https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Bud It's a classic boy and his dog film. It's no Bingo., but it still has a place in our hearts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OuyiEnIZpuA It's spawned 13 sequels over sixteen years. Thirteen! If you have triskaidekaphobia, fear not - that brings the total number of films up to 14 counting the original. Which is the best. The puppy-based spinoffs are trash tier, and none of the sequels so far have been able to measure up. The first sequel even literally killed Air Buddy with cancer. Maybe if they release a sequel about Golf, they can redeem the legacy? It'd have to live up to Caddyshack. Or even Dorf on Golf though, and I'm not sure anyone could beat Tim Conway's performance there. But that's a thread for another day. So, as stated before.Air Bud is a story about a boy and his dog. But it starts off before that. Our titular Canine Jordan starts off as a circus dog, who runs away from home. Discovered by Josh, the awkward teen nerd new to town, the two begin the adventure of a lifetime. Or approximately 90 minutes of the remaining run time. The golden retriever is very well trained, though the over reliance on CG becomes blatantly apparent. The film ultimately resolves in the heartwarming Disney ending you would expect. The sequels follow more or less the same pattern: Dog finds a sportsball, kid throws it, pupper astounds everyone with mad skills. Football, Soccer, Baseball, and Volleyball. Some of those sound more plausible than others. And it really set the tone for cookie-cutter Disney flicks for well over a decade. Even the spin-offs were uninspired. Originating in the third film, these side-stories follow the adventures of Bud's five pups. The first one, Air Buddies, being famed for killing more talent. Don Knotts, like Raul Julia with Street Fighter, must suffer this being the final film he worked on. Truly, a reason to stop making sequels if there ever were one. So, goons, which Air Bud is your favorite? How do you feel about this franchise killing beloved actors and innocent animals? Is there a sport you want to see in a sequel? Let's discuss!

Air Bud is a joke. He wins a few rec league sports trophies. Big deal. His loving puppies on the other hand go into outer space, and meet Santa Claus, and all other sorts of cool adventures.

Air Bud: Spikes Back is the only entry in the core series I would recommend to serious cinephiles. The diamond heist and kooky sheriff are good and, also, fun. Regarding the spinoffs: everyone owes it to themselves to turn down the lights, pop some corn, and really create a cinematic environment for a double feature of Super Buddies (2013, dir. Robert Vince) and Space Buddies (2009, dir. Robert Vince). Spooky Buddies is ok but Space Buddies has the better Diedrich Bader performance so definitely go with Space Buddies. Is this also the thread for budless Air Bud Entertainment films? Russell Madness (2015, dir. Robert Vince) teaches the characters AND the audience, "The strongest tag team is family," and I think that is a good lesson for people.

I think of all dog movies as existing in the same universe so the best Buddies movie is Mid-Road Gang, a movie about dogs crossing the street. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUWhT50LAt4
