Uncle Sam should move to filling positions with a draft. You don't meet your contract obligations you get sent back to the minors. Don't know how we'd fill the GM roles though. I hate when analogies break down.

Oh god, I just looked up the "recent" episode I most remember, and it was five years ago. My life is becoming a blur.

The Rangers play lovely grindy hockey because by the time the playoffs roll around, all the other teams have watched the Rangers playing fast transition hockey all season long and go "gently caress that we need to shut that poo poo down" and so play conservatively especially through the neutral zone to try to prevent that transition game and then collapse around the front of their net to block shots (this is like the strategy of every single team in the NHL these days and it loving sucks) and you're left with a grindy game because the Rangers can't use their transition speed and have to rely on chip and chase and then try to up their defensive game to compensate as well and it's just not as fun. The Pitts series 2 years ago with a huge example of this where Pittsburgh was just playing very conservatively because they didn't have the roster that year to do anything but hope to limit chances against. e: The Tampa series 2 years ago was a weird mishmash of both teams playing balls out hockey and scoring tons of goals, and then both teams shutting it down and playing lovely low scoring games

If anything I think you run into problems when you say welp the other team is playing defensive so we gotta :grind:. You have to succeed with what got you there.

52 shots 99 shot attempts 1 goal Leafs have gotten stonewalled like that a few times this season. Dunno if it's just the kids getting used to nhl goaltending or just bad luck. At least it's been entertaining?

There's no point worrying about the Leafs now because in a couple of seasons Nylander-Matthews-Marner will be demolishing the league and nobody will have to talk about other lovely teams anymore.

Ginette Reno posted:The Pens didn't change their strategy at all in the playoffs last year and continued to play fast and aggressive. Yeah I was just responding to people bitching about the Rangers. The advantage the Pens had was being healthy and having multiple superstars on their team. Where the Rangers struggle is they don't have gamebreakers and rely on their depth and that's easier to shut down with conservative play than shutting down a couple of lines with superstars on them plus good depth But I do agree that the Rangers are better off continuing to try to force the play and try to get the other team on their heels. Hard and fast forechecking at the very least to start creating turnovers, etc. T-Bone posted:here's the full thing (this was the same shift): First one looks legal e: and the second one was on Shaw so good hit

oh and the people earlier saying "what was Laine thinking with that own goal!" seems pretty likely he was trying to clear a rebound that came out quickly into a high danger area but he just screwed it up and put it right back into the net rather than into the corner. I doubt he suddenly thought he was trying to score a goal

Man, the Bruins are hard to watch this year. Sure they're winning, and I like that, but it's not very exciting. Last year was more fun even though they lost more often, because they were at least scoring a lot. Last night's game was good though.
