Yeah the dungeon in 3 (Tartarus) kinda sucks and is boring. I like the P4 dungeons, they at least feel somewhat unique and have fairly ok designs.

Tartarus had the grace to let your party roam the floors in order to find staircases, so you didn't have to find the exit yourself - I greatly missed that in P4

FWIW I thought P3 had the weakest main plot between it, P4, and P5. Like the Tartarus itself against the moonlight is a cool and striking image but the actual story around climbing it is kind of whatever to me in retrospect.

Imo, It starts of slow but gets really good at the later parts of P3 P5 is just amazing from start to finish and the last day velvet room plottwist. had me completely surprised. It's something that really works well if you played the other persona games before 5

I recommend getting an OLED Vita, one of the originals. Make sure to get at least a 16gb card. Skip the first persona, give Persona 2: Innocent Sin a fair shake because it's got a great cast but it is much more like SMT than the Persona you're used to.

I strongly recommend playing P2 on an emulator with like, speed up and save states and the ability to shut it off and play something else.

P1 was really unsatisfying and I vaguely remember reading a synopsis and finding that there wasn't actually any reason to play it instead of replaying SMT1 or something. The encounter rate is really high in P2 as well but the characters are way more interesting. I'll probably actually finish P2 after I finish up with Suikoden, because that's the sort of thing my vita is for.

The only difference is that the OLED has a proprietary connector and requires a memory card even if only playing physical games.
