No, but people with dementia are prone to bouts of violence, wild outbursts, and otherwise unexplainable behavior. I'm not saying that Aaron Hernandez killed half a dozen people because he had a swiss cheese brain specifically, but the fact that he was so completely hosed helps to explain most of his actions.

Dementia combined with American "You play fooohbaww?! Can i suck your dick!?" culture might have done it Edit: To me football is the most boring sport possible so I don't care if there's suddenly less of it.

Minus playing football, Aaron Hernandez may have spent a life as a gang member murdering people, but at the same time, without the massive brain damage he suffered he might have very well been in more control of his faculties and better able to analyze the consequences of such actions.

Yeah the important takeaway isnt 'oh that explains Aaron Hernandez' but more 'lol a dude who only played 3 years of pro football had the brain of an Alzheimer's patient' which keeps pointing us to the logical conclusion that the damage is already done before that point. Taking thousands of impacts to the head from age 7 onwards can't be good, right?

My paternal grandma has dementia and is basically gone mentally. I don't think she's been able to form a coherent sentence for going on 4 years now. That's in combination with a thyroid condition that messed with her brain when she was younger.

I've said it before but I work in TBI research and there's no loving way I would ever let my kids play football, or box, or any other sport where a head injury is part of the game. Holy loving moses.

Holy loving moses. At least nowadays everyone has sufficient research to 100% understand what they're getting themselves into in regards to head injuries, from football to MMA. That's the only real reason I can still morally justify watching the stuff, but it still doesn't change the after-effects for those playing/fighting for years. The earlier players/fighters probably just thought "well hmm, this hurts a bit" without realizing the long-term effects, or having the effects suppressed by unethical sanctioning bodies or organizations (like the NFL ). But as to not dilute my brand, here is an introduction to the likely newest Alabama Senator. It involves buttsex. https://twitter.com/ericbradner/status/911000433107390464

No, they really don't. There's an absolutely astounding amount of information suppression going on from the NFL on down. Many states don't have return to learn or return to play laws (though that's getting better, thankfully) and concussion awareness training for teachers and coaches is spotty at best. A few weeks ago I literally told a high school kid collecting money for his team about CTE from football. He looked at me like I was from mars. This is one of the best school districts in the country. That poo poo is not getting to everyday people.

Here's TBI in a nutshell: Don't hit your loving head. The severity and frequency in which you hit your head will determine how hosed up you become. If you hit your head repeatedly, it will turn your brain into swiss cheese over time, even if the hits do not cause typical mTBI/concussion symptoms like alteration of consciousness, loss of consciousness, etc.

Short answer: probably not Longer answer: Since CTE is only diagnosable postmortem it's hard to say. There's plenty of evidence that points to neurocognitive deficits from repetitive head injuries for things that are visible, like memory impairment. The really scary and dangerous poo poo is that you can have slight alterations in your judgment and mood and it's really hard to tell unless it's drastic enough.
