwmeester deciding the play had ended, secondary assist to Jori Lehtera's turnover and relaxed flyby.

JBo would be a fine 2nd pairing guy for the next year or two. Unfortunately he's stapled with Pietro on the Blues top pairing. In my dream would Vegas takes him in the expansion draft but I know that won't happen.

i like that the nhl is using wayne gretzky to try and promote hockey again, because the nhl's takeaway from the backlash to the crosby vs ovechkin thing was not to market their stars at all (instead of more than just two of them) in favor of marketing teams as a whole. so after taking using active players for marketing off the table, who can you send out there to promote hockey except for a guy who played 20 years ago.

What backlash?

I don't think Kronwall is anywhere near a good defenseman anymore but his breakout pass is basically his entire game outside of murdering people's brains.

But uh, yeah, there's no way he led the league in that stat.

Kronwall is like Rangers-era Messier where he just throws the puck 90 feet with reckless abandon and some how it just works.

I think that's where Brendan Smith got it from but he is really bad at it

Glad the Oilers much improved defense managed to blow two 2 goal leads against the Flyers, including giving up the GWG with less than 2 minutes to go. Maybe after missing the playoffs yet again the Oilers will actually improve their D (and backup goaltending), but with quotes like these I doubt it:

(Kris Russell) ranked second (among NHL defencemen) last year in passes leading to (offensive zone) entries. With his skating and effective shot blocking, there are numbers that go the other way from traditional Corsi.
This is passes that lead to an (offensive zone) entry. So he’s got to get the puck, make the play to get into a passing position, then he’s got to make the pass that leads to an offensive zone entry — which is a very significant part of the game when you want own the puck from zone to zone.
He was second in the league behind only Niklas Kronwall last year … ahead of players like Duncan Keith, Kris Letang, Cam Fowler, Ryan Suter, Mark Giordano, Niklas Hjalmarsson and Erik Karlsson.

I maintain that, if you could take Dion Phaneuf and Jay Bouwmeester from when the Flames had them and somehow combine their positives into one guy, you'd have the perfect NHL defenseman.

Not going to lie. If I had multi-million dollars I'd love to believe that I'd be a nice guy but it would probably turn me into someone that said "wait, this orange man is going to take less taxes? SOLD!"

But since it'll never happen I'll keep thinking I'm a progressive dude.

Don't forget the 5th goal was from Gudbranson. I don't understand.

Also I didn't watch the game - why was Markstrom in net for only 2 saves? At least that's what TSN is saying.

I figured the "with any interest/stake in American politics" was implied, but I bet the guys who go back to Canada/Europe in the summer don't complain when their salaries are taxed less. In fact, I bet since they don't actually have to live here permanently and know that eventually they'll move back home when their careers are over makes them more likely to want Republicans to win because it's not like it affects them in any tangible way except for their taxes.
